I sat in the West Terrace for the final few years - but it wasn't the deafening atmosphere people are trying to make it out to be. Our supporters are the same now as they were then - armed with a small selection of unoriginal repetitive crap songs that nobody can be bothered with.

Nope nor me.

It was all about the day out, the ease to get to, the atmosphere in and around the ground. The football was often a side issue.

The Ricoh regardless of how full will never capture that for me.

The Ricoh is a cracking venue without a doubt and I reckon if it would have been built on the old site I would have been fine with it. Bu the key was the location, where football grounds should be. The other thing is that it stands to reason that your happy memories are nearly always of your youth and HR was where I spent mine. Ultimately the kids of today with have the same of the ricoh

There is no right or wrong and maybe we all suffer from looking back at it with rose tinted glasses but for me, personally, things like good seats, nice toilets etc. I don't really care about.

Do you know one of the little things I really miss? I miss the feeling of walking round the corner from Walsgrave Road into Swan Lane, where you could see the East Terrace up ahead with the big Cov badge on the side and the sealed off street full with people going up to the ground, the edge if you were in with loads of away supporters, the hair would raise on the back of my neck as we strode towards the ground in anticipation, THAT was the buzz for me. That is what I miss.

Jumping out of a taxi at the casino and walking through a car park into my seat just doesn't have the same effect!

walking up Swan Lane from the roundabout on a cold winters evening and seeing the floodlights for me. Also sitting in the pub at 2.30 and making a last ditch decision to walk up!

Some great pictures on here, need this thread to be a bit more active I think so apologies for the bump. Would be great to keep this as a kind of non-official photo history collection of Highfield Road, maybe someone has a pile of their own personal photo's of the place they could share? In the meantime I've stumbled across some more old pictures the place from various online sources.

This from 1926 view of Highfield Road, strange to see the Swan Lane end pretty much a bank of earth rather than the usual terracing

And just a couple more for now, some aerial views from 1970's and 80's. The crows nest always intrigued me, when I first attended a game on the old Swan Lane end in 1990 this was boarded off, really odd little wooden structure built right in the far corner. Anyone ever stood on there or have any stories to share? Looked totally unsafe to me.

there are some great pics here , my first game was against forrest in the late 80s , me and my dad were in the spion kop and kilkline missed a penalty infront of us , the game ended 2-2

I can see myself!! I was the steward on the upper tier of the West Stand (standing just by the floodlight stanchion in the distance!). I know it's me coz that was my regular post and I was a steward from 1990-93. Haven't changed much, have I? Maybe a bit greyer! :thinking about:

No but to me Highfield Road represents a time when I believed Football was a lot simpler and the game wasn't full of money grabbing owners, over exaggerated wages/transfer fee's, players were idols and I could locally go and watch MY Football Club in the one place I will always call home.
