Ched Evans about to released from prison. Big petition up in Sheffield for him to NOT be allowed to re-sign for Sheffield United. Oddly, they had Marlon King on the books recently.
Evans maintains his innocence (unlike King) and has put his reasons why (quite eloquently tbf) on his website.
On the basis that he has been tried and found guilty, we must consider him to be so.
With our history of Marlon King (could be argued they committed vastly different offences but nonetheless), and our clear need for a decent striker, would you support him if he signed. ?
Just a question for debate - in no way am I suggesting that we should - before the abuse comes a flowing.

Just for the record, and I'm in no way excusing Marlon King. But he didn't rape anyone. You've got to draw the line somewhere, and mine appears to be there.

He should be allowed to continue in his career if the law deems him a member of the public again. I'd rather it's anywhere else though, no matter how good a player.

The other player who was there, and acted in the same way that Evans did, was acquitted. You would think they were either both guilty or both innocent.

It's a difficult one to answer, but on balance I wouldn't be outraged (todays SBT phrase) if he played for us.

Christ I remember when we were signing Marlon King and the uproar re. that so no thank you not again. But I do believe once you have paid your debt to society you should be able to continue your employment, unfortunately football is so much in the public eye a conviction such as rape is a difficult one

Yep. Could you imagine your 10 or 13 year old daughter with his name emblazoned on the backs of their shirts? Therein lies the problem. One of celebrity and hero worship.

talking to utd fans last season and they were amazed he was even charged ,let alone found guilty ,seems it was more about him going back for another go and not getting written permission .from whats been said ,the so called victim had tried the same with some rugby players but it all got thrown out .

the same lads told me that they were pissed with their chairman because city did not just say no to selling them Clarke and Wilson, but went back with a not so unrealistic fee .so all the,< they are not for sale >bull from sp and sisu last summer was actually ,they are for a certain price .the reason they were pissed was the price they came back with was not much more than the offer .the chairman is as they said a true blade ,loves the club ,but they couldn't believe he never stumped up the cash ..soory bit of thread ,but yes id give ched evans a go ,he has served his time

I know that ,it was more of the fact at the time we were being told they wernt for sale and they had turned down the interest ,if true tho and utd had gone for the fee ,imagine where we would be at present without any Clarke and Wilson goals last season

So what should we do, if not follow the law?

Vigilante justice?

Why not force all sex offenders (because sex offence is sooo much worse than other offences) to be branded so you can throw rotten fruit at them? That'd show 'em!

What exactly is "moral" about your position? It's unadulterated vengeance on your behalf and nothing more. Don't dress it up as moral superiority.

For me it's as bad as murder. No way would I ever want a convicted rapist playing for ccfc.
