Exactly
The performance against Gillingham was not exactly exciting was it? Yes, it was good enough to give us a win but did not fill those of us there with the feeling that that was the start of something special. Until the team produce performances filled with excitement then attendances will continue to fall I'm afraid.

Well it did for me. Seemed like the start of something special. Made me think if we had 20,000 every home game we would win a lot more games than we would lose. Great atmospheres like that can really spur players on.

After the Gillingham game quite a few people were talking play-offs.

If your embarrassed don't go I am happy we are back therefore I go.
I am unhappy at the players we have purchased or have on loan but I will still go
I am unhappy at the shit football we have played so far this season but I will still go.
I hate our owners and what they have done to us but I will still go
I am one of about 8,000 supporters who didn't give a fuck about the policies until they took us to Northampton.
We will be there through thick and thin unfortunately as Ian said on the Radio on Saturday it is an entertainment business if you do not entertain most won't go.
Ian is one of the 8,000, Ian is also one of the 1500 who went to sixfields.

And before you all start ranting it has fuck all to do with being a super fan it is about being a Cov fan and a stupid one at that for paying to watch that shit.

Give the people what they want (A good entertaining side) and they will be back Just don't leave it to late.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I am delighted the City are back and immediately went out and bought a season ticket. But because I am embarrassed that more people aren't going, you suggest that I don't go?

Yup game was... alright. Not great, but alright.

But atmosphere was terrific. Did anybody come out saying that was all a bit shit and a waste of money? Wasn't it actually a game where those of us who aren't enamoured with the Ricoh could actually appreciate its worth? Wasn't it a game where it was special to follow *our* team?

And surely the point of going to a game is as much the atmosphere and it being, well, fun to be there live than the actual performance? OK, the performance can help the atmosphere and all, but if it was all about the great football first half of last season Sixfields would have been full, while the rest of the time we'd just watch Arsenal or Man City on the telly.

Now if you went to Preston, I'd far more understand bog all people going back the next home game than I would after Gillingham!

Who were these people were we really that good against a poor Gillingham side.
Were Preston really that good yesterday? No an average side made to look better by a poor side. How can we expect to win anything if we can't beat poor sides like Preston at home?

I don't think anyone was that good against Gilingham, it was still a special night though, a great atmosphere and we won. What more do people want to come back to a game other than a great time and a win?

Not much else besides an exciting game, but the atmosphere was so brilliant it made the game really enjoyable anyway.

The warning signs were there against gillingham. They easily could have scored late on. MK away very inept performance, Bradford away same could be said, if it wasn't for reda late goals then be a poor result on paper. Rochdale was poor too. Out of all the games this season I've been, only Yeovil was half decent at best. 10 games in its a bit worrying

Sorry if this has been pointed out already but we were getting 10-11k in League One at the Ricoh in 2012/13, so it's not like we're down on the previous marker. Relegation season in the Championship and we had £15k average.

If you want to look at why crowds aren't higher, look no further than our vile owners who have totally alienated the fan base. Hard to get a city excited when there is such a bunch of scum running the club.

You are running out of excuses mate. Thought it was all about supporting Pressley and his young team back at the Ricoh.?
Bet he would be delighted to hear that's not enough for you.

With Reda in the team we have a chance. Good defender and good when he goes up front. He gives our opponents something to think about. We get forward more with him. Without him we are poor.

It isn't enough.

We should be one of the biggest clubs in Division 3. We should have one of the best sides in Division 3. We should be looking at the playoffs minimum. This is because we are one of the best supported clubs in Division 3 now we are back home.

Or should we just be happy with supporting SP and our players however bad it gets and never complain? Either our players are not good enough, they don't have a clue, SP isn't good enough or a mixture of all of these.

Complain yes, it is only right to be pissed off at crap performances and go home annoyed but I wouldn't say only support the team when they are winning or anything. Can't really say "Oh I will only go and watch when we are in the top 6".

Not that I am saying you are, but that is how some people come across.

i thought everyone was so happy we were back home that they'd give the team their full committed loyalty past one single home game. It seems to be a case of 'how wonderful we're back home, but now we're back home it's everything back to normal.'

if numbers had turned up previously while we were at the ricoh we'd never have left in the first place!

garbage!!!

