after the start to the season we've had i can't see you scrapping the formation anytime soon.

is everyone happy with that? i was worried thay just one injury to a centre half could ruin it all, but with seb hines signing and clarke being able to play there is needed i think we now have the cover

It's certainly made us defensively a lot more solid, which is definitely what we needed after last year.

My only gripe with it is that sometimes there is too large a gap between the midfield and the strikers and the top two sometimes get a bit isolated.

I'm not happy with it, the same as many other fans.

Sure we're unbeaten in 7 games, but where have all the goals gone? Grrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:slap:

Oh, and .....

I still can't honestly believe that it's made a comeback as a formation of choice. Retro. What next, five up front making a comeback?!? Can anyone give me a proper, tactical explanation for why so many managers are favouring 532/352 after two decades of disappearance?

i think its making a comeback as hardly anyone plays with widemen these days and put crosses into the box, most teams width comes from their fullbacks so wingbacks can deal with that higher up the pitch and stop it at source and you get an extra man in midfield and can still have 2 up top.

if you tried to play 3-5-2 against man utd in the late 90's with beckham and giggs out wide and yorke and cole up top i think you'd be in big trouble

Lots of teams were playing 1 striker formations, against which a 3-5-2 is useless.

Nowadays the trend seems to have gone back to two up front (particularly at our level) and so 3-5-2 is coming back as it's ideal against 2 up top, especially a traditional 442.

We are now much more solid and thank God for that.

Swindon and Gillingham and Yeovil could have seen us buckle if we have deployed previous seasons formations.

How many late goals have we given away these past few years to lose games?

This season it has only happened once in that first game of the campaign.

ed they didn't supply Haynes in the same way as the week before .

Personally I think that was probably due to Instruction ,on your other point ,i'm more concerned If we pick up an injury In midfield TBH.

there was very litlle Crossing on show yesterday ,my brother was realy frustrat

EDIT;- Bottom line should be at start of post.

Yeah this, as 4-4-2 has got more popular, the back 3 has become more popular to try to nullify it.

Also, plenty of teams want to play 2 strikers but also have a star number 10 they want to use without shoving them out wide. The diamond system is coming into fashion for the same reason.

It's looking better as the games go on. Just hope we have a good plan B for when it gets figured out (as it ultimately will)
They have tried to figure us out! They doubled up on Haines and pushed the full back up on him however that leaves them naked on the left side and Jordan Clarke tried his best but really needs to learn how to shoot with his left foot, he could have had 4 shots on goal on SaturdaySaturday

Of course it will, every team gets worked out, are you good enough to beat it tho?
We can all work out a style of play and find a counter to beat it, in this league with our squad?
If i had money i would put it on us!
Simple really, i like Pressley, his ideals and us going forward.

Simple really, we are on the up!!!!!!!!

I hope!

its clearly working, loads of teams use 352 in italy over the years

it gives you stability at back with 3 CBs

width with wing backs

ability to flood midfield with 5
ability to sure up in defence with 5

goals were lacking at start but were creating more now both down the middle and out wide.

long may it continue.

People saying the goals have dried up, but we could have scored 4 and possibly should have so as long as the chances are being created, the goals will come. I'd take 1-0 every week.

Currently the best set up for us with the personnel available and as others have stated it is very flexible, it gives you bodies in the crucial midfield area, allowing the press favoured by Presley.

They did, however the number 6 for Yeovil kept Haynes quiet, he still did a job though, kept the shape, kept the ball...

yeh even though haynes was nulified his ball control was great, we are lucky to have a team so releaxed on the ball for once.

I think the formation breeds creativity people dropping short for the ball and then blessed also with width , we have got a lot of players now who are comfortable in possession and they all make themselves available ,in a ridged 4-4-2 there's a lack of freedom I feel. I think in the last couple of games I've stopped putting my hands over my eyes every time we start knocking it round at the back , we press teams now and a lot of the play is broken up by our midfielders now I'm really enjoying watching us ..,

The 352 protects our defensive vulnerability at the back and in midfield by flooding it with numbers. 1-0's all season will do me.

Couldn't agree more system suits us especially now we've got a big man up front allowing us to bring the midfield into the game more vast improvement Saturday IMO

I feel that we could have turned a few draws in to wins with a more expansive formation but a long as it works I'm happy. Plan B will obviously be 4-4-2.

I hated the formation , maybe we were spoilt a bit last season with the attacking powers we had , but its far more relaxing and enjoyable knowing that if we go 1 maybe 2 nil up , the likeleyhood of us throwing it away is alot less than last year , and in general we are doing better
