No Christie = Clean Sheet (3 Viewers)

I have been saying for a while that Christie is awful defensively and has cost us so many goals this season.

I was out all day yesterday and so wasn't able to follow the game or listen to it. Just checked the teamsheet though and noticed Christie didn't play.

Of course it was our first clean sheet since way back in November (what an awful statistic) and guess who didn't play that day either?!

When he missed 6 games through injury back in Oct/Nov, we kept 3 clean sheets and beat Walsall, Orient, drew at Wolves. Cyrus then came back in the team and we shipped 3 at Bradford and 5 at home to Tranmere.

With him in the team our record is W39% D26% and L35%. Without him it is W50% D38% L13%.

Much smaller sample of course without him in the team, and I'm not blaming it all on him, but with him looking like leaving in the summer I say bin him off and play Phillips or Willis in preparation for next season.

I think pressley said he changed the back four to keep it right. With Adams and Christie out we weren't as attacking but a bit tighter at the back.

With our full backs sitting back it did invite their full backs to get forward and their right back was whipping some decent balls in.

Cyruss Christie is our best player. In the next year or so when he moves on we will be lamenting yet another home grown starlet plying his trade up the divisions, like Arron Gunarsson who got plenty of stick on here, likewise Ben Turner. Also if it wasn't for Joe Murphy, another who gets stick on here we would have been well beaten yesterday.

Christie would be more suited if the other defenders were reliable on their own at the back.

Yesterday I was happy to see Jordan Willis get a game ahead of Cyrus, I do think Long term that Aaron Phillips must replace Cyrus Christie at RB, Aaron can go forward, he has pace (not exceptional like Cyrus admittedly), can tackle and defensively is very sound. I can't understand why Cyrus ever came back ahead of Aaron when Aaron through the spell earlier in the season was consistently one of the best players on the park.

Only seen the team play 9 times this season, 6 away and 3 on TV. Chrisitie against Shrewsbury away earlier in the season was magnificent was our main attacking outlet, Tranmere last week awful ineffective going forward and then defensively gave up tackling and tracking back and was subbed. Think his head may have been turned and is being chased by other clubs. Hope Blair returns as does provide more threat going forward and Jordan C does not convince me, never has.

Ah yes, Gunnarrson and Turner - the rock of Cardiff's successful first season in the Prem. Oh, hang on.

We have not had a striker for weeks, Christie was top scorer at the academy for 4 years I believe but was converted . As for to full back and you have to say successfully. But why in our hour of need wasn't he given a run up front as a forward, what was there to lose. I think he is really good going forward with the ball at his feet. As for knocking his defensive display remember he is the springboard of our right sided attacks bombing forward then getting back to defend. I think Steve Pressley's criticism of Christie especially after the Tranmere game last week was rubbish quite frankly.

I knew that would bring a predictable immature response but I think if you have a good look both are in the Premiership having helped lead Cardiff to promotion and have played plenty of games this season, would that have happened at Coventry ?

Will Christie go to a better club than Coventry in the summer? I trust this helps posters on this thread.

p.s I may add 3 good saves from murphy kept us in it else it would of been another loss and goals shipped. Christie out is irrelevant to this.

It was a mistake to play defensive at home.
Not one shot on goal and we were lucky not to concede.
So it was a plan that worked more by luck than judgement.

Are we happy playing this way and getting a 0-0 draw at home against a poor team at the bottom of Division 1?

Backs up my comments really. We didn't have 1 shot on target in 90 mins and Christie may have won us the game. Not saying either way but could be by luck more than judgement. Keep a clean sheet with the same back four against a good Walsall side. Not for me jeff.

I must first of all apologise for my apparent predictability, not to mention my immaturity. I just can't help feeling Cardiff are heading back to the C'ship - with a bunch of decent C'ship players. That includes Gunnar and Turner. They've hardly become world beaters since leaving us have they? From what I've witnessed Christie this season, he'll be no loss.

Reminds me of the bloke who once contacted Cwr and said Andrew whing would be worth £5 million and play for England.

Willis seems a lot more solid defensively than Christie, the annoying thing about Christie I think is his end product. He goes on runs down the wings, beats players and overlaps but then his final ball lets him down.

The right back they had yesterday put some dangerous crosses in. if Christie worked a bit more on his crossing I think he would be a much better player.

That ginger one Nick? He looked like a good player. Put some decent balls in to their shit Andy Carroll lookalike upfront!

Sol Cambell has stated that it was only Whing's gingerness that stopped the young man being England captain, so the cwr chap may have been on to something.

I disagree, having just lost 3 on the bounce shipping 8 goals in the process, our priority was to get a clean sheet and a result.

You'd have been moaning had we gone attacking and lost the game.

I'm not a christie hater, but he's not as good as he thinks he is, and agree with PVA. Don't think it's his fault personally, just that with our powderpuff midfield (out of possession) 2 attacking fullback can leave us exposed.

Pressley said he had been looking at the stats for the last few weeks in regards chances created/chances conceded in the fullback area and saw there was an issue there.

I'm far happier with a clean sheet and a point than I would have been getting beat yesterday.

In my opinion Christie is not our best player. He is very good at going forward but seems to concentrate on that too much and not on his defensive aspect which of course, plays a part wth teams wide men breaking down the line and whipping balls in, leaves us open.

Thats the problem we are not at Home really and the away teams just come to shut up shop and we do not know how to break them down, when we play away we do have some room to manouver and having your full back push up helps with the defending

I think you're being a bit harsh on Cyrus Christie, point in case was the Leyton Orient away game and others where he has looked like the only viable option of us creating a chance! Attacking full backs are a luxury and I honestly don't think he is as bad defensively you as you make out. Looking back at our goals conceded, I am willing to bet that in terms of "mistakes to goals conceded vs games played ratio" that Cyrus is nowhere near the level of Webster, J.Clarke and Seaborne.

Exciting talent that keeps improving. I really hope we keep hold of him. A full back that gets forward can be a godsend in this division.

Er, maybe the fact that we scored a load of goals with Wilson in the team and not as many without him?

What I'm saying is... Just because we kept a clean sheet without cyrus, doesn't mean we kept a clean sheet because he didn't play...

Christie has been great but recently and especially at Tranmere he looked uninterested / tired a rest may allow him to return full of drive. I think the tactic of 2 attacking full backs can work but need a decent holding midfield to provide cover when the full backs are so far forward. With Connor's form being poor also as well as having two centre half's that don't inspire confidence not sure which is the best way forward

Christie has been off form lately. He is so crap that there will be several clubs from higher divisions vying for his signature next season. Just like Bigi was crap, Turner was crap, Cork was crap and the player in the reserves was so much better. Willis is good, Phillips may be, but if you cant see the raw talent in Christie then you know little about football. The only player Robbins wanted from out squad was Christie. He had seen them all close up for half a season. I wonder why that was?
