How many votes did he receive? I doubt anyone involved ever expected him to win, I suspect it was more about engagement with the public than winning so the number of votes received in comparison to the other candidates (especially AL) is where you can judge failure or success.

235 votes for an independent I would suggest isn't a bad result.

When I lived in the New Bilton area of Rugby (right on the door step of Rugby Cements Plant) we had an independent stand on the single issue of stopping Rugby Cements attempts to get a licence to burn old car tyres in their kilns. This was a big story locally and there was lots of opposition in Rugby to it yet the independent only just made 3 figures in votes.

So I don't think it's a disaster. Rob is just going to have to be clever in how he uses this result against the council.

5th out of 6. Only beat the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition party.

Not sure whether This is good news or not. Have nothing against any sort of protest. But it does show that the protest vote isn't there. The Labo idea of getting the fans behind the SISU plan isn't working. It might have even got more votes for Lucas that are against it happening. But how much longer are SISU happy or prepared to attempt to get what they want?

Lucas got 15% of the vote. 85% did not elect the person who leads the council. Given that only a tiny percentage of the electorate can be bothered to vote for the leader what do you expect?

To be fair, she did get more votes than all the others put together. But it was always going to be that way in Holbrooks.

I agree, just like Sisu. Sisu move the club 35 miles from Coventry and only 15% of supporters now watch them. If this was a democracy, Sisu would be still in Coventry. You can't have it both ways!

235 Votes. Did he get his deposit back? Better than I expected ( maybe because he's a decent guy - apparently ). It got publicity, but does it help us move forward?

By my quick calculations, yes, he got his deposit back, but I doesn't look like a result that will cause a shift in council policy.

I think you're clutching at straws a bit there grendull. Yes the turn out was low, but it wasn't the lowest and besides. It's a reflection of politics in general not a reflection of AL. And when you look at the bigger picture nothing changed. Coventry still has the same balance of power as it did before.
Labour has 34 seats and Conservative have 11.

Where was the turnout lower out of interest - national average was 36%

And by that measure, Mr Patton got less than 2 per cent "of the vote".

Which I would say is about right, at least 95% dont care where the club plays or about the concrete block near the M6. It is not an issue if we stay in Northampton to the vast majority of the electorate, problem isn't it.

The turnout should have been higher if the voters thought that RobS movement had the right idea. I think it has shown that the candidate had his fans, but most people either don't agree with RobS tactic or think of the Ricoh as a side issue - not worth taking the trouble to vote. Unfortunately.

The point is that people of Holbrooks had the chance to cast their views in a vote. Whatever the turnout or amount of people registered to vote may be, everyone who was eligible to vote from the ward had the chance to register their vote, and to vote in this election.

The result shows there is not much support for Patton, who was backed by the Rob S campaign.

I do hope media outlets now take this on board when giving this group further air or reading time.

235 votes, more of a laughing stock than a stalking horse. Ann Lucas got more votes than all the votes cast for the other candidates added together.

i rather think that Rob Stevens has a long way to go if he is to become a political strategist!

It's a problem for Sisu to sort out. If they don't break ACL and they can't whip the public up into pushing the council to do a deal, what are they going to do?
Build Neverneverland stadium, or pick up the phone and negotiate a new deal, or sell up, or liquidate?

But you're right in the sense that it is a problem for fans who can't watch league football in Coventry for a few more years if Sisu continue trying to break ACL or get serious about building Neverneverland...

I was talking about the local elections. If you look at the other wards Holbrooks was not the lowest turnout and a good few were lower. So like I say, an indication of politics in general not of AL's approval. But you keep clutching.

When I asked Brian yesterday he said he'd be happy to get into three figures. To go from a standing start to this in just a few weeks is pretty good going in my book. Didn't finish last either which was next on the list :)

The main aim was to keep the cause in the media – a great success – and to move things forward with pressure on all sides to get this mess sorted.

We saw this as another way of keeping the ball rolling and we've got a good platform to build on with more support and a louder voice.

BTW, thanks to everyone here who has given feedback – both -ve & +ve – and 99.9% with respect and good humour and it is appreciated.

We put out a short press release last night which is here:

She got 15% of the eligable vote

That's certainly another way of looking at it. However, I'm not sure it's particularly useful for any sort of context unless you apply the same measure to the other candidates.

I think you've taking it the right way Rob. Like I said on my first post on this thread. That's a good result for an independent.

So what Now? The Public don't care. The council can sit tight. It is clearly only SISU that can change things. I think the JR will bring nothing and see it as an annoying distraction. I hope RobS reports back to SISU that he tried and failed to motivate people. My wish: SISU Tell ML to stop his snide remarks ( help no-one ), drop the JR ( their evidence has been shown to be irrelevant ) and announce their willingness to negotiate a way forward ( no preconditions and in good faith ).
I see no other way in the short term.

BTW, no deposit required in local elections. The thing that does cost is registering a party which is something we didn't have time to do (takes 20 working days) and there was some discussion as to whether we'd have got more 'casual votes' with Get Cov Back to the Ricoh on the ballot paper.

Personally, I was disappointed Mr Patton didn't turn up to the count.

I would have been interested to meet him face to face.

Which is what a lot of us have been saying for ages. Either a good deal is made for the Ricoh or it won't happen. They have to go with the majority. The majority have spoken again. All parties are against SISU getting their own way. Most people are not interested in our football club unless we win the FA Cup :(

Well he can hardly complain about the voters not being interested then. Time to ask SISU there opinion of the result. Will they now grab the bull by the horns and try and get things moving? This has again confirmed that the ball is in their court. The council is not under voter pressure.

Be interesting to see how the Council Evening Telegraph cover the story
