Interesting question about its effect on Cov. Does CCFCs presence help or hinder Sphinx and other local clubs?

Genuine question, we're always told grassroots athletics benefits from the Olympic success. Would a more prominent rugby team increase the fan base for Cov? It's not likely that the Cov hardcore will support Wasps is it? I don't know what rugby culture is TBF.

What it would do is at a stroke demote the city's premier rugby club (and one with a half decent history no less) to the secondary one, with no hope of ever getting beyond a certain level.

And not through anything they'd done, either.

There was a plan a few years ago for the Chairman at the time, Keith Fairbrother(?) to buy Bedford and thus buy their league place and that was rightly shot down in the end. Would be helpful if similar were here, too. Sport's never about just parachuting in teams, not in this country, anyway. Even if there were a short term bump with Wasps I'd be rather concerned the long term effects on identity and belonging would be far, far worse... the kinds of things accountants don't necessarily measure, but sociologists try to even if it is unfashionable in the modern age.

Honestly? I don't think it would. Would you go to a Man U game over a City one? But an increased market for live football might swing some fans back our way. I doNt think its open and shut and last time I checked sarcasm is hardly evidence.

Not many watch Rugby in Coventry, a more popular team may make the sport more popular, as has been seen elsewhere.

Anyway just listened to the Cov owner on the radio who said it would ve a merger anyway if it went ahead. He sounded less pissed off than you, so maybe you should direct your sarcasm at the mirror as Id guess your position has more to do with your irrational hatred of a certain stadium management company rather than any concern for the state of rugby in Coventry.

No he isn't a heavyweight other than in the expenses league table.

I've never heard a progressive thought from him in his life but at least he is consistent.

If this Wasps thing is true I think it would be great for the City of Coventry and our football club, might hopefully be the tipping point for Sepalla and friends and bring on a new era for our team' regardless what anyone thinks of Bob Ainsworth I believe he is speaking with some insider knowledge. For me getting back to the Ricoh was first priority and getting rid of sisu second and I don't apologise for that.

Whenever I mentioned being from Coventry to other Labourites I'd always get asked if my MP was the one who complained people were being mean to him because of his Coventry accent. Somehow I don't think he is well regarded in the party.
