Look lets get this straight. Any new tin pot stadium built by our owners would NEVER be able to compete with the Ricoh and the NEC for business.

Why?

Will it be built? I don't know but believe it will, still plenty of activity behind the scenes and a few high profile people beavering away.

Is it feasible? Most definitely yes, as I'd anticipate AEG being involved to manage & maximise revenue streams.

The Ricoh has never been home we have only ever been and would continue to be tenants and the match day experience is only going to get worse, especially when the rugby starts.

As for the pitch it currently has to be one of the worst in the football league (not that it would bother either CCC or ACL) and one things for sure, it's only going to get worse!

I think an announcement regarding land might just be closer than many think, fingers crossed PUSB!

There you go again RFC intimating that you know more than us.......but you don't.

So you're saying that the Ricoh would go for a different type of exhibition to the NEC... but a rival would be forced to position itself in exactly the same way to the Ricoh...?

No. The NEC will get National Exhibitions like the Motor show/Caravan Show, the Ricoh will get Regional Events like Wedding Show/Insomnia and the Timpot Stadium will get the Sisu/Otium AGM.

Just how plausible is it? When I visit the Ricoh as yesterday I walk around to the entry turnstile and think to myself wow, how did we lose this asset? It's been a shambles. But there may be ways forward. Personally I'd like the stadium used for many sports including Speedway even. That was never grasped by the encumbered ACL. Bums on seats was the name of the game. I doubt WASP will ever produce more than several thousand fans in there ever. Yesterday our so called club in decline still managed over 8k fans and if the club reach back into the prem 25k+ would be common.

So WASP have a true incentive to look at CCFC as a long standing tenant. The football club are better off now than when they left for Sixfileds as it happens, at least for the next few years.

The long term they are either bought out by WASP which seems an obvious idea for me or they branch away and build this modular stadium designed to increase capacity as needed. Again how truly plausible is it?
Would developers pay for it? Would SISU/Arvo/Otium or whichever division hold that mortgage or the football club?

Would there be large development around the stadium such as Tesco, restaurants etc? And how would such a stadium compete with the Ricoh or would it seriously affect WASP running of the Ricoh?

It's an interest conundrum but for some to suggest another stadium is pure fantasy may not be correct.

£50 million to retrieve
How does building the new stadium retrieve it?

So you claim people don't come up with ideas that stack up financially, then call them WUMs...

I answered why it didn't work financially instead of responding to that you are taking this route, you've posted many times before tongue in cheek as some obscure way of making a point, when you do that you have to expect that people won't be sure in future if you are doing that again or are serious, especially when your idea is well lets be generous and call it unique.

Instead of being intentionally mischievous lets see you actually defend your idea and explain how it could work.

Coventry have just won the Premier League on Football Manager. Right now onto Sim City to see whether the new stadium happened.

There's every reason to debate this. Why can't a rival compete for business with the Ricoh?

They can, Thats what I said, there is no point debating it because we can just assume that you are right and it doesnt change the fact that the new stadium still wouldn't be viable.

Why would AEG be interested in a stadium bowl - with no exhibition, hotel, etc. facilities - outside a medium sized English city, most likely without a direct rail link? The only announcement that I see coming is: we have done a deal with Wasps which is in the best interests of CCFC - and dropped the stadium. Thank you for all your support.

The question is: at what point is more economic to cash in and get say 10m ( just a figure ) and then use this to invest in something that will bring a profit, rather than plod along with a mediocre 3 division football team which brings in just enough to cover investors interest at best and at worst loses more money. Maybe ask Wasps if they have Investors who want to make an offer - just to test the water?

Can you put some figures together to show how it could be achieved ?
I understand the problems with the Ricoh, I understand it's not worth £24M (ACL £10M + Loan £14M) so £25M gets us what sort of stadium and how is it financed ?

The problem is in certain areas though.

For a start, you have to beat whatever you get for flogging what ssets (ha!) are left at the club.

