City Boss Feels His Side Have Too Many Players On Loan

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that the Sky Blues have too many players on loan.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Pressley, who has never been a fan of the loan system said: "It would be good to get a better balance. We had a situation at the weekend where John McQuid could not be involved because you are only allowed five loan players in a match day squad and I don't think that is an ideal scenario.

"Of course, we have to use the loan system but it needs to be balanced more because we have too many loans at the moment."

John McQuid probably couldn't play as he isn't registered?
I hope that isn't a copy and paste from their site.

So what's the answer SP?

Surely he could have signed more permanent players than loans if he disliked the loan system that much.

I do agree you should only have 2-3 loan players, not 6+

The answer is probably stop signing old strikers on probably decent wages and get a midfielder that we need.

I'm not sure if you recall me posting about Baker when there was talk of him going.

I said use his 8k to get 4 decent, 21-28 year olds in on 2k.

or negotiate a reduced contract with him and use the saved money to invest in 2 decent, 21-28 year olds in on 2k

Is this a hint that our supposed 7 signings in January are going to be mostly permanent or at least that's just what Pressley wants them to be?

Make or break transfer window for me. It will be his 4th window, 4th opportunity to get the recruitment right. If are still where we are at the end of the season, he hasn't got a lleg to stand on and he'll surely have to go.

It's a sad fact of life (or football at least) that quite a few clubs in the bottom 2 tiers would probably fold without the loan system.

Has it happened without him noticing? FFS!

We have too many sub standard players, never mind loans players who care not one bit if we win lose or draw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This squad is weak has been from day 1 of the season and if SP is now saying he needs big changes that should be the end of the debate to those who thing this squad can compete in the play off places in this league.

You are making the assumption that the wages budget includes the whole of the 8K that was possibly saved..

We need a permanent experienced goalkeeper. LB as back up.
If JC was due to his attitude then fair enough. However if it is ability. He should be back competing with AP for right back. Not CB or RWB. A right back where he is decent for league one.
CB should be RJ, AM, AW, SH (.when returns)
LB should be RH and a new permanent signing after releasing DP.
RM should be two new signings wingers with pace.
A tough DMC should be signed to compete with CT.
JOB and JF compete for the other CM position.
One left winger should be signed to compete with DS.
GM, JM and two new strikers should compete for the forward positions Another big man and a pacy striker.

Wages should be gained from
DP
MT
SJ
FN
AB
RA

the two assumptions i can make are.....

1) he wanted to stay
2) his wages at MK are a lot less than here

He was never likely to be on £8K.

Didn't Seppalla come up after relegation and Instigate new deals for everyone ?

My guess Is he'd have signed for £2-3K over two years .

We must have 3-4 summer signings on that or more .

we have too many loans, we have too much shit more like his record with loans and permanent is quite frankly a fucking disgrace and along with playing that shit in a formation which was never gonna work for most of the season is more than enough to be gone, would not trust him to spend any money if we had it either

I think Pressley's statement to Andy Turner should said to Steve Waggott it is he who dictates club policy regards player recruitment. Perhaps Turner should ask him.

I would certainly hope so.....

Although there is a certain consistency in the rather scattergun approach to signings, and the approach of players with some kind of prior rep, but flawed (see Fleck, Barton, Jackson). And that approach has been fairly consistent across managers, while Waggott has been here.

Not defending Pressley, as ultimately the manager should either have the final say, or demand he has the final say but... is the transfer policy dictated to him, about the *type* of player we go for?
