FFS if we drew on saturday this thread would certainly be different. SP i think is a decent manager with limited resources, sorry not going to be shooting him down after one game.

SP definitely quoted a % cut in playing budget this year on the fans forum, can't remember what % of the top of my head but it should be on iplayer if anyone wants to verify.

He said

'During the course of my time here, in the last year to allow the football club to operate and to allow us to operate within the football leagues financial fair play model the level of our budget has come down by 60%'

Which could be interpreted as a 60% from the first year, which was when Pressley arrived or 60% from last season. To me that saying 12 months ago the budget was reduced from the first year, this year it has been reduced again and now it is down by 60% of what it originally was when he arrived.

I think it is highly unlikely to be a 60% reduction on last season personally.

I will judge SP on results and promotion with this squad would be impossible. Sisu have given him a budget to fail.
Avoiding relegation I believe will be a massive achievement and I would except that as a good result.
Good luck SP !
It wouldn't be a massive achievement at all imo, not sure how you came to that conclusion.

I have come to that conclusion because Sisu have sold all our best players and due to budget restraints have been replaced by inferior players !!

Certainly our squad appears weaker on paper this season but enough for us to drop from a top 10 team to relegation? Not for me

Fairly obvious even for you to figure out - low wage budgets do not necessarily mean promotion is not ruled out.

Where has it been stated that is the wage bill anyway?

Promotion not ruled out Grendel as your example of Yoevil Town proves. However look at the three teams promoted from League 1 since 2004 to now and bigger clubs with bigger budgets tend to be the trend.

It would be like me saying Aston Villa won the old Division One (now Premier League for the younger fans) in 1980-81 by only using 14 or 15 players in their squad. Yes it can be done but we all know small squads don't normally retain form over a whole season, it was an exception to the rule.

Pressley inherited a reasonable team with a few additions could have been contenders. He was hampered by a 10 point deduction has since had the team dismantled (not his choice) and not forgetting he lost Clarke (transferred) and Wilson (injured) for second half of last season. He has rebuilt within the constraints he has been set and by his own admissions still needs two or three more players.

I can't believe some people are calling for him to go after one match?

I can believe it.

And you know as well as I do, those people wouldn't have a clue who we could realistically replace him with. It is easy for people to sit and moan about performances and results without having to produce the solution to the problem.

I'll tell you what grinds my gears about Pressley. It's his never-ending use of superlatives. Fantastic this and exceptional that. If things were so bloody good we'd have had better results. His press conferences and post-match interviews are the complete opposite of what I want to hear. What I found so refreshing about Mark Robins was that he spoke about the game in the way that we saw it. If it was a poor game he'd say that, not gush about so-and-so being tremendous and such-and-such played with an exceptional press. If Pressley cut the crap and talked truthfully about the game then I'd be willing to cut him some slack, but I honestly think he believes some of the nonsense he spouts. If he does, then his standards are too low and we should sack him now before he sends us down.

I don't think he actually believes everything he says. I think it is a deliberate thing from him.

I said last season, when the chips are down and confidence is low, he overly praises the team and goes over the top trying to build them up. Then when things are going well and confidence is high, he become critical and tries to dampen expectations and keep the players feet on the ground.

Someone close this thread far too many twats spouting shit out their arses on here IMO

Seriously you think anyone would want to join this circus if we sacked one of the brighest young managers around?

Playing some the most attractive football in a long time?

No budget at all?

Who would come in and do any better with players that are average league one players?

FFS stop thinking we are massive, and going for promotion every season, honestly some the shit spoken on here sometimes beggers belief!

What do you mean. "have sold our best players"? That's nonsense and you know it, Cyrus was 'out-of-contract' and wanted to play at a higher level and Callum more than quadrupled his wages.

If someone offered me 4 x what I'm being paid for doing the same job, I'd be away like a shot wouldn't you?

I can see where you are coming from, but as CCFC says he is more gushing when things aren't going our way and more critical when they are going well.

Alex Ferguson could be extremely protective of his players after a poor performance. Football is very much a confidence thing. Also the art of coaching is to know your groups limitations and set them realistic targets. You cannot expect them to perform skills or execute tactics that are beyond them.

Coaching is about developing individuals and developing a group of players. It takes time.

Robins didn't have a group of mostly young players though did he?