It's a known fact a successful team attracts better support. Not just in relation to Cov but every team in the country

Please expand. You honestly believe that if we had much larger crowds at the Ricoh we would have still gone to Sixfields to a smaller capacity stadium?

Very odd.

The move to Sixfields was 100% about breaking ACL.

Attendances were irrelevant IMO

Because you are in hardcore set of fans that forms the nucleus of every club.

Cov's Nucleus of 10000 is IMO really impressive considering what Cov fans have experienced over the last 15 years. However the majority of fans will attend when the club gives them something worth attending for.

That's life I am surprised quite a few don't really get that.

It happens at pretty much every club in the country.

We used to get over 20,000 almost every week at Highfield Road in the Jimmy Hill years. The 'official capacity' may have been around 25k but we had more than that many times. When we played Wolves, almost 50,000 packed in.
The stadium capacity was well over 30k from the late 60s through to going all seater the first time.

Our crowds are poor really because our support historically is pretty poor. End of. The big gates of the 60s and parts of the 70s coincided with a footballing boom from the JH years and economic boom from well paid manufacturing jobs.

Yes, 100% agree. However, some of the 'majority' you mention get arsey on these threads when they are described as shit fans. But I ask you, how else would you describe somebody who will attend if we are in the top 6 but won't if we're mid-table? I'll tell you - they're a shit fan.

They are the average fan that is in the majority at every club in the country

I wouldn't call them shit personally

Do you go to every home game and most away games? If you do you are a superfan. If not you are the shit fan that you are going on about with the way you are talking.

From a revenue perspective attendance at away games is not relevant. 90% of fans don't go to away games. 90% of our fans just do not go to games.

Some people here will have spent thousands of pounds, and followed the City for decades. But they've seen the club going steadily backwards, and had it topped off by having it moved to Northampton for over a season by its owners. Net result, they've decided to go a bit less, or maybe decided not to go at all.

How would you describe someone who accused people like this of being 'shit fans'? I'll tell you - an arsehole.

(Edit: With apologies for making it personal, but it's hard to hear this 'shit fans' stuff repeated without finally taking it personally. But if someone is going to venture the opinion that I'm a 'shit fan' for picking and choosing my games (after years, decades actually, of having an ST), then I'm going to have to give a little back. I'm leaving it at that, and using the block button so I don't have to put up with any more bullshit.)

The rhetoric may not be helpful but you have to understand the frustration.

For months there has been a bombardment of outrage that the club has been stolen from home. On return there is mass euphoria and complaints from people missing out. Missing out in what though? A sideshow, a tourist attraction?

I don't care if people don't go. Those that don't though shouldn't bleat about lack of squad investment, expect the club to attract any other interested buyers or moan if they move again. To not accept some culpability would not to me be acceptable as its part of the problem. The shameful defence of the franchise rugby club by many on here really was the icing on the cake

What's the expression? You don't know what you are missing until its gone? Most didn't miss it at all it seems.

I see your point, but I think it's putting the cart before the horse somewhat. The club has been in steady decline, and fans have drifted away. To expect them to suddenly come back in even bigger numbers because a hideous wrong was righted doesn't make sense to me. In reality, the club has to win the fans back, and not the other way around.

To use the stay-aways to justify a further decline isn't going to help at all. In fairness, I think the club accept that, I'm just amazed that some fans use it as an excuse to offer insult.

He still hasn't said that if he goes to all home games if you want to put it that way. If not how can he say that others are shit for not going?

If the club play entertaining successful football will the crowds go up?

Yes

Name me a club that has experienced 15 years of decline and their attendances did not decline?

We haven't experienced 15 years if decline so who are you talking about - we have had one relegation - no more unless I am mistaken.

You are mistaken as usual. We were a Prem side until 2001. We are now Division 3. Or did we drop two divisions in one go and ignore the other relegation?

Yes it seems you are mistaken.
In the last 15 years we have had two relegations
We have won no competition that we have competed in.
A semi final in the JPT been the closest to success.
Culminating in last season in which we finished in our lowest league position over the 15 years.
We have suffered points deductions
A move 35 miles away.

Maybe I'm the one whose mistaken and the last 15 years have actually been a steady progression?

I will make it easier for you

Name any club who have had consistent stagnation and decline for 10 years and their crowds increased or stayed the same.
