What are everyone's thoughts having seen us experiment with this?

I saw us at Watford and Stevenage and think that the two performances show that 3-5-2 could be useful against tougher opponents and maybe away from home during the winter, but 4-4-2 is a much more positive, attacking formation. It will be interesting how we line up in the first few games.....

I feel in order for this to work effectively you need VERY good wing backs, that are extremely fit like Christie dare I say?!) someone who can really bomb forward and take people on.

Basically we need to be much harder at the back & more flexible with the system (formation we adopt, both home & away), then who knows?

Depends on the squad when the 'transfer window closes' but as usual optimistic.

Believe in SP & his Staff & what's been happening, players I've wished would have stayed have always moved on, not just now but over more years than I care to remember.

We must look forward to the future and not continually back, we can always change & impact the future but cannot change the past. PUSB!

It is a proven system and as you say useful against tough opponents and some away games. We need several systems in our locker.

I'm a fan of the system and it's proven to be successful recently in the World Cup and Everton under Martinez, my main concern is the ability of the players at our disposal to fit the system. We have players who should fit the gaps but so far pre-season has been difficult (can mean nothing), we still have massive problems at the back with every cross into the box looking dangerous and so far goals look a struggle.

Let's not forget though that at this time last season we were all predicting a right shit fest so I'm gonna place my trust in Pressley and say we'll be fine, unfortunately though I still think a boring mid table nothing season is the best we will achieve. And for the record I think if we take Webster out of the back three we will be a lot stronger, but the quality of our strikers (tudgay not included) is my biggest worry.

I agree, I can't remember the last time we had a decent plan B :(

My only concern with it is that it appeared to leave gaping holes down the sides when the wing backs got forward too high and we lost possession.

So if we were to alternate between formations, it could be a useful back up, but I personally prefer a 442

For a wing back system to work you have to have very quick mobile full backs who also have great engines. Not seen the City in a while. Do we have that?

For me, formation and tactics all depends on the opposition. Of course we should play to our strengths but also always play against the opposition's weaknesses... As someone said further up. Last year we had no plan B (Mainly down to lack of depth we had as a squad, which could prove to be our downfall again this year come the 2nd half of the season)

I suspect like a lot of people I'll be praising it if it works and slating it if it fails.

I like 3-5-2 but as man Utd are finding out you needs to have players on the wings that can get forwards and back equally well. I fear we also don't have the centre backs that the system requires to function.
