Now. I despise Liverpool for two main reasons. One they are the most self proclaiming super fans (along with the Geordies) living on past glories. Two they contine to condone, support and pay cheats.
However I do like Gerrard in this deaper role and think this could be fundamental to England's success in Brazil, in this role.

Have a sneaky feeling that we may actually exceed expectations for the first time in an awful long time.
The lower key hype could work to our advantage.

Sorry, not even close to good enough. Not enough world class players. Put a white shirt on Rooney and he becomes Kevin Kyle.

We've got a lot of good young ones coming through:

Wilshere
Luke Shaw
Sturridge
Anuzaj (can't spell his name - despite i being a traditional English name!)
Andros Townsend (though 50/50 on him making it to very top)
Phil Jones

to name a few.

Although we will fail gloriously, we've got half a chance. I think the first game against Italy will be a decider re: progression.

Ox-Chamberlain
Lallana

Aswell, we've got some decent youngsters coming through.

Not Januzaj though, he chose to play for Kosovo last week.

England wont win anything in my life time. Have very little interest in them.

I dont like international weekends as it means CCFC aren't playing !

I usually look forward to the World Cup or Euros, but can't get excited at all. Hodgson probably already has the excuses for the pampered prima-donnas written up, "we had the toughest group", "it was all the traveling between grounds". I don't even know if its worth stopping up for, don't want a re-run of the Ashes bashing.

Whats not to like about those loveable rogues anyway? Are they not the cheeky chappies we see in documentaries like "the blackstuff", or "the liverbirds" or "bread"?

Will struggle to get out of the group, the usual crap about the heat will be used as an excuse again, would love to go though, been checking prices on flights too high , it's one not to be missed, looking at the venues of the next two finals Russia and Qatar don't excite me at all.

I would dump ALL the old guard for this World Cup from the squad this time and concentrate with the new players. Gone would be the Lampard's and Gerrard's and in come Baines, LLana, Rodriguez, Oxlade-C, Sterling, and co throughout the team. Play them they will be hungry and naïve enough to play their hearts out and prove something. We are too predictable with Gerrard and co in the side. It's South America where players will express themselves. Our new crop of players are doing that in the premier league. Go with it, change the way we are expected to play. Whatever happens can't be worse than Gerrard and co's hopes? But think what they will learn, have tasted the world cup and will be veterans for the next one! The Gerrard's and co will not be around for the next one and they have had enough chances in the past so why let them hold fort again? The FA and Hodgson have not got the balls to do it like the German's did. Now they have one of the best young sides.

very good point. I am recalling the majority of my life, as opposed to where we are now.

Not sure what is worse !

Being in the 3rd Division by miles.

Our near yearly relegation battles when in the top flight was fun. .....just never saw it that way at the time.

I have never seen that bit as fun.

I was born the year after we got promoted to the 1st division. I didn't know anything else. And like most of us I took it for granted even though we nearly got relegated several times.

You don't know what you've got til its gone.

If SBT existed back then it would be full of threads slagging off the team and saying how shit they all were. The reality was we had some fantastic players and mixed it with the very best for over a third of a century.

I lost count of the number of times we beat Liverpool and Chelsea in the 90s. And, as I worked out just to annoy my Spurs supporting mates, we actually beat them more than they beat us between 1985 and our relegation. I also remember doing the double over Man U in 88/89 and several wins against Arsenal in the late 80s and 90s.

Tomorrow we will play a Div 3 match in Bristol in front of 500 die hards. It makes me want to cry.

I love Liverpool! They have the most genuine fans in the Premiership. Not like the plastic Mancs! They don't live on "past glories" as someone said. Their fans simply love their club and support them wherever they go. They simply have a huge following - me included - and their fans have a genuine love for their club. I love CCFC because I was born in the city, but I still have this second team following. Is there a law against that? I'm sure someone will jump down my throat, but I really couldn't give a shit. I bet there are loads of others on here that have a "second team" but won't admit to it!

i dont have a 2nd team, not even England. Nothing, but nothing can get close to joy i used to experience when CCFC did well. All the more reason why it is gutting what is happening to us at the moment

Couldn't agree more. A very cultural city with two teams who they are passionate about. They seem very knowledgable about football in general too and I've itd beeb pleasantly surprised how much some of them I've spoken to know what's going on at Cov (even before this mess). I've noticed if I go to Manchester thereare so many different fans of clubs but Liverpool its red or blue. Its refreshing to see. I don't have a second team but I am an admirer of Liverpool. Been to Anfield also and tge walk alone entrance gave me goosebumps!
