As things stand I can't see us paying for anyone. SISU want to sell. If they pay for anyone they will not get their money back for the purchase. If they sell anyone the club will be less atractive than they are now unless the money is spent on someone else. Loans/free transfers are the most we can hope for until everything is sorted.

I don't think this means jukes on his way, andy said he needs a additional striker due to the fact eastwood out for up to a month and platt out.
Leaving us with only inexperienced players jeffers roy and wilson...

Yes, we know what Andy said, but we haven't got any money!!

Only place money can be coming from is from Gunnar's compensation fee.

It is possible that SISU may buy Le Fondre - if they can get him for a cut price. Buy him for £750k - give him a book value of £1.5m and suddenly the company's assets have increased and therefore so has the value of the company. Its all smoke and mirrors and accounting - football is very secondary.

sorry jan have to disagree with that ............ the players are valued by the club at the cost of transfer and that cost is written down over the life of the contract. There is no mechanism or purpose to any such revaluation. Taking it further we dont even put a value on the young players coming through because there has been no transfer fee.

but am sure there is plenty of smoke and mirrors going on so totally agree with you on that

What utter bollox!!! If that's the case what's stopping them buying loads of L2 players for £50k and giving them a book value of £200k - £500k?!?!?!

Is this guy any good? Aside from his obvious goals tally. I don't watch lower league football, the Championship is bad enough.

In Italy they do this, it's called plusvalenza. And yes, it is sometimes manipulated :) I'm not sure how it works here, could be similar. Some body has to regulate values though, insurers?

Yes. But football is football, lots of money in England, clubs aren't run by saints. Well, we know that anyway don't we?

It is a possibility that this is the additional striker they are signing not the replacement

I'd love it to be, but I would think any additional striker being looked for to help through injuries would be a loan. Might just be me being cynical but, well, I think we've seen it all before.

I've taken a look on the Rotherham forum and they are not bothered in the slightest hes going, which i think says it all, sounds like another Eastwood.

Yeah but fans always say that, you only have to look on our forum.

You're not bothered that you are losing a 25 goal a season striker? Really lads? I bet they have tears in their eyes as they type.

I'm told (admittedly by a lad at work who's not told me his source) that we're actually set to announce Kevin Lisbie - a free after being released by Ipswich

Spot on mate. I studied sport and leisure management at Plymouth uni and we looked at football clubs in a case study. Did u know Ryan giggs, Paul scholes and the rest of the golden boys at united were valued at £0 as they were bought up though the club! Players are not worth anything till they are purchased or sold by a club (on the accounts sheet anyway!).

Similar too; if u by an antique for £50, and its worth a £1000. It's still only worth £50 until u sell it for a £1000.

So if you bought your house 25 years ago for 12k it is only worth 12k when your neighbours is worth £150,000? :thinking about:

fact is the players are valued in the accounts at cost of transfer less the amortisation of that cost over the life of the contract - they are not put in at some other value. For that reason Conor Thomas is actually valued in the clubs accounts at £0 because we never purchased him but we all know Liverpool had a potential deal to buy him at £1m

Thanks for the first part, insightful.

The second part makes little sense. If you have a valuable antique you get it valued by an expert and then insured for its current value. If you get it nicked you are going to be pretty miffed to only receive the £50 you paid for it from a car boot in 1976.

On the Rotherham forums they said

"I would be really sick if Alf went, but just about every club has been associated with an "Alf deal" So I would take it with a pinch of salt, unless you have made a substantial offer.
Yes I think he would make it, give him the service, he will do the rest."

&

"Thought you were a bit on the skint side? Alf's been off here, there and everywhere in the past year or so. Sheff Weds also after him on our doorstep at the moment if you believe all the chat.

50/50 if he'll make the step up two divisions in my eyes, all depends on the level/quality of service from the midfield and also his strike partner - he needs a good ball winner/hold up player to play alongside him."

I'd take that. Considering we have no money and the predicament we are in financially I don't think we can be the choosers.

Would his value of risen/distorted because I believe Liverpool paid a loan fee for him??
