Yes because Liverpool let lots of other players go too and haven't signed enough players to replace them.
Oh wait that's not true. I'm not counting but they've probably brought more than anyone in the premier league and there squad has grown.
Are you also suggesting that getting rid of Suarez was a bad idea and the price they got for him was bad business.

Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic are their summer signings so far. Only one of them is a striker and he has spent 90% of his career playing at our current level or lower.

Don't make me do the research again. Since 1994 we've only sold out top scorer every now and again (apart from periods just before and after relegation). Under Fisher we've done it almost every window.

I agree. But we also had a decent size squad and a good chance of attracting a somewhere near equal replacement and sometimes they were even better.

So all up and coming/ proving themselves players get the highest wages? Players start they're careers with huge salaries?
I know what you mean, but if baker going means we can bring in 4 promising players, then I'm happy with that. I like baker, but we need a squad, not one man.

No they re-invested that money, have a decent manager who knew what he was doing. We have sold FOUR major players and goal scorers. Massive gamble imo.

Gallagher was top scorer for 2 seasons, sold in the third.
Ferguson and Wallace were top scorers for 4 years or so.
Gibson was top scorer for 3 years.
So no. They don't count.

It's even worse if you look at our 2 seasons in L1 combined. Top scorers:
Clarke 23
Wilson 22
Baker 19
Moussa 17
McGoldrick 16
Elliott 4
Fleck 4
Then your answer would be Fleck who last season managed 1 league goal.

And BTW we are now in Division 3. I suppose we kept our best players in the relegation seasons.....
Compare, judge or talk about passed teams and players,, but the facts are very easy you as a squad need to get better to compete, never mind advance and at the moment i'm not sure we are a better squad than this time last year...Selling Baker is ok if SP can bring in better or if he thinks he has already replaced him with better, SP job is to make these decision, only time will tell if the Murphy's and Baker were the correct way to go...

The lack of goals is my only worry ATM. We look as though we have a squad that are playing for each other but no real goal threat or proper movement in the final 1/3. We don't have enough height in midfield or up front. Hopefully we will bring in a few more players that will help with this problem.

If one follows the argument that the new blood cannot be trusted to perform, then logically you should also be worried about shipping goals. Our goalkeeper last season saved us many times - and yet he is gone. Our defence was poor and perhaps not surprisingly we have not been swamped with offers for them. If we assume anyone joining is not up to the job then they will continue to be poor.
We will lose every game by double figures at this rate.
I do believe there is a risk - Pressley has not proven himself in terms of player selection for tranfers. He hired none of the goalscorers who have left. He hired most of the defenders who were poor. There is clearly a risk.

I would even go as far as to say we were relegated because we never replaced one particular player.
We got relegated and Liverpool won their first trophies in years.

But we also spent some money on replacements. The last few season we are dealing in the free transfer markets. Not unusual for Lge 1 clubs, as the currency switches from transfer fee to wages.
The rub is, we can't offer the wages, so our chief scout resorts to the BUPA and NHS waiting lists for recommendations.

Clarke, Wilson, Baker, Moussa and DMC weren't exactly prolific before the last two seasons. It seems highly likely that O'Brien, Swanson, Miller and Tudgay (plus two more strikers) will score plenty in Pressley's system.

We are reliant Steven Pressley can pull a rabbit out of the hat with players that he is bringing in, his choice and playing the system he wants. It can do and then it could fail miserably. The problem he has is I can't see any get out if we have a run of injuries and not all the newcomers will come off, we will do well if 70% do. As yet not one penny of the transfer fees of Clarke, Christie, Wilson or this Baker fee if true has been spent on players and please don't come on here talking signing on fees and wages of these newbies the wages saved from the above more than covers that.

If Baker does leave, 55 of the 74 goals we scored last season were done so by players no longer at the club. Given we've lost perhaps the league's best keeper, and how close to relegation we were; I'm astonished how many people keep on heralding departing key players as 'good business'. On their own, each deal may make sense; but the collective narrative is very, very worrying - especially given the quality of replacements thus far.

In fairness Stu; faith is all we can have, as an analysis based on facts is alarming. Clarke, Wilson, Moussa gone. Throw in Murphy, Christie and now Baker and that migration of talent doesn't appear to be being matched by that coming in. And post-Christmas, we were showing relegation form with those players at our disposal
