Coventry City closing in as Adam Le Fondre makes transfer request
by Andy TurnerAug 25 2011

COVENTRY City have stepped up their interest in Rotherham United striker Adam Le Fondre who, it is understood, slapped in a transfer request on Wednesday.

Millers chairman Tony Stewart yesterday dismissed the Sky Blues’ approach, claiming: “City came in with a joke bid a fortnight or so ago but I am sure they weren’t serious.

"I got the impression it was more a case of them wanting to show their supporters that they were trying to do something.”

Stewart was equally scathing about interest from Sheffield Wednesday, claiming: “I laughed when I saw the bid – it was less than we paid Rochdale for him.

"As a businessman, I don’t want anybody trying to take me to the cleaners.”

United paid around £125,000 for him two years ago but the Telegraph understands that City think they have made what they consider to be a realistic offer – believed to be around £350,000 plus add-ons – and that, if anything, it is Stewart playing to his local gallery.

Le Fondre is a firm fans’ favourite, having fired four goals to lead Rotherham to the head of the League Two table, but they have to decide whether to cash in on him now or risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires at the end of this season.

But the 24-year-old striker is desperately keen to step up to the Championship is appears ready to force the issue by telling United that he wants to leave.

Sky Blues’ pursuit of Le Fondre – nicknamed Alf – reinforces the fact that, contrary the internet rumours that resurfaced this week, they are not under a transfer embargo.

Had that been the case they would not have been able to recruit goalkeepers Joe Murphy and Chris Dunn in the summer or offer extended deals to the likes of David Bell and James McPake.

Would think that this is just an amalgam of many regurgitated stories to be honest.

Great if there is some truth in it but I am not counting my chickens.

Again, seem to be repeating myself.....Would love this to be true, already banged in a few in his league, the lads ready for a step up a division or two.

We have sent them a video of ROD's brilliant performance against Watford to tempt them into a straight swap deal

Where has this report come from? If it's true then we can surely expect to see him at the Ricoh vs Derby as we have offered exactly what their Chairman has asked for.

Bound to be some "delay" - and then the inevitible deal collapse. Nothing suggests he's coming here, just the CT making a story

Local paper playing to the gallery.
Someone will sign him, I think we are better choice than Sheff Weds at the moment, but if a better financed club comes in for him we are sunk!
Anyway there is no guarantee he will be any good, Baker scored loads in league one & can't do it in the championship.

Rotherham have denied he has made a transfer request and the story seems to be like someone mentioned an amalgamation of stories over the past week. We won't get him unfortunately.

its saying on sky news,on the strip that scrolls along the bottom, that we have made a further bid.
It does sound a little better if its on the news. I am readying myself for the certain collapse of this story, but while it's going i'm going to shout it from the rooftop of my house that looks over my town, that Coventry might be buying someone.

Lets hope something happens, Juke certainly needs a helping hand and Alf lookes a natural goal scorer.

According to Andy Turner, ALF has handed in a transfer request, Turner said the players agent and Thorn confirmed that. Turner also stated ALF has said he wants championship football, so that apparently rules out Sheffield Wednesday. During the webchat a journo who covers Reading games contacted Turner and said Reading are apparently interested in him, which would more tan likely rule us out!

straight from the horses mouth Adam Le Fondre himself has denied handing in a transfer request, Rotherham United have said that ALF has NOT handed in a transfer request....but Reading are interested in him so are about 25 clubs..only 3 clubs have but bids in
