I said this week's ago and was branded an idiot. His communication skills are woeful.

Not at the game today, but judging by twitter he hasn't impressed today.

We have 2 young goalkeepers. 1 is ours and 1 isn't, yet we play the 1 that isn't ours? Seems stupid to me that we are developing someone else's player whilst our own is sat on the bench. It's not like Allsop is saving us points/games.

Looks like we need a decent keeper or no matter how tight our defence is we'll ship goals again. You need a solid keeper at any level or you'll always struggle.

Thats what I don't get. Unless we've made some agreement to take him permanently as he's not significantly better than our own player why are we developing his game for someone elses benefit?

I dispose unlike Burge he has got a seasons worth of experience and was in goal for Bournemouth in their promotion season, so has that experience. Can't blame the keeper for the amount of goalscoring opportunities be created by the opposition.

The question must be asked why allow an established experienced keeper like Joe Murphy, who wanted to stay, go, and despite having over 3 million in transfer fees in the bin not signing a regular goalie. The one position you must nail down in any team is goalkeeper.

We didn't let him go, he wanted to go - he's chosen to take championship wages to go and sit on the bench. We can't afford to pay championship wages whilst in league one. And we know full well they the Wilson money has been used to cover operating losses.

That is simply not true. Show me a quote where he said that he wanted to leave.

Take it from me like Carl Baker Murphy wanted to stay, sisu never offered him a contract and that's fine if the manager wanted to change the goalie for someone else. My question was why haven't we signed a goalkeeper on a permanent basis, In my opinion the most important position in the team despite having money from in coming transfers and Waggott did say when Callum Wilson was sold that money would be invested on the pitch.

Would that be the same Waggott that some are calling for to be knighted?

in my lifetime, we have had oggy, hedman, kirkland, westwood, murphy

a couple of dodgy games with Nuzzo, Sealy, Dimi etc, but all in all, GK has pretty much been a constant strength for us.. I cant say that at the moment

It was on the pitch at Sixfields.

Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley confirms goalkeeper Joe Murphy has engaged in talks elsewhere

Coventry City boss Steven Pressley has confirmed that out-of-contract Sky Blues goalkeeper Joe Murphy has been in talks elsewhere regarding his future.

The Republic of Ireland international is coming to the end of his current contract with Coventry City and, following recent media reports speculating about a potential move to Championship side Huddersfield Town, Pressley confirmed Murphy was holding talks regarding the 2014/15 season and beyond.

Pressley said: "I'm obviously aware that Joe has been in talks as he will soon be out of contract with us but to this point I understand that has been no contracts agreed or signed.

"Joe has been exceptional for this football club, both in terms of his form and level of appearances, and obviously I would like to see him stay here.

"By the same token, we are also aware that Championship football brings with it Championship wages and we would be unlikely to be able to compete with that.

"However, we still would like the opportunity to make a case for him to remain with us. I know he enjoys being here, he is highly respected and his performances have attracted a great deal of credit so ultimately it will come down to how Joe sees the next stage of his career."

And.....

Resigned to losing Murphy, City’s development director Steve Waggott said: “Joe was one of the Championship players in our squad who had a reasonably good deal at the club, so I think he and his agent are looking at other options and seeing if they are more attractive than staying another year or so with us.”

It's quite clear to me that we wanted to keep him, but couldn't afford to continue to pay his reported £8k a week wage.

You can argue that he said he wanted to stay, mark robins said he had sky blue blood. When you offer a new contract the terms are usually improved terms and kick in straight away - this is why no contract was agreed and offered before the end of the season, he was never going to agree to a 50%+ pay cut whilst his current contract was in place, it was never going to be settled until the end of the season. He chose championship money.

I haven't been impressed with Allsop in any way, how bad must Burge be to be the understudy to him. I would like to see us bring in an experienced keeper and a big horrible central midfielder a bit in the Reda mould.

[/QUOTE]That is simply not true. Murphy was told way back in January to find a new club, he wanted to stay. As for his so called £8k wages part of that 8k was his signing on fee when he joined. And as said I'm not bothered about Murphy but I am bothered about not replacing him properly and by that I mean on a permanent basis.

You seem to be missing out the most important part. We didn't offer him a new contract. He even came out and said that he was prepared to accept less money. It is quite difficult to accept something that isn't offered. Or was he supposed to play for free?

We have all been mesmerised by the return to the Ricoh. We forget how we have sold and freed up wages of best, Clarke, Wilson, baker, Murphy, christy, mcgoldrick etc and not one penny has been invested in the team.
sisu have pocketed all this money for their shareholders and put no investement in the team.

We were only paying mcgoldrick £2k per week, and he wasn't our player, Wilson and christie were on peanuts and Ffs best left years ago, we've had plenty of player come in since then.

We have been losing £4-7m a year for years, even in our last season at the Ricoh we lost £7m that year. They haven't been pocketing money.

And you mention the players from last season - how many signing have we made this season? Do those players no get paid? Not had signing on fee's? Not had to pay clubs a loan fee? Agents fee's? We also had to pay baker off.

'Pocketing the money' as if they have taken any money out. They are covering losses. Maybe money isn't getting spent where we would like it to be spent. But only a total mong would still say they are pocketing money.

He scares the shit out of me. Looks very quiet for a keeper and does not give me the impression he commands his area. Perhaps one for the future but sadly could cost us more points than he should save.

It's the affordable option. You talk about their incompetence in running a club but think they should break the bank to pay for a keeper. Not one of the defeats this season is attributable to Allsop.

Then why is the majority in favor of burge our own keeper getting a go?

We mostly feel he is not good enough although grant it we were spoiled with JM last season.

There's always the nagging doubt with Murphy too, that for whatever reason Jim Blyth for one was never keen on him, quite the opposite in fact.

Not sure I quite saw it myself (we are where we are, so we're never going to have the second coming of Shilton) but when the man who coached Oggy, Hedman, kirkland... and Hyldegaard while here is quite so belittling you maybe have to ask if we see the spectacular, and miss the general all-round game of a keeper.

So maybe Murphy going isn't the catastrophe it seems on the surface? Given the choice of keeping one of those who left during the summer, I'd have plumped for Christie every time... especially if we're doing wing backs!
