"Protest" Scarves (12 Viewers)

I believe copyright law protects an image for 70 years from its creation, so in the case of the old crest it might be free from copyright unless the image rights have been bought.

That's a fairly recent extension as well, don't get me started on the idiocy and counterproductiveness of modern copyright laws.

The original Coat of Arms would be well in the public domain considering it's a few hundred years old.

The problem I think comes from the specific interpretation. If that particular logo was made for the council say 5 years ago then it could still be in copyright. I know the modern coat of arms came in in the 50s, so I'd assume the old one is well out of copyright by now. Probably better to stick to that (without the phoenix) to avoid legal issues.

Like the idea of basically creating a City scarf to represent the early years. Says it all really. We were in Cov a hundred years ago and should be in Cov now.

Nick, I'd go with something like that, but i think it's being over complicated now with badges and stuff. keep it nice and simple with plenty of money to make for chairty.

Agree. I liked the original simple design. Equal red and green.

I agree just the colours is probably best, I just thought if it was a badge, it was best to go with one out of copyright.

Coventry City badge is not copyright as far as I am aware. Did a bit of research on it before (from TnS days) and it can't be copyright because it is too close to the badge of Coventry.

Any update on this? Would it be worth getting a list of members who are willing to pay up front, so we can get the ball rolling.

Haven't had chance today but will make a couple of threads tomorrow and do some on trying to drum up interest.

Yes, because they are the civic colours of Coventry. Not sure what that has to do with anything.

If we want to do something about Coventry City FC why would we wear the colours of another team, especially one that some on here have a problem with that team being in direct competition to CCFC. Almost like free advertising for Coventry United with scarfs walking round the city with their colours. The colour has to be relevant to CCFC now because it is now that we have the problems and it is the colour that most CCFC can relate to.

Are you saying MUFC fans were advertising for Norwich then? Bet Deliah was loving that! Maybe her whole "where are you" speech was misunderstood.

It's relevant to CCFCs history. Not sure why people see Coventry United as a big threat. They are many divisions below Sphinx. Are Sphinx a threat to us too?

To be fair everyone I've asked about this likes the idea of a scarf but not the red and green colours. Man U's worked because of the ridiculous media exposure they get. The sky blue ribbon is recognised as symbolising our plight so a scarf based on that might be an option. CJ posted something on a different thread too

How do people not get that if we just have a load of scarves in sky blue and white it just looks like our supporters wearing scarves and supporting the team? Using the civic colours is in support of the whole city. Coventry United... They've been going a year!! The idea of the scarves is for national attention again. Do you really think Joe Bloggs up in Manchester is going to think "morons, those are Coventry United colours" when it's been explained to him what it's for?!

Anyway Nick, how's the looking around coming on? Think we'll be able to get them for the first game of the season?

What colours or feedback did they give? Would a sky blue scarf not just be the same as getting one from the store?

From the Poll I think the results are a simple red and green scarf with no logos or anything for less than a tenner and the money to go to a Local or Children's Charity.

I have been hectic at work the past 4 days so not had chance to do much more with it. Waiting on a couple of people to get back to me in terms of funding also.

How many responses did you get Nick?

Still think that to be effective this needs either trust or telegraph backing.
