HE IS NOT the best footballer in the world!
HE IS NOT the best player in europe!
HE IS NOT the best player in the country!
HE IS NOT the best player in the league!
HE IS NOT even the best player in our team!
HE IS NOT the next Essien/ Sneider/ Fabregas/ Xavi or anyone else people might suggest!

HE IS in the team because there is nobody else to play!
HE IS looking half decent because he has a bit of flair in comparison to the rest of the team!
HE IS a player in a team who has not won a game this season!

I am not slagging him off as I actually have been quite impressed with him but what I am saying is some people are going a bit over the top when they talk about his ability. He is a good young prospect who has had an opprtunity to play a few first team games and I hope it continues but to say some people are becoming dillusional is an understatement.

DISCUSS.... :)

I don't think anyone is going over the top over the kid but in the see of crap and mediocrity that is our midfield he has shone as a little beacon of hope, especially alongside Baker and Bell . He has all the ingredients to make a decent player but no one is expecting him to be dominating games just yet.

I know the lad via my daughter and he's just happy to be playing football and in his words he's just learning the game and improving with every match in the first team but he's gutted that the team isn't winning. He's not big headed about his own ability and thinks there are much better players than himself within team let alone other larger clubs.

HE IS in the team because there is nobody else to play! Connor Thomas?
HE IS looking half decent because he has a bit of flair in comparison to the rest of the team! Definitely
HE IS a player in a team who has not won a game this season! 1 player doesn't make a team

To summarise he is pretty good though isn't he.

I actually agree with you Fizzfazz. We always seem to get carried away by these prospects.

A few years ago Gunnarson was the next Stephen Gerrard... Now plays for Cardiff.
Kevin Thornton.... say no more.
The uproar over Dann and fox going.... both still playing championship football.
Kieron "best keeper in the championship" Westwood.... Sunderlands 3rd choice keeper.
Even more recently, people resigning over Conor Thomas... being kept out the team by someone the same age.

I would love nothig more than Bigi and thomas to develope into great players but its far too early to say whether they are going to make it. Thats the point FizzFazz is correctly making.

he's a great young player with lots of potential and i hope to see him improve whilst wearing a city shirt -

"HE IS NOT the next Essien/ Sneider/ Fabregas/ Xavi or anyone else people might suggest!"

do you think that because your daughter knows him that you can predict his future?

this is probably the most needless thread i've ever seen

He is a player thats been thrown in at the deep end and is more than holding his own. He is a very good prospect who is still learning the game and will get better as time goes on!! Would he get a look in if we had other players? who knows but one thing is for sure, he plays for the shirt and thats good enough for me !! Some fans complain about not blooding the youngsters and then when they do the moan about how they do !! He gives 110% for city that is all we can ask and thats how it should be.

Hold on just a second! Who's going OTT about Bigi?1 And don't you think this is negative OTT?! He's young, has shown he can cut it on the pich, plenty of potential with plenty of time to develop. Also, Kevin Thornton WAS a good player but ruined himself, slightly unfai about Dann as he's definitely moving to a Prem club (and by all accounts, a big Prem club), how about giving Westwood a chance and stop being so bitter that he wanted to move on to better things! Point is, support the damn team and the players in that team instead of criticising (sorry fizzfazz, no matter what you say, that's what it is), especially the young players!

he is not the next fabregas etc but he will be a very good player for us and we'll no doubt get a large sum of money for him in a couple of years. I also think this thread is pointless, just started to slag off a 17 year old who is trying his very best for the team and a player who actually cares about the shirt he's wearing

kg82, I hear what you are saying. I will support him 100%. What he has done in the few games is nothing short of incredible. To play with such confidence and to be the anchor of a team at that age is very impressive. But he does have a very long way to go yet.

With regards to the previous players, I will continue to wish them well. Wasn't being bitter but what I mentioned were facts current to 25/08/11.

