Yes sorry put it on the led Reid thread
It only got interesting in the last ten minutes unfortunately they speeded up the questions and answers

Well, they are, aren't they?

Basically Russ from Eastern Green
In the last ten minutes accused the council of supporting franchise sport.

Unfortunately he asked the councillor a question but then decided to answer mr for him. Which was frustrating.
He twisted his answer and went off giving his own own to own question. It was annoying as this Russ seemed educated enough to actual have a good debate.
He then asked how the rugby club are to be safe guarded if they were not consulted.
He asked how the football club are safeguarded when the deal is only a 2 plus 2.

The councillor hid behind confidentiality
The ones on Twitter seem to give it loads then hide away. As if they have a set script. Like asking somebody from an Indian call centre a question they don't have written down, confuses them.

Can someone ask him if £5.5M is the price for everything in Coventry?

Ah no, they're only supporting franchise sport in rugby according to Cllr Maton. Possibly. And the future of CCFC at the Ricoh, turns out that's down to whatever deal they can do with Wasps.

Clearly the council hasn't done anything concrete to protect CCFC or CRFC, despite any risk to either club apparently being a dealbreaker. Make of it what you will.

I heard a bit at the beginning missed the middle
Then heard the last ten minutes which was a pincer attack by Russ and Pete.
Unfortunately the host was rushing all along

No they got offered

Someone wanting to commit to the Ricoh
Someone wanting to build in the city
Someone wanting to buy all of ACL for an agreed price and just doing the deal in a straight forward manner
Who were going to honour the deal the football club already had.
Who were going to bring Premiership Rugby and media exposure to Coventry.
Who present them with an opportunity to free themselves of what I imagine the worst people they have ever done business with (in their eyes)

The counter side to that they allowed franchising to happen

Surely if it is a plus they bring premiership rugby then that's franchising? Why not help our club get there?

They couldn't wriggle out of the 2+2 deal to the club anyway, it's contractual. They could've taken the SISU way and wound ACL up I suppose, but then neither they nor Higgs would make any money.

So, in terms of the council's 'deal breakers' what guarantees did they put in place to protect either CCFC or CRFC?

Did they offer the club the same deal?

Nowt by the sounds of it. As you say, the contractual obligation was there anyway, so how on earth can they say this is a good deal for Coventry City?

That's what bugs me Otis. All this time I've stuck up for the council and Higgs against SISU, I think with at least some degree of justification, and then they do this.

It's just so hasty and ill-judged.

It's like Wasps came and did a presentation to the Councillors along the lines of, we'll bring tens of thousands of fans, we'll look after the football club, and the rugby club, and we'll build a training ground etc., and the council took them at their word. You would think that after being completely mugged by SISU when they bought out the club (as I was too, in all honesty) they might have learnt something.

Anyone finding this 'c' bomb more offensive than the actual 'c' bomb when it comes to the RICOH saga? ;)

If he wouldn't answer then I would suggest the answer is clear, the sale hasn't actually happened yet. I suppose that makes sense from Wasps point of view, they probably don't want to buy the share until they know they can have 100%.

I don't get why they would do all the public unveiling and photo shoots if it hadn't gone through though.

Reminds me of the headline he's staying with Marlon king

So there are no guarantees it will help ccfc and the rugby club? Like they promised?

Did they promise that? I thought they were just making sure CCFC had the same deal the club wanted and had signed up for, and the Cov bit was more of a fingers crossed, hopefully they will be alright, may even use some of Wasps training and players.

Bit like a wedding, everyone sees the ceremony, but the actual signing may take place on a different day, or in a different country.
