Let's not forget that Norwich City let in seven goals at home, were relegated to the third tier, sacked the manager, got a manager in who believed in hungry players and playing it on the deck, had not a single player with premiership experience, had a manager who said keep it simple and work hard for each other, told the players never to give up, told the players that there was no difference between playing home or away and always to expect to win, told the players that the team was bigger than them and had no truck with wage demands via agents.

OK I'm clutching at straws but I'm sick of big name managers and big name players and having my hopes dashed..........

Andy Thorn only has nine letters. Not a big name manager so we should do well then.

All players previously signed by Norwich from the giants of football like Shrewsbury, Blackpool, Gillingham, Colchester, Millwall and the Spanish guy only joined on loan at the end of last season.

Baker, Bell and ROD have been there, not done that...

You have a point about Hussey, he could be star in teh coming years.

Houlihan was rated highly, as was Sterman, Whitbread, Jackson etc..Landsbury is regarded as a Arsenal 1st teamer in a year or two, so hardly worth comparing to our squad...

Team spirit etc will get you so far, but we just dont have the quality on the pitch..

last years team with king would be contenders for top 12 finish

without king the rest of team is pretty much the same(weaker in goal, better in midfield) it all depends on if ROD,eastwood, juke or loan can score goals for us, im not sure why everyone has us as certs for relegation, our fans i mean.

were not THAT much different from last year

Better in midfield ???????

Our Options Last Year - Carsley, Gunnar, Baker, Osbourne, Doyle, Clingan, Bell, McIndoe, McSheff, Deegan (have i missed anyone out ?)

Our Options This Year - Bell, Baker, Clingan, McSheff - These are the only ones who have EVER played a league game, let alone an entire season

We are nowhere near as strong in midfield as last year !!

carsley was injured most of season
doyle is bad...really bad
mcindoe-i didnt hate him but dont tell me you loved him all of a sudden!
gunnar-overated,1 good game in 10?

those 4 gone, deegan(didnt play last year),thomas and brigimana added on top of clingan, baker, bell and mcsheff...im more than happy with the midfield, they have good passing attributes now unlike anyhting with doyle in there

All our midfield players were here last season plus 2 untried and tested youngsters. How can that be better? Yes we may have got rid of the deadwood but those who are left were already here anyway.

Nope, didnt rate Mcindoe really, but if McSheff gets injured on sat, who plays there ?.

Carsley was a new signing and CAPTAIN..Doyle was an option at least...

Dont know why I am bitting at this, quite clearly we are not as strong as last year....

Our last manager wanted us to bypass the midfield with the long ball. Since AT has come in they have been able to play. They were much better than I expected. Give them a chance this season before saying they are crap.

getting rid of doyle was going to improve the midfield wether he brought in youngsters or not, were lucky we have 2 talents to come in wether they are tested or not they must be better than doyle,he simply couldnt pass which is essential for this formation

Did anyone catch the piece SKY did on us around 2 months into last season? It was in their League round-up, and they gave us about 10 minutes. We were about 4th at the time, and the piece centered around Lee Carsley, featuring interviews with him and Aidy.
The main gist was that Carsley had made the difference. He did all the mopping up at the back, often "dropping in" as a 3rd CB and breaking up play just in front of the back 4 in the "Makelele" position. He was a constant communicater and battling leader, and the pundits spoke about him getting another 10-20% out of our other players-most notably perhaps Ben Turner, who in interviews elsewhere spoke about what an inspiration and help Carsley was proving to be, both on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, we were also stronger in central midfield as Arons narrow role from the right gave us enough bodies in the middle to finally match teams playing 433/41212. The role also gave him more freedom to get forwards, resulting in his best ever goalscoring spell with the club by far.

Marlon King had barely kicked a ball for us at that stage. Take away the points we got with Carsley in the side when we were doing well, and the points won by Aron with those goals, and we would have been relegated last season. Never mind McIndoe as an experienced sub later on who contributed to good results under AT. Doyle came in from the cold and for a spell last season was one of our best players. He tackled ceaselessly, and whatever his actual footballing ability, he knew exactly what to do in certain situations, always gave his all, scored a cracking goal, was a former skipper and player of the year, and was vastly experienced.

Now, we have replaced ALL of those players with Thomas and Bigirimana-incredibly gifted, but utterly unproven and inexperienced. I'd say that makes us weaker in midfield. Take away Westy, Turner and King, and it makes us weaker everywhere else too.

but what do YOU think?

i cant say gunnar was that good last year, a few games here and there but nothing else

i liked what i saw of carsley but he was injured for so long thats its not a huge loss this year in terms of adapting
