I'm sorry, but that's nonsense. You can do all of the research you want with regard to other teams and their possible woes, and still come up with perfectly valid reasons for why we might struggle.

Expressing those opinions is just as valid as you saying why you think we won't struggle. If I say I think you're "deluded" for thinking we'll do well, that would be crass. In the same way it's not fair to paint those with a negative outlook for this season as uninformed, which is what you are doing.

Are you so confident that we won't get relegated as to put your mortgage on it, literally? If not, then I presume even you would accept there's some doubt.

Mortgage on.

A lad on twitter @SideSammy has created an 86 page preview for the season, very useful for the negative City fans who need to educate themselves on League 1

http://wp.me/p2O0FK-iW

The review is a worthwhile read.

Re your negative city fans comment, our team in the last 23 games of last season got about 20 points. 8 those coming in the first 6 games of the new year.

Perhaps that is a reason to be cautious. SP has made some interesting signings but we have lost quality as well. So It remains to be seen if we have improved our pool of players.

I for one hope SP does have a successful season, as I just want us to have continuity with one Manager for about 4 or 5 seasons. I think that is the only way you will see real development of a team and a system.

Long time lurker first time post....For the forthcoming season i am cautiously optimistic but the jury is out on our front-line. Tudgay who no doubt has class and experience but has he the fight for league 1. When a player says he lost love with the game it always makes me think the worse in terms of commitment and fight.

However for LJC to slate other Cov fans for being sceptical is harsh, very harsh. After all we've had nothing to be hopeful about in the past few years.

Talking about those who think we are relegation candidates without even looking at the other teams in the league. If you want to argue about SISU/Sixfields/The yearning for the golden era of Premier League glory, do it somewhere else

why i'm entitled to my opinion as much as you stop trying to be a wum yuo'll never be as good as grendel

Great preview, really good read. Looking down some of the squads, I'm filled with a little more confidence than I was.

By the way, people saying our forward line is weak, Rochdale have Calvin Andrew, Crewe have Marcus Haber, Notts have Ronan Murray, Chesterfield have Eoin Doyle, Fleetwood have David Ball, Doncaster, have Nathan Tyson, Walsall have Tom Bradshaw, Swindon have Andy Williams, Colchester have Freddie Sears,Oldham have Jonson Clarke-Harris as their main strikers. Marcus tudgay is definitively better than these lot. Ask anyone and they will say they'd rather have tudgay than one of these.

I think we are relegation fodder or we just scrape it, do I have faith in SP, absolutely not, once we got found out last season he didnt have a scooby and didnt change it, one trick pony in my opionion.

Just for the purpose of LJC-CCFC, do I want us promoted to the Championship absolutely but then again I want us at the Ricoh, you cant have everything.

Ooooooohhh wait for it.

People who blabber on about us struggling last year by the way don't realise that without the deduction we'd have finished tenth.

See now this is exactly the sort of loser mentality that has plagued this club for years.

10th in league 1 is abysmal for a club of our stature, yet it is proclaimed as being a good season.

or we can still think we are a premier league club and are better than everyone else even though our squad, facilities and financial status disagrees??

Mrbluesky87 I hope you have done your research before giving that opinion.

He evidently hasn't as we have a squid easily capable of top ten.

Lets see, happy to be proved wrong.

That said, if we have a squad capable of top 10 this season, we should have been in the play-offs last year with the squad we had, what happened? The 10 point deduction cannot be used as an excuse for this because at one point we were their and then we slid away just at that point teams knew how to play against us.

Our second top scorer left in January.

we were close because of top 2 form, it was too much to keep that up in the end and once playoff hope vanished he we fell away

its like lifting a weight for 1 minute and a heavier weight for 50 seconds and then saying oh you ended up dropping it to the floor.

Out of interest. What are the star ratings based on? Fifa 14? championship manager?

I'm not taking the piss btw. Unless you have watched each player 15-20+ last season, how can you give a credible rating?

You'd have to ask him @sidesammy on twitter, I assume he's asked the fans of other clubs and given his own opinion.

Sorry, but I don't believe you. All this stuff about being bullish is fine, but would you really stick a load of money on us not being relegated?

If so, with respect, scan in your betting slip and prove it.

I'm not going to bet it, as I'm a student and skint. But I can say with confidence that we will not be relegated.

Bump this at the end of the season when Jordan Clarke bags a last minute winner to see us promoted

No need to bump it mate, if I was coming on here telling everyone I disagreed with that they didn't understand football and I've done all the reasearch, and I was absolutely certain we won't go down, then I'd feel obliged to put my money where my mouth was.

If you're so definite, then stick, say, a ton on it, or even fifty - it's easy money, surely?

The truth is that you can take whatever opinion you like on whether we'll do well or struggle, and find something to support it. The fact is, that for everything you've said, you're no more willing to lay cold hard cash down on your opinion than I am on mine.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is still that this is a very thin squad, and as long as we're at Northampton the scope for improving it isn't great. I suspect a season like last year, where we'll do well for a while and then fall away. Accepted that other teams have thin squads too - it could be that the key to success or failure will be the teams who don't lose their key players (a matter of luck, and perhaps finances).

Assuming our luck holds out, and we don't get many injuries, then if our key players are primarily loans or on short-term contracts, will we be able to hold on to them after January assuming they are flying? I'm not sure, in truth.

So, this isn't cut and dried one way or the other, no matter what you might say. To point that out isn't being negative, imho.

Tbh you'd get awful odds on us to stay up, probably something like 1.5, so isn't worth my money. Like I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I wasn't saying I'm right and you're wrong.

I'm just annoyed at what is stereotypical of City fans (and people from the city), that is them just disregarding our chances (without researching/thoroughly looking at all the components that come into play). How many times do you here someone say 'oh typical city' when we lose/draw a game, without taking into account the reasons for the loss/draw.
