Anyway yes, credit to the club.

Ironically the football side seems quite competently run atm. Actually selling a player for a decent price, using as much of those proceeds as able to, to get some replacements... and some half decent replacements too it seems, on paper at least.

It's the same kind of strategy we usedto do fairly sanely in the days pre-Richardson. Of course the proof of the pudding is in the corner delivery, but the players seem of the right 'sort' too, for what we need.

Violent crime was more common place in the 50's and 60's - crimes against women were far more accepted.

The Krays and their like were treated as heroes. Today they'd be branded as the vile, disgusting thugs they were.

Women and kids were a lot safer in their manor. The least safe people were the other crooks. You might have had to pay protection money, but then you was safe.

It might not have been ideal, but it wasn't as bad as some like to make out.

Not read all the posts on the thread..but the actual fee is "Undisclosed" unless someone can confirm otherwise. A quick search reveals this £3m is from the Daily Mail (nuff said?)
Rumoured few's are often every number they can find all added together whereas I think subsequent actual fee can differ from the rumoured fee by about -40%.

So do not expect a sudden rush of cash...whatever fee has been agreed half or more is probably deferred until promoted to the PL &/or set number of appearances &/or appearing for England.

We might only currently have got £750k for him in the bank.

Did you know that there were thousands of child prostitutes in London in the respectable Victorian era? And what do think would happen to a girl who cried rape? What do you think would be the chances of prosecuting the perpetrator, even as recently as the 60's? Women and children are probably safer now than they have ever been.

The world has changed and not for the better no matter what comparisons you may draw up out of the past.

maybe the argument is not so much about morals but personal standards and respect for themselves and others? That is the biggest change I've seen.

We have acceptance of so much nowadays that it becomes the 'norm' as they say.
When I ran my nightclub in Bournemouth in the 80's if you had a tattoo you were barred from entering until you put a long sleeve shirt on and covered them up! tattoo's in fact were less prevalent back then.

Look at the City centres on a Saturday night. Clubbing was fun and a few drunks were dealt with easily but today we have under age girls so out of it, just lying in the street.

Fashion dress was a sense of pride and style. Today it can be beyond grunge with the waist line of your jeans done up around your ankle!

Yes self respect, respect for others seems non existent in so many. Degrading yourself is not anything to brag about. Their are no badges of honour in it but this society has become more desensitised from it all and is eroding fast.

Is there a moral compass somewhere? And if there is what is it? What's right and what's wrong?

Victorian era? Never studied that myself. But things have certainly changed since then.

So tell me how many innocent people came to harm with the Krays against what happened to other villains. I am not saying that they were perfect. Far from it. But to say it is safer now for the average person.....are we talking about the same time when most people didn't lock their doors?

If you mean the one about free's being sold on, you actually asked Nick I believe. I did chip in with one example and I will admit that after that the cupboard is a little bare. However, there is more to it than that... Moussa for example - How much would he have been worth if he had signed an extension? The better frees come because they are at a low point and are signed on a short contract, they rebuild their reputation and then look to move upwards. So we will rarely get the chance to sell a really good free, Clarke being the exception.

And then you have the stupid human rights where the person committing the crime can have more rights than the person who the crime is committed against. The law has become a joke.
