This is not one of my better ideas but please bare with me, should we think about re-signing Marlon King?

Marlon is a free agent and at this level with the right service will be a fantastic player who will bag us the goals, amid the speculation that Leon is looking to leave Marlon would surely be a suitable replacement? I know that Marlon left us via all sorts of controversy and his reputation is one that doesn't fill me with confidence, however based on his ability would he not be a suitable addition?

I don't think all the money saved from NOPM would pay for that greedy fuckers wages.

Well he's being linked with Mansfield and I hardly doubt he is going to expect a huge wage from them (with all respect to Mansfield)

Why have Sheff Utd let him go? His scoring record at Sheffield was hardly great. I would suggest his knee injury suffered while at Brum has affected h greatly.

To be honest, with our current finances (or lack of) and FFP etc, Mansfield will be able to pay far more than we would, I doubt we would be able to compete with Coventry United at the moment in signing players the way things are

Fair point, I don't know if its a realistic option but it's an alternative.

I must admit, it crossed my mind before. Him and Leon are quite similar in their style of play. However, I would see it as yet another issue to split the fans. Also, he'll probably be in prison again soon.

Think marlins legs are gone was the word why sheff utd released him, I put in another posts about jake Cassidy, young lad at wolves. Was on loan at tranmere last season. Scored for fun before Xmas last season the reason for tranmere's play off push. Or Rhys Murphy at dag an red. Scoring goals this season an was a big prospect at arsenal as a lad.

Wasn't this discussed about a week ago. The answer was no then and no now.

I see where your coming from robbo but he's 33 his legs have gone surely there's better options about??

I think there are and personaly I would have Dagnall over Marlon, I would of liked Paddy Madden also but he joined Scunny..

It may not have had its own thread Robbo it may have been on one pre transfer window speculation. I think his legs have gone too.

I thought that he used us as the way back into football after getting out and then once he was back in went for better deals elsewhere.

I would not favour him coming back. I can't see how he could possibly fit in with SP's Fast moving play. I also have doubts about his contribution to the squad culture / development

i couldnt be happy with MK back after his mercenary attitude. I didnt blame him for going but i dont think we want to revisit that, clearly there is something not quite right and trouble waiting to happen. I wouldnt want a desruptive attitude on the team also as morale is pretty good.

We play in the third tier of football so how about raiding a club at the top of the Skrill ? I bet there's a diamond or two in there somewhere ? Young and ambitious sounds just like our squad !

this is probably one of the only options, that and north of the border...

There have been many players who started off at non league clubs but who went on to do well higher up.
They are a gamble obviously but sometimes gambles pay off,and as you say we haven't many options have we ?

I'm sorry, but there's no way I believe Mansfield can pay more wages than us! A lower half, League Two team couldn't afford the wages of some of the players we have on our books (Murphy, Moussa, Baker etc). I get what you're saying about FFP etc, but we're allowed to bring in players on no more than 3/4's of a previous players wages. I'm sure we've still got about 3 or 4 previous players wages to play about with.

Danny Maguire at Blyth Spartans is a great prospect.

Dean Astbury is also a great player at Evo-stick level.

I'd prefer the club to take a punt on 3 or 4 low level players than throw their cash away on past-it gobshites like Marlon King....

A mate of mine follows Forest Green Rovers they have a striker called Norwood who is highly rated, worth a chance ?
Maybe related to the Norwood who played for us ?

Three good calls Jimmy

Cheers.....I see a reasonable amount of level 6 & level 7 football being based in the north west....The beers cheap, the "crowds" of 300-400 are friendly, the pies are good & after watching City in many away games last year, I reckon the difference between L1/L2 players & the cream of the non-league outfits is minimal...

I've seen Astbury at a couple different clubs & has always made me wonder why he hasn't moved up....

...Maguire could currently score with his eyes closed this season....I think hes over the 30 mark already, although he does take pens too....

Who does Astbury play for ? Sounds useful and prolific. Norwood plays for England C,and is only 23 so got years ahead of him.Our defence is non league standard this season anyway so a player coming from a lower league would feel at home !
