"We won't be able to spend transfer fees but we'll wheel and deal. I've made decisions on loan players." - Coventry City's Steven Pressley

The City boss has stated the club will have to be 'creative' in the transfer market in January to bring in the 'right players'...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has admitted he has made his mind up about the loan players who are due to return to their parent clubs in January.

City have seven players; Seb Hines, Aaron Martin, Matthew Pennington, Ryan Allsop, Josh McQuoid, Gary Madine and Frank Nouble set to return to their parent clubs next month.

The Sky Blues also admitted there are players available for transfer in January which will open up the opportunity to 'wheel and deal'.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw against Chesterfield, Pressley said: "We won't be able to spend money on transfer fees but we'll wheel and deal.

"We'll have to be very creative in the market to bring in what we need."

What is that meant to mean, are they going to magic up a player, why doesn't he come clean and say what he means, he has got to trade off wages from players he don't need to free up wages for someone he wants to bring in or keep past Jan.

Translation: They are going to plant a garden in the back of the Ricoh and pay the new players with vegetables.

Yeah must have been Joy signing Tudgay, probably fancies him or something.

Short memory, lots of people on here thought he was a great signing and would get loads of goals at this level. Mind you some were convinced Slager would score on his debut, despite knowing Jack about him.

So Pressley has no transfer kitty for January according to him on CWR.
This will in affect keep him in his job as no new manager will come here without transfer funds.
He will be shipping out players though he said..looks like its going to be a long hard slog until the end of the season to avoid the drop

i haven't read all replys to this thread so it may have been said before, would you trust him with any money after seeing what the brought in

Waggott: We Want To Bring Players In

By Covsupport News Service
Updated Monday, 22nd December 2014

Coventry City CEO Steve Waggott has said that the club want to bring in players when the January transfer window opens.

Writing in his programme notes for City's game versus Fleetwood Town, Mr Waggott wrote: "We are not looking to make excuses but the recruitment drive in the summer was based on another season away from the city and the cost restraints that brought. Some of the players we brought into the squad have undoubtedly strengthened the squad whilst others haven't quite fitted into the Pressley/MacFarlane model.

"In January, we want to bring players in, hopefully make permanent some of the players we have on loan and, also extend the loan of one or two already here. On top of that, we are also in talks with members of the squad whose contracts are up next summer with a view to keeping them here.

"We know recruitment is an area where we must continually improve and we have a network of scouts in plce now where we believe we can identify the best targets for the first team and also for academy and development levels.

"In League One, the approach to recruitment comes down to the 3A's - abilty, availability and affordability. Gettng the balance right between those three can be an art as it is a science and the work we do in January in getting that correct will have a big bearing on the rest of the season.

"Of course, we also understand that our players will be targets for other clubs from higher leagues and that is another factor that we have to weigh up and consider as we plan for January.

"It's going to be another busy period of activity and I will, once again do everything I possibly can to support Steven and Neil in improving the squad."

The quote there from Waggot insinuates the budget for the playing squad was lower in the assumption that we would be playing in Northampton over the Ricoh. Surely there should be no difference?

Did SISU not give guarantees to the Football League that they would cover all losses accrued as a function of the move? Whereas it appears we've taken a path of selling best players, cutting the contracts of the highest earners, and having a lower budget for the balance. Is that in line with our promises to the Football League?

Like the FL have ever given a fuck about anything we went through, all they was bothered about was us one day playing back in the Coventry area, the rest was for SISU to do as they please, and us fans allow it.

Don't argue with that at all. I'm just highlighting its yet another example of one thing being promised, and another being delivered.

I wonder what these 'losses' were SISU promised to underwrite? Squad expenditure is the largest element of the operation of any football club. In fact, its the vast majority. Surely you can't exclude that?

I'm sure there'll be some ready to defend their claims and say it was all a misunderstanding

Be honest now guys! Did any of you really think other than getting rid of higher paid players to bring in even worse s**t. Was ever going to happen? I've said it time and time again...sell one player on (For arguments sake) £3k pw. and bring in 2 at £1k pw. Saving £1k pw. This is all they've ever done since they've been here. SISU don't care the 2 players they bring in are crap compared to the one being sold on(And that is saying something)

Wasn't saying anything about ability, just a player who hasn't played.

In SP's reign the transfers have been chaaotic far too many players often of inadequate ability but not sure how much of the blame is SP's and how much is Waggot's - that's not aimed as a defence of SP but if affordability is the key constraint which I believe it is then SW has a greater share of the blame but we don't know how much say SP ultimately had.

SP has been here for 3 transfer windows and only has 3 permanent signings that he has been happy with JOB Reeda & Webster
5 of this seasons permanent signings have been "bombed out" already Swanson & Jackson are were squad players Tudgay Miller & Pugh - utter wastes of the squad budgets
8 loanees so far this season, 8 players that's far too many especially when you are limited to the number of loanees in a matchday squad
Jan - April 2014 we had the pleasure of Prutton Anton Robinson Ecclestone & the Fonz - players no longer wanted by their current clubs playing / turning out for CCFC both Prutton & Robinson have failed to find a club since
Slager & Manset - no further discussion required

Now the real examples of our incompetence and lack of any meaningful strategy
Rory Donnolly - didn't want to play for us and never did
Chuba - preferred youth team than CCFC

We need some big inexpensive lumps who know how to win games at League 1 level. What we'll get if anything is a few lightweight kids that parent clubs want to give some game time to and maybe a couple of distinctly average 'Sweaty socks' to help SP feel at home !

no transfer budget huh, what about our esteemed owners relinquishing some of the £1.8m that they charge the club as a management fee, after all 1.8 x 7 = £12.6m, a tidy sum,
& Mr. Fisher said at a forum that he wouldn't be paid unless did a good job ???????

so a management charge has been levied against the club for 7 years, & we have to be grateful to the likes of Clouting, Igwe, Dulieu, Brody, Fisher, Waggot, etc., for their custody of OUR club,
are we supposed to accept the continued sale of players, downgrading of league position, and continued lack of communication to fans ?
if in a business, an owner hires a manager to do a job, then strips him of assets to do that job, is that right ?
i am of the opinion that the phrase 'speculate to accumulate' simply does not exist in our owners minds
