So...I was just reading the match report for R.Madrids home La Liga game with Elche last night and was astounded to see the attendance at the game. The Bernabeu holds 85,454 and the crowd last night was 63,634. Now, with their size of the stadium, that works out at an attendance of 74% of stadium capacity. I then was thinking about what that represents as a % of Madrids population. According to good old Google, Madrids population is about 3,234,000 meaning that again as a %, last nights attendance equated to 1.96% of the Madrid population.

I then got to thinking about the recent comments/threads (sorry that this is yet ANOTHER one) about our Yeovil attendance and the fact that many said it was disappointing. I did as well actually but when I compared the attendance to local population (11,085 vs 316,900), it came out as 3.5% meaning that statistically, we had a better population:attendance ratio than arguably the most successful football club of all time, albeit for one game!!

I know this is only one game and the Bernabeu will fill for many other games but I just found it interesting. There's many variables that affects one game on it's own but it's interesting that the most successful club in history cannot fill their stadium when they scored 8 goals in their last game!

That's all,

Cheers,

WM

That attendance was an extreme low for Real Madrid. Last season they averaged 77,804 at the Bernabeu which is 91.3% full, a lot higher figure than this one game.

Also worth factoring in with the population of Madrid that they have another team Athletico Madrid who averaged 47,500 that season. Both a pretty good support base for two clubs of the same city.

No wonder fans are voting with their feet they lack ambition and have become a selling club with the likes of Alonso and Di Maria being sold and replaced with muppets like Kroos and Rodriguez!

There are actually 4 La Liga teams in Madrid. Don't forget Getafe and Rayo Vallecano.

Bet there is only 40 next week though - fickle or what!

Lol! They usualy have a crowd average of 135 - 150 but evening games are always less! Reached the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup and play Winchester away on saturday. 2 more rounds and we get to mix it with the big boys! Here's hoping!

Out of interest, what sort of crowds do Coventry RFC, Coventry Blaze and Coventry Sphinx get? I am assuming that the rugby and ice hockey attract around 1000 each, and I know that most Sphinx games last season struggled to get over 100 even without City in the mix. Also, what do Coventry United get, if any?

Thanks for ruining it for me - I'd recorded the match and was going to watch it later (plus I had 50p on Verwood) :slap:
