Sorry JOB was busy but some of his crosses were awful, had a few good runs lots of effort but lackss quality at the key times. Both Madine & Nouble were fairly quiet but deliver where it matters. Finch did ok but had opportunities to shoot but wouldn't take them. Maddison will be a good player but is too lightweight he was trick at times but genuinely outmuscled and offered very little threat. After Nouble's goal the next best part was Alsopp's save - goal bound header terreffic save

Allsop 7.5 - solid, made a few good saves, even caught a few cross. Looked more confident that we've seen him
Phillips 7 worked had, played well.
Webster 7 one if his better games, covered well.
Willis 6 better than on Saturday.
Haynes 6 mixed bag. Worked hard, got into some good positions but delivery unusually a buy hit and miss
JOB 6 worked hard, some of his crossing from open play was a bit poor.
Finch 6 did ok, played better in the second half
Barton 6 good second half but sloppy in the first.
Fleck 6 continually slowed the game down unnecessarily in the first half.
Maddison 4 is much better in midfield than up top. Needs to stop diving
Madine 6 was poor in the first half, kept giving away the ball, wasn't helped by poor service. Good goal and looks like he can play with Nouble.

Subs
Nouble 8 changed the game scored a great goal and showed some arrogance
Thomas 5 ran around a bit

The midfield were shocking first half, all of them would pass then stand and admire it - a great example of this in the first half, fleck played a square pass to Haynes just on the halfway line, Haynes ran the ball up I the 18 yard box, and fleck was still stood on the half way line inline with Barton and finch who were within 10 yards of each other - Haynes had no help and no options and was completely isolated. A completely lack of movement, much better second.

Allsop was quite significantly better than what we have seen from him before.

Allsop -7 Shown why he should be number 1, not brilliant but a lot better then Burge at this moment in time
Phillips -8 Great commitment willing to take one for the team, summed him up when he went flying into the diving header on the edge of the box and won a free kick for high foot from the opposition. Great energy and enthusiasm
Webster -6 Defended well, careless distribution at times
Willis -7 One small mistake early on, was excellent otherwise
Haynes -6 Has quality, seems a bit tentative/low on confidence lately. Needs to take a leaf out of Phillips book
Fleck -7 Dominated the opposition midfield
Barton -7 Dominated the opposition midfield, worked extremely hard in terms of pressing. I still don't think the commitment is there in terms of putting his body on the line and being fully committed to the 50/50 tackles.
O'Brien -7 Led by example
Finch -7
Madine -6 The centre back will know he's been in a game after playing this guy
Maddison -6 Showed nice touches, looks to be technically sound and have great balance on the ball but didn't quite come off for him tonight

Nouble -7 Wonderful goal, came on and chased down defenders which we haven't seen much of him doing lately

Solid performance, victory was well deserved. Wasn't dynamite but you could see the players were playing for the manager and for the shirt today. If we can get Nouble fitness levels up and getting him buying into the work ethic of the team then we could have one hell of a player on our hands, we can't have a situation thought where his work rate dips as he has to lead from the front and if our strikers aren't working hard it sets the precedent for the rest of the team.

Gotta admit giving Fleck an 8 is the most generous rating I've ever seen.
Allsop - 7 looked assured, made a couple of good saves, distribution still pretty poor but one of his best games
Phillips - 6 steady if not spectacular
Webster - 6 feel harsh giving him a 6 as defensively he was sound, good in the air, but there's never been a more incompetent player with a ball at his feet. Only knows a 30 yard pitching wedge as a pass
Willis 6.5 solid and had a good partnership with Webster
Haynes 6.5 got forward well in the second half, few more risky moments defensively
O'Brien 8 MOTM - only bit of creativity we have. Always looking to do something and worked really hard. Agreed his delivery certainly wasn't at its best today
Barton 7 - made up for a pretty average first half performance with a controlling midfield display second half. Has learnt to compete in the air and not afraid of a tackle finally.
Finch 6 - grew in confidence as the game went on but plenty of slack passes. Feel with him and Barton together there is a lack of mobility in the middle of the park
Fleck 5 - much prefer him in the middle, too slow to play wide and predictable always on his left. Gave the ball away a lot & had a few defensive mistakes
Maddison 4 - not going to be harsh on the kid as he was our best player on Sunday but was bullied by the centre backs and retaliated with naive fouls and was rightly booked for a dive
Madine - got his first goal but wasn't spectacular, nouble introduction exploited his lack of movement and despite a few best touches lost the ball too often
Subs
Nouble 8 - changed the game with his positivity going forward and real energy. Made the difference
Thomas 6 - don't do anything particularly good or bad of note

