Would rather we moved on back to Coventry where we would earn more money so we can afford our best players ;)

It still would make no difference. Offering wasteful contracts and also not addressing high earners at the club have been key aspects of past failings.

I do not mind Baker in terms of he normally puts in a good shift, he simply is not very good and now we are in league 1 his current salary linked to his actual ability cannot be justified going forward.

However think he will stay this season as doubt anyone will take his current contract on. If this is the case will be a good squad addition for this season.
People talk about his loyalty .......however this will only be put to the test if/when Pressley offers him a contract on greatly reduced terms at the end of this year.
I suspect people who bang on about his loyalty will end up with egg on their face then when he rejects terms and moves elsewhere!

I am not concerned about his loyalty as that is something that doesn't exist in football beyond the fans themselves.

Just more his ability and the fact he has set up more goals than anyone else over the last two seasons.

With him I know what we will get. The new signings are always a gamble I hope that pays off.

The wages but was a bit of a dig. His salary pales in insignificance in comparison to the decision to take us to Northampton and not go all out to negotiate a return on more favourable terms. That is losing us millions. Bakers wage is losing us thousands and we get something in return.

The thing is though Don some would prefer to have a dig at a player who has always given 100% wearing the shirt...scored his fair share of goals and been our main provider of others and conducted himself brilliantly off the field when others couldn't give a shit about the fans or what the majority are going through....than criticise the potentially suicidal decision to kidnap the club and relocate it 35 miles away....beggars belief.

So what? He's an expensive luxury we can't afford. He's earned a good living at the club - I doubt he would have got it elsewhere. We need to move him on if we can.

Does it not make sense to judge on present performance?

You're right, judging him on his present performance, he's been non-existent for months..... ;)

It's been average and he earns the wage of 5 average players in this league.

I think the injury story would be legit. He's in his 30s, had a lesser season and was signed during the Championship years when we lit our farts with £50 notes, if they were planning to let him go I can't see any need for a cover-up.

Is it me or do you not select your pre season friendlies based on who will best to play for your squad at certain times.
Ie Nuneaton first match ideal. We should be playing three like that till we are match fit.
Then play people of league one and championship standard.
Instead we travel to Italy finding and it is down to some company to find us matches?
Why are the management not selecting who to play?

Maybe we are merely servicing the needs of Serie A/B in return for a heavily subsidised/free tour?

I don't have an issue with who we're playing in pre-season. There's probably some science to it, but broadly speaking I've always assumed that it works on the basis of gradually improving the opposition so that you face the better teams closer to the start of your season.

Regardless, what I do find odd is how disorganised it all sounds. When I used to follow pre-season (and I can remember trips to Wales and Ireland in particular), we always knew who we were playing and when. That seems to have fallen away now, and I can't really understand why. Either you've arranged fixtures with teams, or you haven't. Why you'd tolerate the services of a third-party (SP talks about a company being involved), who can't seem to sort stuff out until the last minute is beyond me. It's all a bit amateur, imho.

They're not really contintal Europe though, are they?

Do you know if City used an agent to organise foreign trips previously? I would imagine they always have unless the club employs multi-lingual staff.

You get fitter playing better sides where you may have less of the ball.

Or is this a horrid SISU plan to deprive local non league sides of the income from playing the mighty Coventry City?

If you say so, ever the conspiracy theorist.

I just thought it was poor planning letting someone else pick who you play in pre season friendlies at the last minute.....

Hi FP - I don't know, in truth. But if they are using an agent I'd suggest that they're not using a particularly good one if it's not clear who or when they're playing with only a few days left before travelling.

I'm not aware of other clubs suffering from this problem, even when they play pre-seasons in places where English isn't the first language. Didn't we have the same problems in Germany a pre-season or two ago? It's not the biggest issue facing the club, granted, but it still seems poor to me.

That is my suspicion too mate. ;)

I sometimes wonder if me, you and few selected fans could do a better job. Just amongst the fans I've met I could cover off a decent level of French, German, Polish, Italian, Russian, Danish, Norwegian and Ukrainian. If you can do the warmer climes (Spain, Portugal etc.), then I reckon we've got the European thing covered. Further afield, one in four of us should know Chinese, unless I've misunderstood Tommy Cooper. :)

I'm no linguist personally I should say, other than English the only other thing I can talk is bollocks. Still, it comes in handy that. ;)

Who cares who organised who we play?! It seems to me, we're playing two good sides...probably better standard than who we would've played if we stayed in the British Isles. Yes it would've seemed better/logical is SP would've arranged them but I suspect he might have had some input...certainly in the types of teams we should be playing, if not the exact teams.

A lot of folks need to chill out a little!

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to read 'chill out' as 'shut up'. Maybe you need to chill out. ;)

I don't care who organises it, but I would prefer that it's organised properly (as I suspect would SP). For what it's worth I'm surprised that we're seemingly so disorganised (again) in our pre-season travels.

If you don't hold that opinion, or it doesn't worry you fair enough - as I've said it's not the biggest issue facing the club.
