Baker exit -football reasons or wages? (5 Viewers)

Both IMO.

If you were paying someone that much, you'd use them and put them in the shop window, not "bomb squad" them.

SP was told get rid cus of wages, but also CB didn't fit "The Coventry Way".

All IMO of course.

Who knows.

I'd take him back tomorrow. Whatever we've saved in wages we've lost in points and if we end up getting relegated it could end up being a very expensive mistake. I would doubt it was the managers decision ultimately as well.

My opinion. Solely wages. Pressley couldn't get enough of him last year and praised him every game in some form to over the summer he "doesn't for the Coventry way" I mean is this for real? But Marcus tudgay a completely hopeless player for us fits in perfectly.

It's quite obvious he was told to get rid of him as it seems everyone knew he was the biggest earner at the club and sometimes life is that simple.

The way it happened it has to be money. I know SP seems to fall out with a lot of players and make some strange signings but even he can't think that Baker is worse than every player in our current squad. Then the question becomes what happens to that money, was is SP's choice as he thought Bakers wages could be better spent or was it because he had his player budget cut?

I ask myself if there is a basic lack of honesty in a lot of statements coming from the club?

This little side show just adds fuel to the fire.

Who gives a shit about Baker. He's very average and he's not here anymore.

I agree Mark but he was one of the better players in our team in the summer if not the best player. I guess money talks.

I think his decision to bring in O'Brien and make him his number 1 midfielder/wide man ahead of Baker was a football decision. I'm yet to be convinced myself that O'Brien is better than Baker but in Pressleys mind he was/is. Then you've got you're top earner sitting on the bench and Pressley thinks his wages can be better spent improving the first 11 on the pitch, we can't have our top earner sitting on the bench at the expense of other areas of the first 11.

So a little of both

Both come into it.

But aren't some of the new signings on more then he was on he did take a pay cut I believe?

Shame really never mind what sort of player you think he was he wanted to play for the Club .

That alone makes him worth more then any of the replacements we got in. IMO

I'd have thought we would have had to pay him out of his contract, or at least come to a deal on how much to pay, so it's possible that the wages saved would not be that great.

So I think mainly football reasons as stated by Pressley, although I also think as we wouldn't have saved very much, we should have kept him.

I would doubt any of the new signings are on as much as baker was on here.

It is mostly money but also football he really was not that good and still isn't really!!
Even MK Dons boss confessed he was "expensive" in terms of wages!!

O'Brien is quite similar to Baker, in particular with his moaning and his poor decision making. Similar work rate too. It's a shame he doesn't have the goals and assists to his game that Baker did.

Baker said something and SP had a tantrum. SP seems to fall out with players very easily and not always for football reasons.

If Baker was very average for us! What does that say about the players who've replaced him, Ask yourself the question........
"Are we Better or are we worse" since his departure.

Since Clarke left in January results are about the same with or without baker.

So how much was Baker on?

According to the article in the daily mail (yes probably BS, but the only thing we can find that with reference to his wages) £8k per week. Given he was signed whilst we were in the championship, and signed an improved extension whilst we were in the championship and given our wage bill had been significantly reduced you'd have to assume that new signings won't be getting paid anywhere near as much as we paid in the championship.

Apparently Baker was MOTM last night for MK Dons, second game in a row. Given they're 4th and we're 18th and since he's come into their side he's played 3, scored 2 and been man of the match twice I think there's a chance he's better than some of the players we have here now!

It's not fun for me at work, I have several Bournemouth supporters that keep on at me about why we let Wilson go so easily and cheaply and now I'm getting the MK Dons supporters banging on about how well Baker is playing and why did we let him leave!

What was the form like last season post December with him in the team?

Agreed. Doubt it was anywhere near 8k, but even half that is surely head and shoulders above what the current lot are on.

Quick look at Soccerbase tells me he played in 21 games (16 starts, 5 sub appearances) and we won 4 drew 6 and lost 11 with Baker scoring 4 goals.

Personally I would have Murphy, Moussa, Baker and Wilson all back in our side if we could so I guess our opinions differ.

Is this a fair comparison? Aren't we always crap post December, no matter who is in the team? ;)