Allsop 7 his best game for city, more composed.
Phillips 8 natural at his position, some nice tackles an passes MOM.
Willis 7 at home at the central position. Did well.
Webster 7 reliable does the simple things
Haynes 6 did ok, like to see him overlap more.
O'brien 6 did ok, some terrible passes at times tho
Barton 7 one of his best performances winning a few 50/50 balls. Passes need improvement at times
Finch 6 did ok, a quiet performance more off the ball running than on
Fleck 6 ok, nothing spectacular but did his bit. Like to see a few shots from him
Maddison 6 unlucky with his yellow, again showed his ability but got bullied a bit. Experience an strength will conquer that.
Madine 7 wins his headers an is a threat in the box, if we get someone playing closer to him winning the flick on's he will be really effective.

Nouble 7 chased the ball down to win the corner for the 1st goal an a powerful run for his goal. A few fancy flicks showing his ability an chased a few dead balls. Much more a threat an work rate tonight.
Thomas 5 too late to impact on the game

Allsop - 7 - The most confident, and by no coincidence, the best I have seen him play. He caught crosses, was in constant (at least more than previous games...) communication with his defenders and made a great save in the second half following a header from point blank range.
Phillips - 6.5 - Enthusiastic, hard working and committed. Epitomised by his interception in the second half in which he prevented the attacker the opportunity of a tap in following an Allsop save.
Webster - 6.5 - Solid game, no more, no less. His passing was limited, as always, but he conducted his defensive duties well. Which could be argued is the most important factor when judging a defender, especially a central defenders, performance.
Willis - 7 - Gave a performance that, in my opinion, belied his years against a physical centre forward. He was mature in his judgements; he knew when to attempt to get in front of the attacker, when to jockey etc. He also did well and showed good speed when against the other Plymouth striker. He looks stronger and more accomplished as a central defender.
Haynes - 6.5 - More solid defensive performance than he has previously produced, however it seemed to be to the detriment of his attacking ability. He manoeuvred himself into good positions but his final ball was poor.
O'Brien - 7 - He provided his usual committed, hard working, determined performance. Eager to get the ball, even coming all the way over to the left wing in the first half to do so. Made a few good attacking runs, both with and without the ball, but, as with Haynes, his crossing was poor today. Especially frustrating when we actually had a target man in attack.
Finch - 6.5 - Better performance than Saturday, he wanted and subsequently used the ball more efficiently. Broke up the play well at times, similar style of player to Thomas. Based on that performance I can see why he is now ahead of him. Need to see more of him in central midfield to form more of a long term view.
Barton - 7 - Always been a big fan of Barton for a variety of reason, which has conversely caused me to be ultra critical as I expected/expect so much more. While he was not a game changer today, and arguably never will be again, his ball retention, especially second half was fantastic. The obvious criticism is his perceived lack of effort in terms of tackling. I counted a number of times tonight where he 'stuck his foot in' hopefully that continues.
Fleck - 6.5 - Alongside Barton, he is technically our strongest player. Today, as with most games, he needs to do more. No doubt he can run games at this level, especially against lower league opposition such as tonight's, I just want to see him do it. He made no glaring errors today and his general play was fine however I sometimes get the impression the players feel they have to pass to him when we are attacking which can consequently slow any attacking momentum.
Madine - 7 - Slightly hot and cold, showed some good touches and awareness with his link up play but equally at times his touch let him down, be it his first or through taking too many. Seems committed to the cause.
Maddison - 6.5 - As with the other youngsters he is clearly committed, keen and eager to make an impression. He seems an intelligent player with the ball and has the ability to make things happen. As he grows in playing time and confidence, both of which are interlinked, I would like to see him running at defenders more than he currently does. Overall he is a bright spark in our team.

