Most of their current fans seem to be saying that they won't go. So as with Northampton there'll be a nub of their current support plus whatever they can drum up locally. I'd fancy something between 3,000 to 6,000. In the Ricoh. They'll be able to have a row each.

I like rugby, but I'll never put a penny their way.

And I'm sorry for sounding horrible, but I hope there are a few more like me and that Wasps go pop in double quick time. That's what franchise clubs deserve.

Yes, I've wondered on other threads what kind of crowds they will be expected. They only get 7000 when they are 75 miles nearer to their natural fan base. MAybe they think lots of Coventrians will suddenly swell the numbers. I think they're mistaken. Not many people from Northampton went to see us at Sixfields.

I think they have decided that Wycombe is not working out compared to Leicester attendances etc
Also London land prices/ opportunities are expensive.

They must be planning to pull in local support as well based on high profile names in the team.
Love to see the business plan for this one !!
Hopefully Coventry RFC will be included.

Didn't Coventry RFC try and buy into a failing team just to get Premier League status in an instant?
Amalgamation and renaming Coventry Wasps might get the desired effect.
Sounds a bit short term but what do I know ?

I can't see the city of Coventry welcoming them with open arms due to the circumstances behind the move and Coventry doesn't seem to be a massive Rugby city anyway and not many wasps fans will follow them to the Ricoh.

They are obviously not generating much income from those sort of crowds, so where does their £20m come from. I can see no logic to this move from either side.
I always thought that SISU were bad enough but Coventrys labour councillors have managed to outdo them this time.Hope they enjoy their carribean holidays and cruises. Complete bunch of idiots.
So, where does this leave SISU ?????? Does anyone really believe they will build a new stadium???????

I imagine they would have thought this through , and are banking on future generations of rugby fans throughout the west midlands and warwickshire to start supporting them from an early age

Maybe - but the evidence of London Welsh (franchised to Oxford), and London Irish (to Reading) doesn't suggest that. Even if everyone who supported the local rugby team, CRFC, attended Wasps too (they won't), that would be the massive boost to the Wasps of around 1,000 extra fans.

Rugby, in England, other than for maybe a handful of established, historic sides, is not a particularly well-supported game - even at the top level. Wasps have already got everything going against them.

For some people today is a day to rejoice and celebrate.

SISU will finally never get there hands on the Ricoh, instead some rugby club miles away will get it.

Am I wrong in saying I hope the Wasp buy the stadium, Go bankrupt and sell the stadium off on the cheap to CCFC therefore the Coventry Tax payers not out of pocket. We could be the first to show the country that not all franchises work.

I think it is impossible to predict what interest there would be for a top-flight rugby team in Coventry. It certainly used to be a big rugby city when Cov were one of the country's top 2 or 3 teams. Coundon Road used to attract good crowds and there is still a thriving local rugby scene in the greater Coventry & Warwickshire region. Whether that would translate into interest in a top team again remains to be seen. Coventry RFC have been in decline for longer than the Sky Blues and third tier rugby is not a great product. The club seem to have been reluctant to embrace the changes and have suffered for it.

What crowds Wasps would attract is open to conjecture. It will take time, but if they are actually successful in the top flight then who knows. The sports followers of Coventry have been starved of any success for so long that they might just make a go of it. I wonder if that was part of their thinking.

I think it's quite a clever move- they are from North West London, half the population of which can be seen in convoy up the M40 on a Sunday to visit relatives in Cov. I've never seen so many cars with gold tissue box holders on the rear parcel shelf.

If anyone thinks a team can't move areas, then ask your nearest Liv/ManU/Arsenal fan why they've lived in Cov all their life, but can't support a local team...
