Baker Speaks On Losing Captaincy (10 Viewers)

From those I know close to the club, he does a lot of unheralded work with kids, schools etc - apparently a bit of a model pro. Shame he had one good game in 10 in the Championship and at times seemed incapable of crossing the ball without blazing it into the stand, even with nobody within 10 yards of him. His performance at the 0-4 at Southampton when we went down was unforgivably poor for a side that needed real leadership.

Weren't we relegated anyway, and Southampton needed a win to guarantee promotion? I'd say he's a fans favorite because he interacts with the fans, and does play for the badge IMO.

Would I like to see him go? Not in particular, but if his wages (8K?) payed for 4 decent players on 2k each coming in, then it's a no brainer really.

of course, a slim possibility. does it still warrant taking the captaincy from a loyal servant at the club to give to a new signing without knowing whether he is fantastic or shite. THAT'S my point.

Suppose it is an unkown quantity, whereas we know that Bake is shite.

I make a point of never arguing with fools, they always win on experience.

I assume you are a jimmy hill fan? Before my time as a manager but wasn't he ruthless and forced players to leave when they outlived their usefulness? George Hudson most notably?

It's funny how people say Wilson going to Bournemouth shows how far we have fallen.

As a young fan I was watching Yorath, Gillespie, Hutchison, Wallace etc. they were my heroes.

To some young fans Carl baker is probably a hero.

Christ, that's more indicative of how we have fallen.

Grendel Can I add Jim Holton, Bobby McDonald, Ray Graydon, Andy Blair, Mick Coop now that was a loyal player, Jim Blythe. Jimmy Holmes.

Baker says the right things and I am sure he is a nice bloke. He has moment of brilliance between the erratic and absent.

Personally, I don't mind him staying bUt wouldn't get too sentimental if he left.

Wrong, way before my time I'm afraid. As an aside you are all off topic here a little, all the lad did is thank the fans for their support, express his pride at being made captain, and say that he always tried his best for us, which to be fair I think he did. For someone reason everyone sees this as open season to slate him, and talk about players being forced to leave. Sad.

Well I was born in 1990, so haven't seen many "glory" years. I wouldn't class Baker as a hero. However he is very dedicated and gives his all. That surely means something.

He's scored 25 goals in 2 L1 seasons from Midfield, surely that has to be worth at least a token fee?

if we wanted him to stay and if he wasn't on wages much higher than our club wants to pay then sure. But I think we want him gone and so he'd have been offered out for nothing.

I'd say he's on wages that none of us should want to pay to be honest.

Kevin Kyle was one of ours, would he have been if he had Facebook? Nobody ever mentioned David bell and his wages did they?
Nick you missed the point. you get told on here to get behind the team and they go to Sixfields to do that. Meanwhile they are on here slagging off their own players. Recently Jordan Clarke, Connor Thomas. Just saying it doesnt stack up. Prefer to support players in my own team. I must be weird

Can't see him going to Orient, he is very much a Merseyside guy and has just bought a house in Meriden after commuting from the north west, kids are settled in the area now and his eldest just going to high school next year. That said, for one last payday to keep him going in his retirement, who knows?

10 goals in 43 apps isn't bad for a midfielder. I feel he is worth another season but I fully understand re his wages etc.

Pretty sure If he got a couple of years to see out his career he could rent a flat down there for 3-4 days a week ,leave the family settled.