Your not the only one with close contacts ;-)
Callum didn't actually want to go, neither did Murphy but sometimes you are eased out the door. Yes Callum has increased his wages but he was not actively looking to do so.

It was like Jimmy Holmes turning up for training and being told quick get up to such and such hotel Tottenham are signing you.....sometimes decisions are made for you and the contract is sweetened to get the reluctant person on board.

How do you know those two didn't want to go? Do you know them personally?

I have said it before on here, I'm not an SP fan and believe he is just a one trick pony.

I keep reading how we are playing the best football in a long time, yet what is it, a couple of wins in 25 is nothing short of poor. FFS, I dont want to play the beautiful game every week and lose, I want to win and if that means hoofing it and winning 1-0 everytime, I know what i'd take.

All that said, who do we get to replace him, not many out their im afraid. Im sure theres a bloke called Robins available :sarcasm:

The best football been played... with a bunch of freebies and kids ... wins are important yes, but we lack experience and have no money to bring anyone in.... Pressley is working fucking miracles with this squad to even play the football he wants, never mind winning games, at least we are entertaining to watch.

Or would you rather play fucking hoofball and look shit.

There comes a point when people want to go obviously. That can be determined by all sorts of factors.

Where as Clarke and Christie, I would guess were probably more actively looking to move on. It's not all about player club as third parties or another club influences people's mindset. So I am not trying to set some anti SISU thing up. It is just how football transfers are.

Tell me... who would come in and do a better job with no money, and be dictated too by the owners??

In fact this is a question for everyone who is slagging off a manager who worked miracles last season on fuck all money.

So have I got it wrong then Sisu didn't sell Callum ?

The player wanted to go because the offer was so good (much more than we could afford to pay him), so the departure is inevitable. Does'nt mean the manager or the club wanted to sell him!

Agreed, but the club do have a choice on how much of that money they re invest. The money from Wilson sale will be additional to the budget they set themselves as it was unforeseen.

But if Sisu wanted to they could have put money in as equity to keep him.
They knew that the income would be cut when they made their play for the Ricoh.
They also said they would fund the shortfall until the stadium was built.
They lied.

Fact is i dont want him gone ...yet
So many ccfc fans hold pressley in some sort of high regard due to the struggles he faces , well what about gary johnson at yeovil , he had nothing to work with and they were promoted , seriously guys dont let our off field issues blind you into believing something that is just not true , he signed players on loan ...were terrible , all managers in league 1 dont make that mistake several times , over a year to sort out a back 4/5 , we have never conceded so many goals under anybody , thats a managerial / coaching issue .
All teams that recruited have recruited free players , why are ours worse , is it a ciaching managerial issue .
And as for him being a great young coach , i would regard somebody like uwe rosler a bright young coach

But we've already established on another thread that, using Pressley's statement as a basis for the maths, the budget is circa 1.7m. That's not 'fuck all money'. And Pressley himself said the Clarke and Wilson money had been reinvested in the team. And Pressley also said he had final say on all transfers, so it's difficult to say he is being dictated to. I'm not saying anyone could definitely do a better job, but I would say that if what he says is true then I think he could be doing an awful lot better. He appears to have wasted a lot of money on dross that we then have to pay off to leave. Of course, if those players and/or decisions weren't really his, then he is lying about it.

nice to see you ....... etc etc

its the balance were looking for, good football yes... but frickin winning too.

ideally , we would have a team thats hard to play against , whilst playing good football, and scoring goals .

its way way too early to be making judgements on this team...in fact its crazy to be calling for the sack after just one game .

i think anyone who does should just be written off as a giant arsehole .

i dont care about re-investment, systems , styles , new players , players leaving or gelling right now, its the first game .

i care way more about the debarcle that is sixfeilds !!!

And Pressley himself said the Clarke and Wilson money had been reinvested in the team.

You need to listen again, he was asked if the money had been reinvested in the team and very deliberately said it was in the club.

Simple maths tells you that, if SP had that money yet has only 60% of the budget he had last season something doesn't add up.

We must have stability.
we must have a good manager.

We have neither

Alex Ferguson THIRD season at Manchester United 6 wins out of the first 20 games and 3 wins out of the last 14 games people said he was crap and had been given too long. History shows he hadn't been given long enough.
