If you just consider there track record prior to joining us in the summer, I would say a lot.
If you consider there time in the last few months here, I would say a few/some.

But that's kind of my point... They are all better players than their time here suggests... so what could be wrong?

they can have nouble his a waste of space sooner he goes back to ipswich the better, madine and jackson is our best chance at any kind of scoring partnership but with madine gone in jan we will be searching again.
madine less than 1 goal every 3 games in league one + several assault convictions + jail time. Basically had 1 really good season with a promoted Sheffield Wednesday. played at the level above but less than 1 goal every 10 games.
jackson played in the premiership but also has only scored 8 goals over the last 4 seasons in the league
Tudgay played alot at the level above but only scored 10 goals over the last 4 seasons in the league and hardly played the last couple of years.
Nouble played at a higher level but at league 1 level and above has only scored a total of 10 goals in the league at a ratio of 1 goal every 11 games.
While there were reasons to be optimistic about these players they were all still gambles and these for the most part were the best of our signings (with a couple of exceptions like Obrian)

Not all of them. All of them have a checkered recent record: previous 2 seasons.
Jackson - 3 goals in 61 games. Last time scored 15+ 2009/10
Tudguy - 5 in 23 game - 23 appearances in 2 seasons!!!. Last time scored 15+: never
Nouble - 7 in 63 games. Last time scored 15+: never
Madine - 6 in 42 games. Last time scored 15+: 2011/12.
We can argue about what league's they have been playing but the fact is none of them have been prolific for the last few years and with the except of madine non have really proven to be a reliable goalscorer in the recent past.
I think we've been fooled by DMC's amazing form, that when a we sign someone we've actually heard (e.g Tudguy) we automatically think they will do a DMC.....his form (pretty much 1 in 2 in the championship) has proved that he was a class above. I don't see that from any of our strikers.

Well they wouldn't be here in the first place if they'd been smashin it elsewhere right? At the start of the season most L1 managers would have taken any of them and for me, most would have dragged a lot more out of them.

Very difficult to be too critical of the strikers when we dont create chances. Midfield is the problem. I want an overhaul in Jan with only O'Brien out of the current lot still here. Fleck, Barton, Thomas are too content to just move the ball sideways. None can protect the back four or are prepared to get up to support the strikers.
which is the reason you can't write off players without seeing them play because of previous spotty records. But these are players with spotty records who have not done well with us, it doesn't follow that most L1 teams would want them. Had Mcgoldrick scored just once or twice with us, we wouldn't have been assuming it was the manager not getting the best out of the player we'd have assumed it's because we'd signed a striker who has a spotty record.

How many teams in L1 can go out and sign a player who had scored 15+ goals the previous season, other than Bristol and Agard I can't think of many others.
Just thinking of all the L1 strikers at the top of the charts
Joe Garner 1 goal in 24 appearances the season before he joined Preston
Benik Afobe 13 goals in the previous 4 season before joining MK, has 19 for the season in all comps now
Jonathan Forte 13 goals in the previous 4 season, 13 for the season now
Andy Williams no goals last season, 12 the season before. 12 for the current season so far
Eoin Doyle 13 goals in L2 last season, 19 for the season now
Aaron Wilbraham 7 goals in the last 4 seasons, 13 for the current season
Tom Bradsahw 17 goals over last 5 seasons, 11 for the current season

There is a big drop from 15+ to
Tudgay 2 goals in the league last season.
Nouble 2 goals in the league last season
Jackson 2 goals in the league last season
madine 2 goals in the least last season.
So that is 4 strikers who last season scored less between them than a midfielder that we paid someone to take off our hands. edit sorry mistaken baker scored 7 last season in the league, it was the previous season he scored 12,

Is there any relationship here to the style of play /Tactics employed that boosts their performance ?
Sorry Samo going to slightly off topic here but just read the Article that It's the finishing and his comments about January are sounding less buoyant .
He's emphasising the need for speed and wide players yet we didn't sign Marshal and turned down Petrasso ??
Madine and Tudgay both prefer playing with a striker next to them and had their best seasons at previous clubs doing just that, saying that so did Jackson.
We have not played two up top enough.
We never signed Marshall or Petresso was we was not in the market for that type of player at the time as Pressley thought he was Van Gaal and we was Holland.
Much needed width and pace needed in Jan, but SISU taking CCC to court again has probably put any budget down the pan for January.

I think it's just having a striker willing to work off him, and run in behind. I'm sure he and mcqoid may have worked ok together if he'd not played him left wing, as would shaun Miller.

to be fair clarke had already scored 11 goals in 15 games (2 of which were against us) that season while on loan at scunthorpe

True, although clarke record in this league was already excellent before he came here, was second in the scoring charts behind DMC, and was signed as a proven goalscorer. DMC did score 14 one season in the championship, but I suppose that's my point. People have heard of Tudguy, have heard of Jackson, have semi heard of Nouble and think "look if DMC can do it, they should do it". DMC was a cut well above all the strikers we currently have, which is proven by his continued success after leaving us.
Just because you've heard of someone doesn't make them good, and doesn't mean that every other club in this league would want to sign them.

Some great examples - you wouldn't have expected many if any of these to score so many purely on the basis you've not really heard of them. Yet Tudguy we've heard of, he should be scoring 20+ goals in this league, because I've heard of him, he must be quality. (Yes I fell into that trap in the summer).
Out of all of our strikers, the only one I would say 90% of the clubs in our league would give their right arm for is Madine.

I think it's just about finding the right fit for the right club, some players just don't click at certain clubs and do at others.

Yep definitely, that's always tricky. I do think Pressley got a bit dazzled by names rather than looking for players that got with the way he wants to play. He's woeful at signing strikers, however in Madine (please signing him up) he looks like someone we can play off and can fill a bit of the void left by Clarke. We just need someone to play up with him. I'd like to see a bit more of Miller.

It is a shame these players don't seem to be able to run around on the pitch with endeavour and enthusiasm, draw off their own experiences as professional and amateur footballers in order to shape their own destiny and ours.
I don't think Pressley is great but I think his effort and passion is greater than some you have mentioned. I bet Pressley has never restricted them to two shots. In my experience of playing football no manager could!

But we've had good strikers with great scoring records, Juketewitz, McGoldrick, McDonald, Clarke, Wilson. And we sold them all.
You need to understand that we don't buy good strikers, we sell them.
We are never going to buy a top striker, we may develop one or happen on one by pure chance, but we will never buy one.

I did to be fair when he got that run of games and was banging goals in, and his hat trick at the Ricoh was quite entertaining.
I agree not many goals are scored when you dont have possession, not many are scored either when all the possession you have is in your own half
