Given how it sounded like we were playing and the fact we were behind I guess we'll take a point but we really should be winning games like this at home.

Crewe beat Bristol City today mate...there's no such thing as games we should be winning in League One.

I see you're in Southsea, just down the road from me!

1-1 fleetwood have the second best defensive record in the league, we don't keep cleansheets or win without Reda Johnson.

1-0 win against another average team (despite OptaStupots stat attack).

The sort of team we must be beating with the squad we have.

Best defensive record in the league with that back four again highlights the shocking standard of this division

Stupot wins ;)

Can't wait to hear pressley say how commited we were and we deserved to win and how crap the ref was blah blah blah

Pressley is a lot happier than I am.

Don't think we were as good as the post match comments suggest.

Fleetwood weren't great as a whole or offensively, but I can see why they don't leak goals. 9 men + GK back a lot of the time.

Too many misplaced passes over the 90, and too many sideways passes through midfield.

Madine isolated up front until Jackson was introduced. Question has to be asked why he can come on and go straight up front to join Madine yet for the 70 or so minutes prior to his introduction we persisted with one up top? Couldn't Mcquoid have started there?

Happy as I can be with a point, but far too many negatives for my liking

Bang on. Also we only became threatening when we went more direct.

Pressley says he want more goals from midfield....how the hell is that going to happen when none of them show any desire to get in the box and your 2 central midfields are that deep they're virtually playing as centre halves.

The Linnell and the recent caller seem to forget we probably should have been 3-0 down at half time. We can't keep playing for 45 mins a game. I'm not happy and the stupid bloody wasps advert and linnell cooing over them isn't helping either. I need a beer and quick.

I think if he had made that change a lot sooner we would have won.

After the first 30 minutes we dominated the ball but rarely looked like scoring, players still look devoid of an confidence despite an okish run in the league going at the moment

And that's a worry, can have as much possession over 90 minutes as you like but it doesn't win you games. And in our case doesn't mean we'll get near the opposing teams box often enough

We just don't have the attacking players to turn possession into chances, we need nimble, speedy fleet footed players in the final third who can skip past a challenge and play 1-2s on the edge of the opponent area and we don't have these players. Swanson and maybe Maddison have shown flashes of it but not consistently enough and neither of them are exactly first team regulars.

I'd say it was the other way around - maddison and maybe swanson. In fact maddison seems to be the only player we have confident enough, and technicalmy good enough to want and play the ball in tight areas. He won all 3 of those freekicks we got around the penalty box with his nimble and quick feet.

We also lack midfielders with the desire to run behind the striker or try to get in the box. The amount of times we got the ball wide and just madine was in the box.

Maybe so, but Maddison is only going to be used sparingly anyway, players like Mcquoid, O'Brien and Madine just don't have the right attributes to break down the opposition when we play so slow and possession orientated. They just end up lobbing in a cross to one man in the area which is bread and butter for a lot of defences or go backwards. We need players who can play quick pass and move in a tight area in the attacking third to create openings.

How many times do reach the byline in a game or get in behind a defence, probably once or twice at most

Very rarely. And some of that is down to philosophy and some of that is down to having 2 central midfielders who want to play backwards and sideways and stand 10 yards in front of the back 4.

Non of our midfielders have any desire to break into the box and play around and off madine.

Entirely agree with all of that Stu-only it was a nice warm cup of tea and a fag that I needed :)

It was my first game in the flesh this season and I was shocked by the lack of tempo and attacking runs. It's all well and good keeping posession (and we had around 60% of it today according to the BBC) but passing it around in front of your own area holds no threat to the opposition-and we gave it away in dangerous positions what must have been, what, a dozen or so times today?

Being more "direct" doesn't mean turning into Wimbledon of the 1980's, it just means being capable of playing longer passes and breaking with some notion of intent, and to have men gamble by running beyond the opposition. Like we did with most of our goals last season and we at last started to do towards the end today. I was sat behind the goal and it was amazing to contrast the difference in terms of attacking bodies in the box in each half; Fleetwood would always have men in there, we generally only had Madine until Jackson came on-which immediately changed things!

Will Pressley learn from this, play 2 up, and change the style of play to something more akin to what we saw in the last 20 minutes? I wouldn't bet on it :(

Bang on again. Maddison was a different class, an absolute breath of fresh air, putting senior pro's with supposed passing ability to shame and showing genuine creativity. I particularly love the ball he won by darting from behind the Fleetwood player-he had no right to steal it there-and then throwing himself to the ground for the FK :)

I've been to a couple of games at the Ricoh now and each time I have seen the same frustrating midfield players waste the ball. Barton and Fleck are the main culprits. Both are not good enough.
O'Brien was the only one who tried so hard throughout the 90 minutes. His energy is a credit to him. he looks as though he is running around everywhere or is that because the other lazy buggers are static around him?
Until we sought out a decent couple of midfielders with at least one who can control the game more and one who can get in the box and support the front guys then we will keep being frustrated.
The back is better than it was and with Haynes back there (who was man if the match) and the loanee, Pendelton we look reasonably tight. Allsop I think is gaining in confidence too.
Madine tried his best all 90 minutes but really needs support coming through quicker. Him, Haynes, Webster, O'Brien, Allsop were the only ones who seemed to want it. That McQuoid guy was so poor. Maddison is not ready for me, Swanson ineffective and it was not until we woke up in the second half we ever looked like getting something.

I don't understand SP selections, we have better on the bench. Is Maddison better than Nouble? Would Nouble and Madine been a better starting line up?
I think we are throwing games away. As the second half showed we are better than that.

My main question is why can't the manager motivate these players from the get go instead of half time? We assisted Fleetwood in looking good for 35 minutes.
