Mick Quinn: Deal with WASPS includes deal for CCFC to remain at Ricoh (8 Viewers)

A move to Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, either permanently or just for one-off games, has been heavily mooted in the press, but the club insist they are still exploring a number of options.

This was 3 days ago from the Wycombe press. If this is current news, then I feel tomorrow may just be a feeler and an in principal exercise and rather than a full blown agreement.

Guess we'd much all rather know one way or another than have it all drag out though.

Nope. They would turn a blind eye again.

God knows what the answer is! If our owners won't bid and are determined to leave then I feel we will further decline.

If we stay at the Ricoh on a rent deal there may well be no chance of any sustained future success and we'll just drift along.

We need new owners. Think we all agree on that, but Sisu are just not going to go away are they!

I'm with you on this mate - what I'd like to do is roll back the clock to where we were back at the Ricoh and ACL and SISU were (hopefully) going to start talking about what it would take to have the club buy into the stadium. I can't believe that it's gone so wrong, so fast!

For a lot of different reasons, I'd like this Wasps thing to go away pronto and get back to that place.

Do you think they would rip out the seating etc with their own? I couldn't stomach watching Coventry in a stadium that looks alien to our club. Still don't get this move. Why do wasps owners think their fans will travel 100 miles. Their attendance's could be similiar to ours at Northampton.

They would be. That's why I think that although they may intend to make this their home, they will have to water down their intentions, cos the fans simply will not show.

I think they may well have to resort to only playing some games here, otherwise they will end up with just a handful of supporters at home games.

Surely access there would be a complete nightmare! Could you imagine thousands of cars heading down there on a Saturday afternoon?

That is why a site near the town centre will never happen..

The current sensationalism is, of course, a beautiful way of softening up an unacceptable result.

European games only would be a benefit to the City of Coventry and acceptable to most, even Cov Rugby. A Wasps franchise is a no no !

European games only isn;t a benefit either.

Notwithstanding the softening up for future moving, it's still a club playing outside of their home territory when there is absolutely no need for them to do so.

By that logic we may as well move to the Butts, but play at the Madejski stadium if we get a decent cup draw.

WASP's take over CCFC, or merge.

Something like this?

Or its as it would appear...
Wasps are willing to ditch their relatively small fan base in an attempt to create greater support in a new City (which currently lacks a Prem Rugby team, but has a tradition of playing the game). Then where does it leave us? Not enough details being released to make me remotely happy with any deal. I also don't trust the Council.

CCFC should be offered the chance to buy the leasehold now before any vote.

Maybe force them at gunpoint to put in a bid?

Or, the council just say that they would rather be talking to CCFC about selling the leasehold before Wasps. We are Coventry after all.

They can do all kinds of things.

Frankly, if the profitable stadium management company ACL wanted to set up their own football team after CCFC moves to Bubbenhall, then I wouldn't be overwhelmed, but that would be fine. Likewise if they wanted to offer the ground to Cov Rugby for bigger games as the club progresses upwards, that would be fine too. They could also convert it to speedway for when the bees get evicted from Brandon...

Not much of a payout in those options though is there....

Probably a longer term payout in building something with an organic, clear identity than going for the short term boost and not caring about the long term.

Isn;t the latter approach what hedge funds do?

It would seem its only us fans that think these things are important.

Did you complain as much when Wasps or Saracens previously played their big games at the Ricoh? It would be like us playing an FA semi at Wembley or shall I say at Sheff Weds ground :) How many complained when we traveled to Sheffield for a big game not concerning a Sheffield club?

Joy has said that they are not interested in the Ricoh at all and want to build a stadium. So would you like to explain what good it would do for them to make such a comment?