WOW!! :p

What a response. I didn't create the thread to shoot down Bigi as I agree with most he is a potential prospect but the point I was making is this almost cult worshipping status of a seventeen year old footballer who is only in the first team due to circumstance.

Dazzled2u hit the nail on the head. I am pleased for the lad too, he is stepping up to the plate and taking his chance but in my opinion had Thorn had the opportunity to replace Gunnar with another player or two then Gael would not be in the team right now.

I don't want to alienate people on this forum but just go back over the last four or so weeks and see how many of you out there talk about the kid as though he walks on water.

The thread was started to generate the talking point of the fans' perceptions of the player not the player himself (a point that Harvey098 seemed to appreciate)

I love you all still :D

I personally don't think he's there yet, BUT he is going to be one of the best players to come out of the academy for as long as I can remember. As a Cov lad that's living out his dream and impressing me, I am happy to give him my support 100% and to be honest he has been far better than those around him. On a par with Clingan imo.

I think if you all looked properly you will see both sides.

It seems clear to me that he is the greatest thing since sliced bread right up until the point when he gets sold and then he will be a judas scummer who was never really that good who was over-rated and we're better off with the money and our new young gun who has replaced him. Rinse and repeat.

This is how football works right? :)

Well gael if u do read this ignore the negative comments and thank-you for stepping up in a dark time for our club and being head and shoulders above what we expected. Without the commitment of u and a few other players at this club we would be up sh*t creak without a paddle...

Legend!

I looked on the watford forum, and they said he stood out and stole the show for us.

'He won't be at coventry for long' said one off them.

Fizzfazz, I get why you've posted the thread, I just haven't seen that much bum licking to be honest! Most people have put on here that he's stepped in and done a great job and looks a fantastic prospect which, I would say, is spot on. Doesn't seem over the top. At least it's got some people (including myself) showing a bit of passion though!! I would also say, at the moment, the only reason he wouldn't be in the team if we had a fully fit squad is injury or to have a rest.

Totally agree with Scott. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Why comment then? Just let it pass you by like 99% of the threads on here that I don't reply to. There have been far worse threads on here before and there will be far worse again in future. Sorry I took some of your precious time to share my opinion (something which is usually encouraged on a public forum).

KG- thanks, for pointing that out too.

Let us look at the footballing facts surrounding Gael so far this season:
  • he looks very, very comfortable on the ball
  • rarely gives it away (except for the Watford game - nerves jangled)
  • can retain and regain possession
  • looking for openings
  • has pace
  • isn't afraid to shoot
  • appears committed to the CCFC cause
  • first touch control
  • and he's only 17
The only "weakness" and it may be tactical is occasionally he could have played a more attacking ball instead of passing sidewards - but not very often

You only need to look at the general athleticism and match awareness that he exhibits - some players have never and will never show these traits on the park.

I agree we should not go totally OTT on his ability but isn't it a breath of fresh air when someone of genuine talent belongs to CCFC

Agreed ability with commitment to CCFC lets hope when he maybe has his off days that we can bring in someone to give him a rest, without destroying his confidence. I suspect he may well prove to be good enough to stay in the team for most of the season.

Not only a breath of fresh air that someone of genuine talent belongs to us but he is committed to us.

we need to make sure he doesnt feel too much pressure at being a key component of the team. He's only 17 and just needs to enjoy his football. He wont be a xavi admittedly, but we may aswell support him as much as we can!

I didn't think that much of him against Leicester - looked a bit lost and a bit clueless when on the ball if not able to make a 5 yard pass. However... I'm prepared to give the lad some slack as, like others have said, he's very raw and untested at this level, seems
to have a good attitude, took the initiative to actually play for the club in the first place and will inevitably get better with each game once the team around him actually works out what system they're playing. He's definitely a positive step rather than sticking in some has been who's just on there to pull in a last pay day before retirement (Sherwood for example). It'd also be nice for him to have someone nippy to slide the ball into every once a while. said, he's very raw and untested at this level, seems

I think he's been our best player bar clingan this season and looking on other fans forums they agree.
