It would indeed be nice to know...

FWIW I'd have thought if you did want to build 'our' stadium, you'd be better off doing something similar to what Bristol Rovers have set up with UWE.

http://www1.uwe.ac.uk/aboutus/visionandmission/uwenewcampus/uwestadium.aspx

AHH UWE .. the University I attended.

Fond memories and was at that Frenchay campus too. :)

Remember walking pass HP everyday when attending lectures. Did not know HP they closed and UWE purchased the land.

That's a large piece of land they owe on top of a hill.

How do ACL get revenue from those - I thought De Vere owned the hotel and a separate company owned the casino?

Now you are back where's my apology over the fact that I got my facts right and the fact that you telling me I always get my facts wrong and the example you gave was factually wrong by you and factually right by me.

You're connected RFC. How are they going to generate this all year round income? From the "plans" they've turned out I dont recall seeing a Hotel, Casino and exhibition hall. Surely this is what gives the Ricoh all year round income?

Nail on the head. Where is this 365 day revenue going to come from? That's my only question in all of this.

You do have to admire how RFC with a few words taken out of context and his constant "I know something you don't" continues to wind people up on this forum. He's got it down to an art form!:claping hands:

The stadium will be in Bedworth or Exhall. That way they'll just have to deal with Nuneaton and Bedworth borough council, who i know for a fact would welcome CCFC with open arms!

That's a very good concept.

It has been muted as a possible route for our Club .

There was an Article In the CT from the Uni either late last year or early in this one where they said they were looking to expand the campus with some focus on the Sporting elements ,I was dependent on attracting some Rich benfactors ,Joy knows a few with huge Status and Educational connections over the pond.

IGWE's final Speech also majored on building Partnerships with colleges and the Uni's In the area.

It would be a logical route too.

Bearing in mind even away from football, Brum uni can manage an Olympic size swimming pool (while we close ours).

Of course it still depends on owners who actually want to do it...(!)

That's the main reason I can't buy into it and therefore don't believe it. They're "trying" to sell it to us on the premise of the club needs the all year round income but haven't explained how that can be achieved. I could buy the whole we can't talk about the location because of confidentiality aspect out of respect for the land owner and I would even if pushed believe that in 18 months of negotiations no one has leaked even the smallest amount of detail. But surely in 18 months they could scrape together a simple explanation of how they're going to generate all year round 365 day income. I'm not asking for pie charts and power point presentations here just some basic details.

A link up with Warwick Uni would be good. Their business expertise valuable. They are superb at conferencing, also their students union is one of the most profitable in the country and always has been.

Not sure about the hotel, but I think the casino have bought a lease off ACL, so I think ACL have already had the money up front. Happy to be shown to be wrong though.

Though looking at that Bristol Rovers proposal, the capacity of that facility is 21,700, which is already over and above what Sisu seem to be aiming for in any new venture for us. I find that incredibly bizarre.

In the last 35 years Bristol have never ever averaged more than 10,000 fans over a season.

This is another reason why I think the Sisu plan ridiculous. We do really well and we will regularly be topping 20,000 and big matches would be approaching 30,000.

So, not only are our owners considering taking us outside Coventry, but also into a stadium that could well be too small. Now I know they spoke of expansion in the future, but why not from the offset? What's to guarantee that if we did get an 18,000 seater stadium that there would be approval and room for expansion anyway.

This is what I feel is another delusion part of their plan.

I think positive thinking and future ambition is quite key. The Bristol Rovers plan here is for a 21,700 capacity.

Look at their average attendances compared to ours.

2014 - 6,421
2013 - 6,309
2012 - 6,035
2011 - 6,253
2010 - 7,043
2009 - 7,171
2008 - 6,850
2007 - 5,476
2006 - 5,989
2005 - 7,077
2004 - 7,142
2003 - 6,934
2002 - 6,656
2001 - 7,275
2000 - 8,402
1999 - 6,263
1998 - 6,413
1997 - 5,630
1996 - etc
1995 - etc
1994 - etc
1993 - etc
1992 - etc
1991 - etc
1990 - etc

In fact since 1960 they have never averaged as much as 20,000. One season of 18,486 is the closest and that was the very early sixties.

