Worst City side in 50 years? (3 Viewers)

Well I am only 35 and have supported the club since 1983 but if Jimmy Hill's 'Sky Blue Revolution' began in 1961/62 is it fair to say that this is the worst side we have had for 50 years? 50 YEARS?!

It certainly feels that way. Even under Peter Reid and Gary McAllister there was at least a tiny amount of optimism going into the start of each of their season's in charge.

This year there is nothing.

At least I will have two local league away games to get to next year (Yeovil and Bmth).

We are only TWO games into the season. TWO games! One of those was against the red hot favourites for this division and we weren't embarrassed and yet you are saying this is the worst City side for 50 years after just two games?

Talk about overreaction!

Do you not think we are possibly at our strongest right now? Once we get a couple of injuries we are in real trouble. We weren't embarassed at the weekend, but we didn't trouble their defence either. We all know that we should hold our own this season, but putting the ball in the back of the net is another matter all together.

FFS! Is it the squads fault? NO
Is it Andy Thorns fault? He said last night we need a couple of new faces, so No
Who holds the purse strings? SISU
Who makes decisions on budgets? SISU
Who told city fans 2months ago AT would have the same budget as Hoofroyd? SISU
Our problems are deeper than the team but they are the team we have, we need to back them and let it be known we are not happy with SISU.

Totally agree, you'll see that the posts above do not blame the squad or AT. SISU must go.

Agree with all that, but worst City side for 50 years?

I don't think this is the worst city side in the last 10 years nevermind 50. I remember going to the Oxford UTD friendly in 2003 and we didn't have a clue who any of our players were as they were all trialists. I think the difference this season is the strength of the league we are playing in and our perpetual failure in this division. We are now at the stage where we have very little faith in our owners and very little hope that the players we have currently will keep us afloat in what is a very difficult league.

Can't comment on last 50 years, being 21 an' all.

As for last night, sad to say I didn't go but a lad at work said most of the players were simply lazy - some going to take a throwin and literally not a bead of sweat on them. That is the players fault. No doubting the main blame lies with SISU and their negligable understanding of how to do well in football...

No. The general status and condition of the club just adds to that effect.

The problem is we are dead broke and the league becomes more affluent each year.

Well I have been following City for 50 years, not sure its the worst but getting there. We have one or two little gems, like the kids and Juxy, Clingan, but and lot of rubbish as well. Ask yourselves this, how players in this squad could play in the Premiership? We spend 34 years there, and if you excluded 1962 to 67, we all our promotions, give are take a few years your up to 40 years. So, looking at the squad since relegation, this has to be by far the weakest I can remember. We have no options what so ever on the bench, we have to put 3 17 year olds in the first team. The worst for 50 years, trying to think when we as club were in worst state, very sad times

Exactly my reasoning for my initial post.

My first match at Highfield Rd was 48 years ago, and yes, I DO believe this is the worst sqaud we have had in all that time. I DO NOT believe it is the fault of AT or the players (most of them anyway), but it is the fault of SISU. They came to our aid a few years ago and promised money to spend. Where is it? I was optomistic as always a few weeks ago, but even I am now feeling very saddend at our current situation. :(

definitely the worst team in the last 30 years, and we have had some bad teams, but in all previous teams we have had a star player, or a chance with goals. this team? im sorry but juke proved yet again last night he just can not shoot AT the goal, even from 3 foot away. O'Donavonavonavon the new star? your kidding! the fact is Bury are not a bad side .. it wasnt as cringeworthy as Wycombe thrashing us. because the team theat lost to wycombe at least were a decent team, enough to keep us in the prem. can anyone honestly say that with the standard of player we have that last nights result was not expected? no way.

And just like last night, most of us are getting the same feeling regards the chances of us staying up this year, although it may not be the team or AT fault, according to most of you, which i disagree ... these are championship and ex prem players, they should have no prob in this league... the fact is we can not see where the goals will come from, we cant see us surviving on a threadbare squad full of children playing first team footy, but most of all we cant see the team lasting out the whole season even if they were to reach a good satndard of play. Too young too inexperienced and too below par for this league ............. which by the way is now not a soft league. the standard is much higher now. we are going down and that is why i get so frustrated at the likes of Otis who only ever see the positive of everything. im sure if he lost his legs in a car crash he would say @no worries mate .. ill just grow another pair@ not the reality of the situation is it Otis. Unless the club make real changes right now,,, this week we are finsihed like sheff wed and utd... both bigger clubs than us and struggling
