No wonder nobody gives a toss any more. The slightest hint of talent in a player and Sisu sells him. It's hopeless. I know all the stuff about Sisu keeping the club going and all that but really, Coventry City has just become a zombie football club.
Has he been sold then?

When were the days when we held on to players?

Again, Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kirkland....all had at least one storming season at their previous clubs before their moves. Kirkland was keeping Hedman out of the team wasn't he? The Swedish national keeper at the time.

My point being (again) that whilst Haynes has talent, he's shown it in as many games as I have fingers on my left hand.

John Bostock played 4 games for Palace before signing for Spurs. Scott Sinclair played 2 games for Bristol Rovers before signing for Chelsea. Chris smalling played 12 games for Maidstone before signing for Fulham. There is a young lad who played less than a dozen times for mk dons last year who signed a 5 year deal at Everton.
Or am I getting mixed up with your point?

There's no way a club would take a punt on a player who has had a handful of good games and not completed their first season where they've actively been in the first team regularly (starting).

WM

Not wishing to pick holes mate but Raheem Sterling went from QPR to Liverpool before he'd even kicked a ball for them, as did Daniel Sturridge from Cov to Man City. For a club to take a punt on a player like Haynes after the potential he has shown is not unheard of.

Sturbridge went for nothing on a youth deal and sterling for £660,000 and frankly mentioning Haynes alongside those two is rather silly.

Maybe they recorded his height when he was 16 and made his first team debut and he has just shot up in the last two years?

He has a lot to prove that he can even hold his own at this level so this is all a bit silly.

I don't get what is silly,, scout's watch young players who have potential,, doesn't mean they will react it's just them following a tip or being told to go by the club they work for to see certain players.. You also have to factor in agents that will be pushing his name up to others as it brings rewards for them and the player involved.. I think it would be silly of any scout not to be keeping an eye on him, potential, with all the attributes and has shown he can make the right decision when it comes to the final ball.. This is how it works, agents, scouts, ex coaches even pundits (ex players) will all be talking to others regarding the players at clubs around the country...

You will see one this weekend that all are talking about he is a lad playing for PUFC called Marcus Maddison he was non league last year but already being tipped to go higher...

But he looks at the moment like an average young player in league one.

The Leicester fella was also there to watch Willis.
There looked to be at least 3 other scouts from unknown clubs sat within a ten seat radius of me on Tuesday.

Willis is a more likely target.

You can pick individuals out some make it some don't, most need to find the level that they can perform at to maximize earnings and career,, Willis has shown just as much in ability than Haynes and maybe in a harder position.. So i would not be shocked or surprised that both draw attention closer to transfer window, what they do after is anyone's guess but do not be fooled that clubs will not take a player due to form.. They look at attributes that will allow the players to step up a level in and around a squad,, i mean Christie was poor last season but his attributes allow him to step up.. He has found his feet as has Wilson but Bigi has struggled who would you say is the most talented out of them, its a lottery but they have the means to gamble we don't have the means to keep young prospects that is fact.....

How many 18 year old players have been signed by premier league clubs in the last two seasons?

How the fuck do i know,, but it is not about Prem clubs is it,,, any club that is higher level than the said club take young players.. L2 take non league,, L1 take Non league and L2,, champ take all the other league clubs and prem take anyone they want....They all buy or sign on potential,, as most have not played at the level they are going too,,I'm afraid you are looking at it as just Prem clubs,,which is not my point, any higher club in standard will be looking out for young gifted players..

Trust me they already know the next generation and ability of most they just wait for other clubs to develop and give a chance to before reacting, its business.. They will drop and pick up as soon as look at you, its a meat market, players know this and make the most of moves, money and careers...

Your mentioned Christie as an example though and he isn't. He was out of contract and not in demand at all. In the end he just got lucky.

Gren,, it really doesn't matter who i mentioned as that is neither here or there, some make it some don't ,, luck, fate or timing can bring an opportunity.. My point is clubs from higher levels take young players on potential alone no matter of division or standard....Young players will get noticed, be already be known or shine at certain times of the development that draws attention.. My first post on this topic state's players get the chance in different ways,, i don't disagree prem clubs don't dip a lot but they do when they see exceptional ability as do every other club in the land...

Typical Cov fans creaming themselves over a lad who can put in an ok ball. Same fans who slammed Christie last year, who is now tearing it up at Derby. Haynes still has a lot to prove. Get a grip.

So we either need to sign the players who have stepped up a division and failed miserably or look to L2 and the Conference and steal their promising players.

Sisu have no ambition of getting out of this league, the club is a like a terminally ill person being helped by a drip...
As soon as any of our players can lace their own boots they are sold.
How the hell can you build a team to climb this league and get promotion?

It's because it's so great, the way you waded in calling everyone bellends and how you 'know your shit' because he scored a goal. Brackley Town now, apparently.

Clubs sign potential now from lower leagues, long gone are the days when the likes of Kevin Keegan, Emlyn Hughes, Malcolm MacDonalds were snapped up and go straight into 1st teams and international teams. Looking at Haynes he is just that potential but worth a half million pound if we are lucky gamble.

Been told he is lined up for a move in January, is that why he is not playing a lot lately ? Would be a lot of interest, 6 foot plus, lovely left peg, good on the ball. Could be another busy Christmas for Mr Waggott

He has been playing a lot anyway for an 18 year old player

Gren,,

Every team buys potential, every signing that is a level step up is .... And notice he didn't mention prem clubs he said clubs, as in all.. They all buy on potential or promote from academies on potential. That's is what it is all about as nobody knows what players reaction is to a bigger stage.. I don't think Haynes or any other young L1 player is a cert to step up in the UK but he has potential to go higher. Will he get higher? will he make it at a higher level ? WHO KNOWS.

Scouts are watching potential then they asses the individuals attributes,,that's scouting you see potential, and decide to monitor progress, move on or react on what you see, we had this same conversation yesterday.. Just a question Gren,, have you ever worked in the business, scouted or been around a pro club, i'm just interested in where your knowledge about this comes from....
