Steven Pressley is confident that he can keep Gary Madine for another month with a view to trying to sign the striker on a permanent deal in the January transfer window.
The City boss has spoken to the player and his parent club Sheffield Wednesday and both appear ready to agree to extending the deal ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
“The priority is extending Gary’s loan which we think we should do,” said the Sky Blues manager of the centre-forward whose initial loan agreement runs out after Saturday’s Ricoh Arena clash with Walsall.
“He seems very happy here and Sheffield seem very open to extending his stay here. We’ve spoken to him about it and he very much wants to stay so if we can get an extension on that it will be a real lift for us.

“We’d obviously like to get that sorted this week and that would take us to the New Year, which would be great because I think he’s made a real impact at the club and is getting stronger all the time.”
The 24-year-old has scored two goals and had a hand in two more in his four games for Coventry to date and is the link man Pressley has been searching for since the departure of Leon Clarke – who, interestingly, has been made available by Wolves for loan this week – almost 12 months ago.
Asked about the longer term prospects of keeping Madine, who is out of contract at Hillsborough in the summer, Pressley said: “I think that’s something we have got to consider because we have been searching for some time for a Gary Madine-type striker and they don’t come available too often, and he very much fits what we’re looking for. So that will definitely be a consideration for us.
“He’s settled into the group very well and the supporters have taken to him. I think supporters like to identify themselves with a very tradition British No.9 and he very much is that, so it would be great if we could extend his loan and then, on the back of that, try to retain him here.”
Although he’s had his problems off the pitch, Pressley has no doubts about his character and attitude at training, insisting he’s a model professional.“He’s always staying behind to do extra work after training and if there’s nothing set up he’ll do it himself.”

I'll be really chuffed if we sign up Madine. What will be interesting - if we do sign him - is how long his contract is; please 2 year plus, not this daft 'til end of season' contract.

I got him on my away shirt too

I feel your pain.... Jackson on the home shirt! 1st time I've gone for a name on my shirt since Thommo did me over and fucked off to Blackburn 2 weeks into the season.

I did actually ask for my own name on the back but apparently they had run out of 'R's' so made a hasty choice. Saying that, wouldn't have mattered who I'd chosen; Pressley either falls out with them or decides that they haven't got the Coventry way DNA after 2 months anyway.

I think Madine will stay with us, he seems to love the Club and the fans and Madine seems to be popular with the fans and the Club, also taking into consideration that Sheffield Wednesday don't give two hoots means good deal all round..

Now that's sorted can we please get down to discussing have Chris Maguire come back please

His criminal record worries me.. can't deny that he is a very good striker for this league, but will he keep out of trouble?

I hope, for his sake he keeps his nose clean, but at the end of the day it is a risk to hire him.

I'd rather we got the more skilful Nouble In TBF.

Madine is a 20-goal a season striker at this level. Nouble isn't. Still say our top priority is a decent goalkeeper.

I would sign Madine over Nouble every time he is more likely to get you a goal and works the defenders much harder.

Not had a name on a shirt since this fine run

Dublin signed for Villa
Boateng signed for Villa
Hadji signed for Villa
Lee Hughes say no more on this one

Was thinking with my record might get Webster,Clarke,Burge,Alsopp or Tudgay put on the back of one or even Pressley

You would take Heskey at the drop of a hat. Wouldn't do it in the Premier, but would in the Championship

No he wouldn't.

He scored 1 goal in 19 appearances in a pub league last year

league two might be about his level these days.

http://ccfctv.co.uk/2014/11/26/extension-reportedly-agreed-to-madine-loan/?

An extension has reportedly been agreed between Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City to Gary Madine’s loan at The Sky Blues.

Madine rejoined The Sky Blues for a second spell on an initial one month loan and has gone on to score two goals in four appearances, with the initial loan to end after Saturday’s game with Walsall. However, earlier this week, speaking to The Coventry Telegraph, City manager Steven Pressley revealed he was working on an extension ahead of tomorrow’s 5pm loan deadline with the player keen to stay at the club.It is now being reported that a deal has been struck for Madine to remain with The Sky Blues for a further month, however Wednesday have reportedly added a 24 hour recall clause into the deal.Madine, who is out of contract with The Owls next summer, has previously hinted that he would be willing to join The Sky Blues permanently upon the end of his current deal, with Pressley also interested in signing the former Carlisle United man on a longer deal.

Taking Madine on a perm would worry me; I'd probably take the risk but on a contract till the summer if possible. Look at his history, both off field and on, he's an extremely volatile character.
