'Series of hotels' to be built at Ricoh Arena (16 Viewers)

Again another valid point when you have the De Vere.

I would guess they want more hotels and it encourages more conference business. I went to an event in the middle of nowhere in New Jersey at a conference centre around the same size as the Ricoh, it was surrounded by hotels and they were all sold out. Maybe it's a chicken and egg situation, they need the hotels to get more business but the hotel chains want to see more business before they commit to building.

Actually you have a point. New Jersey and Holbrooks are very similar. Perhaps they are looking at a Dubai style of construction. What do you think?

Couldn't agree more and that's where the whole shit storm started, back to topic though I can't see it personally for many reasons.

Spot on.

I am not saying it will happen. I am not saying it won't happen. I don't have a clue. What I do know is that it could finally bring SISU to the table. How about a joint CCC/SISU investment? :thinking about:

I blame both sides, call me what you want.

Only one side left the Ricoh, though, didn't they?

And had they not, I'm sure the council wouldn't have to look at other options.

Yes, there's blame on all sides - especially Mutton, who's personality and view were a million miles from helpful - but SISU have left the Ricoh for reasons we all know can see.

As for bluff; well, some of the posters above put SISU's threat down to leave Coventry as bluff, and look at where we are now

Surely If you take the article at face value Its highlighting the drawback of not having sufficient rooms available to bid for certain events?
Question would then be who would use those rooms in the downtime around events and does that make them viable and worth the Initial Invetment.

They could go even further if they wanted a Dubai style construction. They have a spare bit of grass not needed that they could cover in sand. Then we could have women's volleyball

Was told a couple of weeks back ccc were looking at having a similar venue as the O2 arena in London, which interestingly is run by the American company AEG who SISU are on about getting involved in their new stadium plans. New hotels and a new railway station would be an obvious attraction and need to such a venture but if true where would that leave our football club ?. I wonder if our council have unearthed and spiked Sepalla's plans ?

The question is does the Conference business require more hotels? One could guess that's why CCC have come up with this idea, but like you said Chicken and Egg with regards to future events and better opportunities.

Problem is for how long have we heard that there will be a railway station at the Ricoh yet to this day it hasn't materialised, it's a lot like the new CCFC Stadium, I won't believe it will happen until the first brick is laid, I am skeptical.

I thought you would be happy with the plans. Now you could also demand that CCC gave SISU and their investors hotels as well as everything else.

Ooh, someone a bit tetchy about being reminded about all the homework he did about 'Average League One' rents having fallen hook, line and sinker for Fisher's ruse; when it was as much about rents as it was about roast potatoes or trousers for chickens...

A railway station not being built is not something you can blame a local authority for so easily.

Why didn't it get built? Is it still going to get built? What do National Rail think of the idea?

Wasn't it two pairs of eagles trousers for an albatross?

maybe the hotels will have staff football teams that the CCC fans can go support?

anyone but ccfc it seems in their book.

Do you know where Northampton is? Do you go?

Have you done any away games yet?

So who do you watch these days? Not even a staff football team

Great. A vague idea to build a hotel and all the usual gang are here for the council mutual masturbation society.

Must admit that crossed my mind

It is a another move in the game of brinkmanship

You are you no concrete plans for a stadium
We have our no concrete plans for a hotel.

However two points to consider

This is the first time the council themselves have said they will be behind the hotel project ( I believe)

SISU have been building a new stadium for 7 months now. So far I think we have seen a generic photo of what a stadium looks like.

Which project is more likely a hotel in a location that already had demand for it.

SISU spending ( borrowing 30-50 million)

Like you I think seeing is believing but I think that railway section is part of the Government led knuckle project to which millions is being pumped into, separate to the H2 project. So if that was to happen it puts the Ricoh area in prime position.

The council threw their weight by the £1bn 'Jerde' project - what's happened with that?

They followed up with the 'City South' project - what's happened to that?

You've got to remember that they've got people employed full time to dream up this drivel

Both sides wanted to buy out ACL's loan with the bank-then the Council opted to borrow an extra £7m and do it all themselves, seemingly without SISU's knowledge. You then have the rejection of a CVA which dished out another points deduction and no cash settlement for the council.

These two aspects of the council's business need explaining. I am not for a minute saying 'poor old SISU'-they are the ones who manipulated the administration process to their advantage and they are the ones who have caused more damage to the club, but the people at CCC have to be clear on the above two actions, especially the former.

They will need to hit the business conference market hard

Some valid points here.

Why did the council step in and finance £14M when Sisu could get the loan for half that.
What would it mean to CCC and SISU if SISU took over the loan ?
Would the deal also include getting ACL as a whole with all the leases ?. Always struggled on this.

Why would anyone need a series of hotels in the same place?

Bedrooms are needed for delegates, visitors, exhibitors and so one to make the arena a viable alternative to the NEC or similar venues the Devere hotel has nowhere near enough rooms the Ricoh must miss out on numerous avents due to lack of bedrooms.

Maybe the JR will reveal this?

This has only come to light 9 years after it opened and in the context of the stadium's main (but unneeded) tenant leaving?