Then you have to offer a figure to outnumber the wider benefits. SISU's entire strategy is a no compromise, don't back down until they get something they want (even if not what originally asked for). They need enough of a financial incentive to ensure the conclusion to this doesn't affect what happens elsewhere in their portfolio. It's probably worth their while winding CCFC up at that stage, to demonstrate that when they play hardball they mean it...

On the question of the pitch, have Wasps not said that they intend to invest in it during the summer?

you posted that last time you were unable to debate. You keep saying I don't listen to what you say but you never actually say it. You havn't demonstrated how the new stadium could work financially, let alone how it would be better than buying the Ricoh for even double what wasps paid.

I've posted the giant flaws in your plan, why not try and defend it?

For the same reason SISU cant build a succesful football team or a succesful legal team. They're fucking idiots.

The fact that SISU are involved is enough. Its doomed at conception, SISU are in its DNA.

tbf, that is undoubtedly the best reason!

One could say, however, that whatever they decide to do will fail. So in which case, best to campaign for what gives the club the best chance of success once they do complete said failure.

To my mind, having a (sane!) site for a new stadium with (sane!) planning permission in place, and a commitment from the local council to get behind it gives the club the best chance of building, once we get our altruistic competent consortium coming along post-SISU.

Locking CCFC in to a 150 year deal in a ground that isn't theirs dilutes what little DNA is left still further, to my mind. So... I'd rather an extended deal for 10 years at the Ricoh to let the charade play out, and then get to planning properly... unencumbered by the negative history.

NW, based on what we all know about sisu, and the last 7 years under their management, what evidence is there that they are capable of creating a profit making stadium? Everything they attempt they fail at.

They have even admitted themselves that they make investments into areas of which they know almost nothing. They had no experience of running a football club, and they have no experience of building stadiums.

You don't debate, you're too closed minded for that.

You are on the wind up for sure, I've posted why I think your idea won't work and asked you to defend it 3 times now, each time you take a tiny part of my post, delete the rest of it and say I'm closed minded, I've asked you multiple times to explain how it would work, after 3 attempts I have to come to the conclusion you are incapable of it. Anyway off to do something more sensible than attempt to have a discussion with someone who is incapable of it.

I'm not the one suggesting I know anymore than yourself or anyone else for that matter, however you are!

I know what I know (and believe) however you are more than welcome to believe whatever you like and I'm not attempting to influence you one way or the other, just stating my HO.

But the Council/ACL decided in their wisdom to do a deal for the 250 year lease behind SISU's and therefore the communities football club with an out of town Rugby club, not to mention the community already had a Rugby club as well.
SISU were not offered first bite of that cherry or even given a clue a 250 year lease was available for peanuts were they?

There may be bad blood with SISU but for the council to offer such a lease at such a price to some one other than the football club was bizarre and wrong on every level.

Tell me if that deal was offered to SISU's Joy do you believe she would have said no? I hate bloody SISU but for the council to do this was short sighted. The football clubs owners will change hands at some point. They even could have had a clause to ensure the stadium remained within CCFC while at the same time allowing SISU an assignable lease with value in order for them to make good on their disastrous tenure and leave. Council nit wits are clueless!

You are on the wind up for sure.

Whenever people post things you don't like, they're on the windup.

Then you come on threads and say nobody ever comes up with alternative scenarios:facepalm:

Are you *sure* you haven't been a CCFC board member at some point?

Yes he beat me to it! Pretty much the same question.

And turning around, would you trust SISU to be capable of negotiating a long term deal that worked for us at the Ricoh?

The previous lot didn't manage it, and look how that turned out...

I'd rather any future (sane!) owner or (sane!) revivalist club had the flexibility to make the best choice, rather than be tied into something that handicaps them from the start. That means being open-minded to the idea of a new ground, as it could well be the best way forward post-SISU (surely extra leisure facilities in Coventry is a good thing! Why wouldn't we be happy to push for that?)

Otherwise, we'd best start hoping we become Villa's feeder club...

I'd go for a ten year deal at the Ricoh while SISU are still here too. Gives some stability and the next owners something to build from.
