All those teams you listed have been in the premiership at least once in the last 10, have all enjoyed a couple of promotions, have all had a championship play off finish.

What have we had?

Forest, huddlesfield, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff,hull, Swansea, qpr, Leeds, charlton, more teams that have averaged more than we have in league one...

We've had no success, but I still see this as indicative of our fan base size.

First season after relegation
2001/02 - 15,400 (can't find comparator data)
2002/02 - 14, 800, 11 teams with higher attendances

So we had just had recent success of 34-35 consecutive years in top flight and PL football, yet distinctly average attendances.

I don't think anyone was bigging themselves up, and by peers I think it was comparing our leage one fanbase (last season) with the likes of sheff Utd, leicester, Southampton, Norwich, etc all averaging 18k+ in league one compared to 10.8k. Yes lots of variables, not an exact science, etc, etc.

I haven't given up yet, we will be back, this is just blip in a 125+ year history.

While It may be viewed as just another excuse ,I don't think It was solely relegation that led to a 5K drop off as The SISU hate had kicked In by then.

Re your other post ,while Brighton Is probably more affluent than our city It Is worth highlighting that CCFC's ticket pricing was too low and reduced twice under SISU.

Yep, in demand from fans who complained that tickets were too expensive. I seem to remember a thread complaining about our league one prices last season even though they were the cheapest in the league.

It's hard to tell whether the drop off was solely to do with sisu or whether a large percentage of the drop off was due new stadium wearing off and it naturally returning to the previous HR levels.

Whose support is bigger is irrelevant under the current circumstances. What we do have, that successful teams have, is momentum, sadly for us it is solely in a downward spiral, seemingly never ending.

There is not one supporter of our club who would have imagined we would play our home games with crowds under 2000 and in Northampton, an absolute disgrace.

Just to add a little bit of science. According to this we were 15th most depressing team (out of all 4 leagues) to support back in 2007. I would have thought that this is the only league we have been steadily moving upwards in so we must be pushing top ten now....

No. Staying up is success in hindsight at the time it most certainly wasn't. You can't call a club avoiding relegation successful in a time when the game was exploding and young fans were all supporting whoever Sky told them to.

34 years in the top flight is only called a success by us. No one else would see it that way.

That's my point, our illusion of grandeur, and the fact our core fan base isn't as big as some like to think.

The argument put forward for some teams getting 7-10k more than us in league one is because they'd been in the PL in the last 10 years, yet on relegation from the PL our fanbase was pretty average 14.5-15.5k considering we'd just been in the PL and playing in the league above where we are now.