Would say though that 21,700 makes them a forward thinking club. Us talking of a much smaller stadium, outside the city, makes us very much a club on backwards step to my mind.

I really think this is a big factor in the City faithful being against a new stadium. Think the key issues are that of how far away it will be, the fact that is a lot smaller than what we have and also the amount of money that will have to go into any new venture and that of how many years (tens of years) it will be before we turn any sort of profit at all.

Nah, 21,700 is insane.

Once it downscales inevitably however... ;)

Yes, true. Probably end up as 11,700.

21,700 is very ambitious for a club that historically is not that well followed.

I do really think City need to be looking at about 25,000. You have to think to the future. Big games will bring in big crowds.

If Sisu said they were building a stadium at Warwick Uni akin to the Bristol vision with a capacity of 25,000 I would be onboard.

I think 18,000 is a very negative approach. Unless of course they know that they are going to let the decline continue until we are non-league and then by the time we build it 18,000 will be far too big.

SISU should build there stadium. Invest in the team go hell for leather for promotion then when attendances outstrip the capacity do a swap with wasps if as people believe wasps will be struggling for attendances ;)

25k would be ideal. Keep the stands nice and close to the pitch too.

I'm in.

SW quoted in CT

Wasps talks positive but ........... all about revenue streams on none match days!

"They understand that and understand that the longer-term ambition for the football club is to be in a stadium where we access revenue 365 days a year – not on 23 or 24 days.”

Never, never, ever, ever going to happen. CCFC are a league one club with no money to buy a stadium.

I agree.

Sneaking suspicion though, that though I'm sure it is just hot air, the notion of a 18,000 seater stadium could be based on the fact they know they can get nowhere near Coventry anyway and realise that they would probably lose thousands of supporters as a result.

And after all the hard work they've put in growing the fan base that really would be a disaster ;)

It could the new model. Tesco would do well to follow

Be rude to the customers, let the stock run dry, reduce the opening hours and then move into a smaller store.

Don, I don't know how flippant your post was intended to be. But behind it there is surely a valid point.

Let’s say CCFC did build another stadium with a modest capacity, and at some stage we were successful enough to get back to the Premier League. You would now have an unsustainable situation. A Premier league football club capable of filling a 30,000 seat stadium playing at a modest ground, possibly some distance from the city. And a rugby club (with no historic link to Coventry and typical attendances of perhaps 5,000) playing at a stadium with a capacity of 32,000.

Under those circumstances, the pressure on both clubs to make a change would be irresistible I would have thought.

That is why I can’t see how investors will be attracted to funding a second substantial sports stadium in this area. To my mind, the arrival of Wasps (leaving aside the moral argument) at least opens up the chance for the Ricoh to be a major success. TWO top sports clubs playing in ONE multi-purpose stadium complex, sharing the overheads, enhancing the sponsorship potential, and each taking half of the profits from all of the activities.

If Wasps do end up with 100%, and either exploit CCFC or drive them away, everyone will be worse off. This whole mad process HAS to somehow end up with CCFC and Wasps having a half share each. If it doesn’t happen now, it’ll happen in the future.

Makes perfect sense. 50% each. We don't want Wasps here, but here they are. The common sense approach now is for a 50% share between CCFC and Wasps.

I agree that this makes perfect sense. I also think that the two clubs coming together under one company is a real possibility. It won't be with SISU however.

Imagine the scenario.....

SISU sell CCFC to someone like Haskel, Richardson can release his cash that he has tied up by selling Wasps to Haskel or by creating a partnership. New company formed with HQ as the RICOH (which has had a name change as a Global Conglomerate that already has links to the City takes it on) a new Speedway and dog track are built on the scrapyards adjacent. The people of Coventry rejoice CCFC get back to the Prem, Wasps win the European cup, Bees win the league...............

Nurse, Nurse I'm feeling strange again.......................................

Wow there are some big assumptions there, timescales how long from now until a new stadium can be built, shortest timescale 3 years, realistically 6 years. Getting to the Premier League won't happen under the SISU model until they get access to the 365 revenues so 6-10 years. Long timescales, big assumptions especially under the SISU management regime.

I was kind of more thinking we get promotion to the championship the promotion campaign and a good start in the championship leads to 18-21k fans and our demand outstrips supply