Nouble - 7 - He scored a great goal and performed some (needless) showboating, but I am not ready to hero worship, as some appear to, just yet. His off the ball work rate is poor; I counted three times in the short period he was on, in which the ball was in the wide areas and he literally jogged, showing no desire, towards the box. I have heard he has an ego, and when he's positive it's great for the team e.g. his motivational second half time team talk, but when he's down/angry/annoyed e.g. Sunday, it can potentially affect the whole team. If his fitness and/or attitude (depending on which rumours you believe) improve he will undoubtably make a difference in this league.

Such a hard one to call for me this game, because so many players were hit or miss throughout the entire match.

Allsop -7 Much more confident performance. We all know he can stop shots. It's his command of the box that has been the main issue. Last night he looked a lot more confident.

Phillips -6 Great effort and exertion from the young fullback, but guilty of some wayward distribution at times.

Webster - 6 Very solid but tends to just punt hopeless long balls to no-one when in possession.

Willis -6 Solid. Centre back seems to suit him so much more than fullback.

Haynes -6 Mismash. Some very good stuff, some godamn awful crossing.

Fleck -6 Rather too quiet at times.

Barton -6 Much better than Sunday. On Sunday I don't think he put in one single challenge. Last night he even made takles. Some of his passing was once again very poor at times, but overall, that was much more like the Adam Barton we saw a few games back.

O'Brien -6. Worked his socks off, but some very wayward distribution and a number of awful crosses that sailed straight out play from the flanks.

Finch -7 I thought he had a good solid game. Kept it simple, put in some very good tackles, worked hard and his passing was crisp and he was always looking for the ball. Based on last night I would say I prefer him to Thomas in that role, as he offers more.

Madine -6 Worked very hard and put in a tireless effort.

Maddison -5 Showed nice touches, but it didn't quite work for him last night.

Nouble -7 Looked sharp when he came on and scored an excellent goal, even though I'm not quite sure he knew what he was doing at times with that run.

Overall, not a good performance, but 10 times better than Sunday and we won. We still can't put in a performance for 90 mins though. There's always so much dark amongst the light.

Close to Otis' ratings, but some differences. (mostly Plagiarism, sorry) Agree, so many players were hit or miss throughout the entire match.

Allsop -7 Much more confident performance. We all know he can stop shots. It's his command of the box that has been the main issue. Last night he looked a lot more confident, although it's clear he has been having kicking lessons from Oggy, too many straight out of play....

Phillips -6 Great effort and exertion from the young fullback, but guilty of some wayward distribution at times. Below average first half, above average second. Shaded a 6 overall

Webster - 6 Didn't look match fit to me, and played my way of defending, get it out of danger anyway you can. Probably what we needed after Sunday to be honest

Willis -6 Solid. Centre back seems to suit him so much more than fullback.

Haynes -5 Lots of energy, but awful passing just straight out of touch or to an opposition player. Defended OK for the most part though.

Fleck -5.5 Not in the game first half, improved second. His fluffed shot in the first half was very poor. Should have been a goal.

Barton -6.5 Steady game, always there to receive a pass and used the ball sensibly most of the time. 3 stray passes at the end of the first half will be what people remember, but otherwise he was in no trouble all match. Put the effort in, and some strong tackles too.

O'Brien -6. Worked his socks off, but some very wayward distribution and a number of awful crosses that sailed straight out play from the flanks. He is still in a poor run of form, but his effort and commitment cannot be faulted.

He was knackered and had to come off.

Maddison - 4 It didn't work for him last night. He was easily managed by their centre backs, and did fall over too easily at times looking for hopeful, at best, free kicks. I thought the idea of having a good fast worker up front, who could worry their back line was a good one, but it didn't work

Nouble -7 Looked sharp when he came on and scored an excellent goal, even though I'm not quite sure he knew what he was doing at times with that run.

Thomas - not on long enough to rate really, but an extra body in midfield didn't hurt at the time.

Overall, not a good performance, but better than Sunday and we won. We still can't put in a performance for 90 mins though. (agree with Otis)

Plymouth did not play as well as Worcester, thankfully, and we did have a couple of scares in the 2nd half too. One a good save from our keeper, the other I thought was a sitter that they didn't make the most of.

