Baker to Barnsley (5 Viewers)

It stems from the fact Duleiu offered a contract extension to him and a group of other players on enhanced salaries. I would guess his basic is £4,000 with bonuses for appearances etc. taking it nearer to the figure quoted. Its hard to believe when signed by us he was on much less than that before the contract was offered to extend his stay. There was a newspaper article quoting murphy at £8,000 a week.

...this is ground hog day right? I'm sure I read earlier this quote;

"It's strange you use a rumour about one players wages to justify why another's should not be discussed."

The key word here being 'possible'. It's equally 'possible' he's not on £8K a week. Where's the evidence he is? The fact he goes on caravanning holidays and drives a modest C-Class is seemingly indicative he's on a much more modest sum

I don't believe for a second that ccfc are so broke that they have to sell a player every time a large legal bill comes in. It's almost like they're doing it on purpose just to point the finger at those naughty people from acl/ccc/hmrc so they can sue them for their own downfall and batter them in court.

Especially when some people have been touting Joy as a billionaire lol.

No it wasn't me who thought it was incorrect to do that. I think
It's perfectly acceptable,

It is Groundhog Day though in the sense that once again we discuss the future of a League One ageing journeyman as if it has any relevance to our future.

Why does anyone care what Carl Baker earns? I wouldnt care at the best of times, but most of us dont even contribute to his wages at the moment. Except for the odd 50p when we buy tickets for away games.

4k, 6k, 8k, 10k it doesn't really matter, he will be our highest earner by a fair distance.

Does he merit a wage much higher than the average L1 player?

Found this 'FACT' site. It's 100% legit cause it's on the internet. I now really hate Burge, Fleck, Thomas. in fact I hate all our players as they are money grabbers. Baker should never be alloud to play for even our reserves cause he's only after moneys.

source - http://sportsearning.com/2013/04/29/coventry-city-fc-players-salary-list/

looking at the players they have for us, its clear they have their finger on the pulse these guys!!

they also have josh ruffells as one of our top earners on nearly 11,000 euros a week, so it must be true ;)

What difference to his wages make to his worth to the team? Whatever the value of the contract, it was gifted to him by a SISU appointed officer, when we were closer to a League One team than a Championship team. Just because a SISU CEO got it wrong, we're now to cheer his departure because it helps balance the books?

Again; his departure following those since January of Clarke, Wilson, Moussa, Christie, Murphy... and now Baker? Where's the quality coming in?

We seem to have reached an odd point where there is very little objection to our players leaving. Its all well and good saying that players can come in and do just as well but not all transfers work out and you only need one not to work out and we have a weaker squad than last year and lets face it, after Xmas we were in relegation form.

Indeed. Baker was one of the poorer players in that spell.

I thought there was trouble at the club when the bonuses for playing and such were stopped and replaced with bonuses reliant on the success of our club.

But that's a good thing, right?

As for Baker, it could be that he fancied taking in a game whilst the team is in Italy, and for some reason e.g. visiting friends / watching ex-team mates, he did so at Barnsley

didn't the CT publish and article pretty much this time last year saying either murphy or baker or both were on 8k a week ?

Typical, the knifes are out for Baker as he signed a legal contract. Just as SISU did so why pick on him! Carl has done nothing wrong, the only wrongdoing is SISU and so called fans with small brains who think his salary will be reinvested. If he does go, part of his salary will still be paid by Coventry to make up the legal time left on his contract.

So if he was offered a contract for 2 years doubling his salary at Barnsley would you expect him to honour his legal contract?

Carl Baker is in talks with another League One club, confirmation that the former Coventry City skipper is now surplus to requirements.
The 31-year-old fans’ favourite was conspicuous by his absence at Ryton today after being given permission to speak to another club as he looks to further his career elsewhere.

Barnsley appear favourites for his signature after he was reportedly spotted in the stand at Oakwell on Saturday for the Tykes’ 1-1 draw with Hull City.

Baker, who has another year left on his contract, has also been linked with Leyton Orient but the Telegraph understands the O’s are not in for the midfielder.
He had hoped to extend his four-year stay with the Sky Blues and told the Telegraph in April: “I am contracted to the summer of 2015 but I’d like to stay here for the rest of my career to be honest. I love the club and I love everything about it so I am not planning on moving.”

Given the various circumstances, it's hardly surprising news. Not sure about the "fans' favourite" tag but all the reports from the club have been that he's been a decent ambassador for us and has done a lot of work with youth schemes etc. Seems a bit haras as has just settled his family in Meriden after commuting for a few years, but such is life.

This means we need another midfielder (a winger to go with the 2 centre mids we need) - plus the missing 3 strikers. Otherwise the trap door beckoneth.

On another note, Baker's passing marks the last link with the Coleman era (other than possibly the odd game by Jordan Clarke) - excluding academy graduates, there is nobody left in the squad from the Coleman or Boothroyd years, and only Fleck & Barton from the Thorn years (which, for them, lasted just 3 games - not sure of how many they played of these). Our ridiculously high player turnover (to go with our managerial revolving door) might go some way to explaining our current predicament.

Yes a good thing. But not a good thing for morale to force through a change mid contract.

The place where I work want to do something similar. Our bonus is safe. It is linked to productivity, attendance and more. But we get extra payments as well. We are refusing to discuss the matter. They won't force the matter. They don't want the morale of our workplace to dip. The word is that they would offer us about 30k each to end the agreement. So if you are retiring in the next 8 years you would be better off. But we have some with 40 years ahead of them. And then the 30k would be taxed at 40% so we wouldn't get that much.

SISU forced it through. The morale dropped. It should have been done on new contracts only. But when has a contract ever bothered them?

Can't we just ask him to take a pay cut? Surely if he loved the club as much as he shows (his kids are even mini sky blues) he'd consider a revised contract? Would be a useful sub IMO

Do you mean like Murphy who came out publically that he would be happy to take a pay cut but no offer was forthcoming.

That won't happen, but the realistic plan is for him to get a 2 year deal with Barnsley and have CCFC pay up the difference in wages for the remainder of his contracted time here.

If it's true and he is on 8k a week, then we should get rid as soon as possible.

It seems like the 'Bakes' <cringe> love in comes from the fact he talks to fans on Facebook.

Where as it seems some of our fans <cringe> talk about finance and commercial decisions as if they have a financial interest in the club.

Murphy was always waiting for the championship to come in for him, we were his back up if one didn't appear

I see you are quick to say something against a player that is leaving or to defend the SISU actions. Both Baker and Murphy within a minute.

So are you saying that although Murphy offered to take a pay cut to stay months ago he was only after a contract elsewhere?

A lot of fans hold Carl in high regards as he is a nice bloke , who interacts with fans and always tried , fact is he had a pretty poor season last year and his wages are simply too much , it's the right time to move him on , but i like the bloke , there is no sentiment in football
