Jim O'Brien, eating batteries? (2 Viewers)

The running from this guy on Friday was absolutely unreal, right up until the 90th minute he was sprinting beyond the strikers, flying into tackles and pressing and chasing every ball like his life depended on it (as did Thomas before he was spent & subbed).

One of the highest energy and committed performances I have seen from a City player in a long time!!

Bravo SP for bringing him to the club :claping hands: he is vice captain material and could easily step up if Reda was injured.

I said in an earlier thread how much I was impressed with O'Brien in Friday's game. Hope he keeps this up. I think he'll be a firm fan's favourite.

Hell of a ball to Haynes for the goal. Didn't appreciate how good it was until watching it on TV when I got home.

I noticed a lot of players' first touch being so good their second was a volley, whereas O'Brien seemed a lot more in control.

It was executed brilliantly perfectly waited etc, but I love that Haynes called it. Haynes pointed where he wanted the ball, I always love that in a player!!!

I'm an O'Brien fan too - I like how he's willing to take the ball in a tight space and try to use a trick to make a bit of room for himself. Valuable skill in a central midfielder I'd say. The other stuff, the sheer graft, and the willingness to try to get ahead of the strikers at times, that's an even bigger bonus.

He'll be a key player this season I reckon.

O'brien was well liked by the Barnsley fans due to his excellent work rate, however he wasn't quite up to Championship level technically so i think he should definitely flourish at this level.

Think he could be one of those players who is 'between divisions' ie not good enough for the league above and too good for the league below.

The breath of fresh air in O'Brien's engine is the positive movement he makes. On Friday he was taking us forward from his very first touch of the ball. We have had players with plenty of wasted energy in the past. It's so good to see positive players. That's what a 27k want to see. So I truly believe performances like that will continue to bring in big crowds. It's an entertainment game after all. Well done O'Brien and well done SP.

Yes, he's really impressed me this season. Just needs to concentrate on his shooting accuracy.

I want to see Swanson and Miller play now. One thing about Friday that amused me was when a number came up on the sub board, most people turned to look at the scoreboard as they had no clue who any of these players are. It's a whole new world of discovery!

Swanson looks pretty decent, ajs. The first couple of games I saw him play I thought he was excellent. Not seen much of Miller really as he's usually be used as a sub.

Guy in front of me would get half way through shouting out a rant but then pause to check who it was he was shouting out on his programme.

I'm going to assume Tudgay just had an off day or something but McQuoid looked far more willing and enthusiastic in his brief cameo too, that was encouraging.

Jim reminds me a lot of Chippo in his style of play. Excellent engine, can go forwards and also enjoys a tackle. Bit of technical ability. Yeah, the Scottish Chippo.

that pesky mquoid stopped us booing him with 3 goals. now nouble has scored on debut we cant rip his goal ratio

tudgay is now the person we must target and boo, there must be someone!!!!!!

Conor Thomas has got a weird haircut, I'm sticking with that if Tudgay lets me down by playing well against Yeovil.

YAY! Let's destroy the confidence of our kids! That always guarantees success.

FFS. He's 20 and he's not crap. What the hell is wrong with CCFC fans?

I dont think we should boo the players , but i think conor thomas needs a week with the england rugby team as hes weak as piss tbh , if he was stronger on the ball and off it , he would be a very good player

O'Brien works hard, but his runs are intelligent giving us an attacking option. He can also pick a pass as shown with the one to Haynes for the goal. Their was another similar pass which a Gillingham defender just managed to get a toe on and intercept otherwise they would have been wide open. He looks a decent signing.

Thomas has potential. Some of the youngster need a bit of support and encouragement. He started well against Gillingham.

Thomas was good in the first half but seemed nervy and unsure of himself the second. I don't think he was particularly alone in that regard. Benefit of the doubt for all, miniature American flags for others!

he was brilliant in the first half i felt, didn't really lose the ball, controlled well, helped assist the goal in a peripheral manner. second half not as good but still did well imo.