An improvement, but nothing to get excited about yet.

Allsop - 6 - one good save, need to se replay though to check if he pushed it into danger zone unnecessarily though.

Phillips - 7 - worked hard and some good runs
Webster/Willis -7 - willis started shakey but did well vs a hulk like striker, webster did not put a foot wrong.
Haynes - 7 - looked bright and defended well also which was nice to see

Fleck - 7 - always looks capable to unlock defences and another hard worker
Barton - 7 - a touch of class, gets away from opponents with the slightest swivel on the spot
Finch - 6 - worked hard and distribution was better today
Job - 7 - typical JOB performance although final pass lacking in most cases last night

Maddison - 6 - ref was harsh on him. showed some good touches but never really got invovled in a meaningful way
Madine - 7 - poor first half but really improved in second, took his goal well, whens last time we scored direct from a corner?

nouble- 7 - looked dangerous, showed awesome skills, hope he stays in first team, brilliant goal
thomas 5 - not sure he made a pass or tackle but ran around alot

Allsop 8 good saves ,good handling, great composure dealing with poor back pass, couple of poor balls straight out,
Phillips -7 one of his better games
Webster -6 Defended well , distribution is still poor, but played safe
Willis -6 always prone to make a mistake ,got away with one
Haynes -5 looked better going forward than defending
Fleck -6 difficult to play his type of game on this pitch
Barton -6 worked hard.
O'Brien -6 committed worker, bit gung ho at times
Finch -6 positionally sound,
Madine -6.5 grew as the game went on,good to see someone up front who dont mind heading the ball,
Maddison -5 to lightweight for this game,on this pitch. thought he was going to get himself sent off first half. terrible miss hit for first half shot on goal

Nouble -7 good goal, think he ran from his own half,

dont want to put a damper on it,but poor first half, gave the ball away to often.first 20 we struggled, never troubled their keeper.second half was better, but once we were 1 up,sat back a bit and they could have quite easily have levelled, second goal on the break finished them off,its going to be a long season, survival is all we can hope for.

Re Webster, yes he lacks pace and can be slow on the turn, distribution can be questionable but that can be said of many good centre backs.

As someone said above he does simple things well, sometimes that is all you need from defenders. I said this last season when we were leaking goals, yes he has faults but we always look a bit more solid when he is there.

I went to the Ricoh last night as a last minute thing to see what all the fuss has been about.

Frankly they were not as bad as I thought they would be but the most disturbing for me was the midfield.
They sat too deep, lack of movement and support of the front men. Any team with a bit more about them would have over ran us easily.
Fleck was finding positions but failed to be involved in the first half. In the second period he was a changed man.

Barton at times is OK but lacks vision and is far too lethargic. Finch was neither poor but equally hardly noticeable. O'Brien works so hard and generally contributes well but teal mates often did not see his runs.
Thomas had not time to contribute but when on immediately started making forward runs unlike our midfielder's for the first 75 minutes.

Clearly Madine is not match fit, either physically or football wise, he needs games quickly. He showed enough to suggest he may be a good acquisition for this league. Maddison is a total failure. Too small to cope with big lads in defences in this league and all too easily dismissed off the ball. Hopeless waste. Nouble changed it instantly and showed he was a class above. Scored a remarkable goal and if he keeps up that attitude will do very well in this league.

Willis was competent throughout, Webster did what Webster does, gets a boot in and won every header that came his way. Phillips is lacking in forward moving abilities but seemed OK. Haynes is a real prospect but lacked support when he did forage forward. His crossing was a bit wayward though and he strikes me as slightly lethargic at times. Needs a real coaching lesson on how to become a great player with the attributes he already clearly possesses. Coaches need to let him loose and not tie him to defensive duty so much. At times when free out wide he was not given the ball. We played through the middle too much last night.
Allsop seemed confident but his distribution is poor and not quick enough. O'Brien was screaming at him for not seeing him when obvious for example.
Personally Barton, Finch, Maddison would be dropped next game for me. Nouble would start with Madine up front. And please stop dropping so deep and play with a bit more width.
