O'brien right wingback? (5 Viewers)

O'brien played right wingback and right back at Barnsley before. Great engine natural wide player, tough tackler, good cross. Surely a more attacking choice?!

If we play 3-5-2, I'd like to see this until Red a gets back:

Just think the loss to the midfield area would be too great. Don't think we can afford to lose him from where he already is.

I think our biggest problem is; SP bought players in the summer to play 4-4-2, hence why we have wide players (Swanson, O'Brien and Coulibaly) playing centrally or not at all.

We have Jordan Clarke (a decent defender) being asked to play an attacking role, which in my opinion is beyond his capabilities.

If SP could rewind the clock, I assume he would:

- Not have signed Swanson and bought in an attacking right wingback
- Not signed Coulibaly on loan and bought in a proper anchor man/defensively minded midfielder.
- Signed a box to box central midfielder.

I agree he is good in centre mid, but in a 3-5-2 your wingbacks make or break the system. I think he would be very influential there....

Clarke isnt asked to play in an attacking position, watch how we play, when Haynes / Pugh go forward, Clarke stays back and the defence move across to cover the space left by the left wing back, Clarke is asked to provide defensive cover. Yes there are times he will get forward (much as he would do when playing right back) but primarily our attacks are currently coming from the left hand side.

Hope they progress him in this ,his preferred position,and not as a Utility type player ,be wasted as a CH IMO.

Sorry KD but I can't see why that idea would come into thinking, O'Brien has been one of our best players so far and I don't think Jordan Clarke has been that bad out at RWB.

He didn't look like a natural centre half against Cardiff, truth be told. Was probably more out of necessity as Hines hadn't signed by then. Would rather see him played in his natural position, we have had far too many square pegs in round holes over the years.

Do you remember when we had Christie and Adams tearing down each flank, have you noticed the big spaces left by Arsenal as their fullbacks are pushed too far forward, did you notice the big spaces left by Utd v Leicester as their wing backs were too high up the pitch.... I am sure you are beginning to get the picture.

Agreed. But he was particularly awful. Couldn't pass a ball 10 yards. Like I said though, hopefully that was nerves and he progresses into a quality player

If he brought in players for 442, commiting the club to contracts on players he won't use before changing his mind on a whim he should be fucking sacked.
