Starting XI for Bradford (4 Viewers)

I would like Pressley to stick with a 5-3-2 simply down to Hanson as he is a big pain in the rear end. My team would be:

Burge (GK) - Not convinced by Allsopp
Willis (CB)
Johnson (CB)
Webster (CB)
Clarke (RB)
Pugh (LB)
Swanson (CM) - I have not been impressed with Thomas this pre season.
Fleck (CM)
O'Brien (CM)
Tudgay (ST)
Miller (ST)

Just to add my say.

Connor Thomas is a bad footballer. Don't get me wrong he tries 100% and all that but he is no use. He can't tackle, isn't fast, bad in the air, he is very lightweight and gets shoved off the ball with ease. He doesn't score, he doesn't command the centre mid area. Done.

As for my line up. 4-4-2 for me.

As it stands I would have

Burge or alsopp don't mind.

Willis. Clarke. Webster. Pugh

Swanson and o Brian on either wing. With fleck and baker in the middle. (I know)

Tudgay and miller is standard.

I do expect signings this week though and suspect it could be 2 or 3 players who could go straight in.

I'm surprised not more people have mentioned Aaron Phillips at all has impressed me whenever I have seen him in first team picture.
Also people picking Webster over Seabourne? Mind you not a lot between the two.

Side though think he is bound to play 3-5-2

Allsopp GK
J.Clarke RWB
Pugh LWB
Johnson CB
Webster CB
Seabourne CB
Fleck CM
Swanson CM
O'Brien CM
Miller CF
Tudgay CF

Subs: Burge, Willis, Haynes, Phillips, Thomas, Maddison, G.Thomas

Probably should rephrase that. He doesn't do anything. He makes 5 yard passes to either side if him like a crab. He's Sammy Clingan without the free kick ability.

Maybe Pressley gave him a role where he is only allowed to pass to someone Scottish? Put a Scottish striker in the team and he might be
Quite productive! To be fair I would imagine that he is told to the dirty work and give it to the Scottish Wayne Rooney alongside him who is clearly a more creative player.

Thomas's other strength is reading and intercepting second balls. Let's not forget that he's only 20, and last season was his first real full season since being dropped in the deep end far too young in our championship relegation season.

Exactly i've said this time and time again on here, he is brilliant at being first to the second ball, was there almost every time at Watford.....

Thomas is one of those players that when the team is in form, you don't notice how he offers so little. Like Sammy Clingan. He gets carried in games a lot.

Couldn't agree more fry. He is a passenger and didn't show when team was playing well with Clarke and Wilson firing but when Xmas hit Thomas is a passenger and offers nothing but a body on the pitch

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has revealed that central defender Danny Season and Andy Webster are injured.
The duo missed the final two pre-season games against Bristol Rovers and Stevenage and Pressley has confirmed that Seaborne has a hamstring injury and Webster has a back injury.

Pressley has not said if the injuries to the pair will see them miss Saturday's opening game of the League One season away at Bradford City.

I'd have Webster over Willis if he's not injured.

Is Baker your new Cody McDonald?

Yeah, he thinks he will recreate his form for Stockport 5 seasons ago despite being poor in the odd occasion he has played in that/similar role for us and will be 32 in a couple of months. ;)

No, not really. We've brought Tudguy in to play in his natural position.

Baker isn't a number 10.

That's just the position he was playing when we signed him.
It's also the position he was playing when he was Stockport's top scorer.

It's also just the position where we are ironically looking for someone with his skill, ability and experience.

Baker would be good to keep. Vital experience amongst a lot of kids. Scores goals in this league for certain. Couldn't get a harder worker and 100% effort. Touch of quality.

And people slate the geezer? Baffles me.

That was 5 seasons ago. 1/3rd of his goals were pens, and he has played there for us since and been crap.

And ironically we're not looking for a number 10, they're looking for a target man.

You need to let it go now, he's off, he will very likely never play another game for us, so time to move on.

Not sure about the starting 11 but our bench is going to be seriously week probably the weakest we have ever had, I'm struggling to find any real match winning quality, long hard season ahead.

The bench we started with last season was far weaker:

Vs Crawley (First game of last season)
Lee Burge, Aaron Phillips, Adam Barton, Billy Daniels, Louis Garner, Leon Lobjoit, Ben Maund.

Vs Bradford (If we play 5-3-2)
Lee Burge, Aaron Phillips, Jordan Clarke, Jordan Willis, Adam Barton, Conor Thomas, Billy Daniels, Josh McQuoid

Match winning quality: O'Brien, Swanson, Tudgay and McQuoid

Sorry thought you meant baker. That said no guarantee he would have scored that many for us, given that Gillingham was set up to play to his style, direct/long ball playing off a target man.

Thomas and Clarke will almost certainly start on Saturday. But you could swap them with Seabourne and Swanson and it would be equally as strong. You could argue that Barton won't be on the bench unless Pressley does a U-turn and gives him a squad number.
