Villa-Cov rivalry (4 Viewers)

Villa fan in peace :D

Just came on here to say that I hope we get you guys in either the FA Cup or the Carling Cup this season.

It's been what 10 years now since we played you (since we relegated you :p) and that's been too long.

I know a lot of Villa fans say that they don't care about Coventry but I reckon if we got to play you then it would be a big game/atmosphere, certainly at the Ricoh.

I would put the Cov derby above Wolves and maybe even on a par with West Brom tbh (since they tend to hate Wolves more) but not quite on the level of the Second City Derby against Blues.

I see that you start your season with Leicester at home followed by Blues away so that's a cracking couple of derbies for you lot to start your season.

But we all know that Villa is the big one for you guys...

Plus we would fill your stadium for you ;)

So let's hope we get lucky when it comes to the Cup draws so we can renew the Villa-Cov rivalry...

To be honest this is the draw I hope we get evety single season. Believe me if we played you we wouldn't the away fans to fill the stadium, for once. And that whole "we don't care about Coventry" line got boring about 30 years ago, not very believable after you've experienced the hate at these games anyway. I would wish you luck in the forthcoming season but honestly I hope you crash & burn and, as i know a few Villa fans, I'll enjoy watching you do so!

The fact the season is 38 games long makes it irrelevant. Nothing is ever won or lost on one game be it first game of the season or last.

I can't help but think this is a Cov fan disguising himself bigging up the rivalry, what with everyone in threads all over this board recently shooting down villa and leicester rivalries, the borin bastards

That would be Villa Park the biggest and best stadium in the Midlands.

And no need for the "thick brummie" comment.

Like I said, I come in peace.

You sound like a "bitter Coventrian" to me mate...

There's no doubt you have a 'decent' stadium for atmosphere ect, but on structure and facilities we have by far the best in the midlands, state of the art exhibition centre, casino, theatre, and other various restaurants cafes and coffee bars.
I've had a few tours and the player facilities conference parts are top class.
We have a much better stadium than any other newish stadiums in the whole of the mids, including stoke and leicester and is also just 3rd biggest behing derby at 33,200 to our 32,600.

We have one of the worst stadiums in the midlands, Leicester's is worse and Derby is on the same level. All the others are miles better, proper football stadiums not modern legoland style "arenas"

YEAH! It's not a proper stadium unless you can't see half the match thanks to a pillar, your knees are by your ears, you can't get a refreshment at half time and it takes 45 minutes to get out of before you walk an hour to your car! THAT is a proper stadium.

FFS the HR nostalgia has to stop. Look it's like when you remember the old cartoons you watched as a kid, how they are soooo much better than the shit kids watch today, how amazing they were. Then you find an old VHS copy on sale at Blockbuster, take it home, put it on and realise the crap you put up with because you didn't know any better.

The only difference is I can't take you back to HR to remember just how shit it was. How for 99% of games you could hear a pin drop the atmosphere was so bad. How we barely got crowds of 12k most games (IN THE PREM remember).

To reply to OP (if he is in fact real): Villa Park is a shit hole. I had the misfortune of attending a conference there, the second part of which took place at the Ricoh a couple of months later. People from all over the country attended and every single one I spoke to said how much better the facilities were in Coventry. The only thing it has going for it is capacity.

I hope we draw Villa in the cup too, I miss those games.

Highfield Road was much better than the ricoh and it always will be, purely because of the emotions involved, that's what footballs all about. You don't support man united just because they're better than Cov do you. Highfield Road was the Home of Coventry City, it is where I grew up watching football, it was my second home and can't be replaced. How can you be proud of a place like the ricoh? A place which is almost identical too nearly every modern ground in the country, a place that is named after a japenese printing company and which will change it's name every few years anyway? It's nearer where I live than Highfield Road but I'd rather travel there than walk through the fucking wastelands near Bedworth to get to the ricoh. Highfield Road was unique, it was in the hearts of thousands and it will always be Home.

Come on give Pride of the Midlands a break.

He came on with good intentions, and I agree I would like to meet Villa in the cup. At least it would mean a decent attendance.

They are currently the best team in the West Midlands - fact, but with their better payers leaving isnt that a sad indictment of football currently in the West Midlands.
