In the interests of fairness, I wouldn't necessarily blame the loss of the car industry on the council. That was Tony Benn.

I 100% agree.

The personal attacks for posting about how badly the Labour Council have let the City down are a bit off. I love Coventry, hate what's happened to the City and the Club.

I resigned my Labour membership in large part for what they have done to both. That and Miliband's attacks on the unions and on welfare. And today I saw Tony Blair concerned that Miliband is too left-wing, you couldn't make it up!

Maybe Philosorapter could explain how fox hunting Farage is any more a man of the people than Cameron or Miliband? Pointing to Brussels and shouting 'boo' at Johnny Foreigner will not do people in Coventry any good.

That's a quote directly from George Galloway!

No one is shouting boo at Johnny Foreigner. We need immigration, NHS and others would not survive without.

Some people want open door, some want Aussie style policies.

The EU isn't working - it's costing us £55m per day. If we came out out deficit situation would change instantly for the better and we could trade equally with the Commonwealth (India, Canda, Kenya). Hardly booing Johnny Foreigner.

Many confuse EU and EEA. EU is Laws and Regulation, EEA is to do with free trade. Stay in EEA (like Norway) out of EU (like Norway).

I could go on about the economics but cannot be bothered - look it all up on Google, Britain will be financially better off out if the EU according to most (but not all) independent credible sources.

Don't know about Fox-Hunting other than I don't personally agree with animal cruelty.

Cameron is false, Miliband is a millionaire socialist and Farage gets hammered every day in the press.

You did ask.

One of the great paradoxes is Miliband will kill the Labour Party off by being the next PM

As things stand at the minute the most likely outcome is another hung parliament with Labour as the biggest party. The Liberals will be wiped out, leaving Labour having to do a deal with the SNP.

That will not go down well in England & Wales, Miliband will have no real authority, and is already disliked before he has even got in. Added in with the fact difficult decisions on the economy still need to be made, that is a situation that could destroy a political party.

I quote Galloway because his views on it are right in my opinion. He made analogous comments about the SNP during the independence referendum and I agreed with those too. Just have to look at Farage when he's caught a bit off guard and then the real xenophobe in him comes out. He doesn't oppose EU immigration because it benefits Britain to do so, he opposes it because he regards eastern Europeans as 2nd class people who shouldn't be here. Note I agree the deal we get from the EU does deserve to be scrutinised, I have no objection to that. But take EU policy out of it and you have a party that sits to the right of the Tories and I just can't vote for that.

Farage supports fox hunting, Cameron supports the destruction of the public sector and Miliband supports whatever will get him the most votes. The thread has derailed so should be moved into Off Topic.

Let's leave the politics there

I still think it commercially and community minded to build a new stadium for CCFC in Holbrooks.

I think it will pay for itself and will be another asset for the City.

If the Council and CCFC have any sense they will sort it.

. Look up Clive Betts on Wikipedia.

Sorry to take the post off topic, but commiserations Philosopher if Clive Betts is your local MP.

I lived in Sheffield when he was Council Leader and the total shmables he ran, and the debt he saddled on the City was incredible. An absoloute clusterf*ck, he was such a fist of a Council Leader, he would get on well with a lot at Coventry Council.

(I have no political leaning they are all tossers)

The only good thing about Democracy are the intrinsic values it upholds which are Liberty and Equality.

Just a shame the political parties dont adhere to the same values.

When I heard Ann Lucas say that this was Democracy in action when it came, I believe, to the sale of the Ricoh, I pissed myself laughing.

She is someone who obviously doesn't understand what Democracy is.

I am not a UKIP supporter, but I get so angry when the "racist" card gets thrown at them just to try and stifle debate.

Normally if you ask one of these hysterical lefties what policies of UKIP's are racist they cant answer you and it takes the wind out of their sails.

Oh thought you would be a soft on UKIP type. You want evidence Bigfatronsatosser?

1.Its best mates with racist and far right parties in Europe - eg the Neo Nazi Northern League
2. It attracts racists - Gerard Batten, Geoffrey Bloom ,Lampett etc
3. It stirs up racial hatred in white working class areas "threatened" by immigration - classic NF/BNP tactic
4.They are xenophobes and Islamophobes who want to "tackle Islam"

Of course for people like you they are merely "addressing peoples concerns" FUCK OFF

Its ironic lecturing people on apparent blinkered views whilst trying to force your opinion down their throat.

You lose all semblence of arguement whilst being verbally abusive. I know I have made that mistake in the past on occasion.

1. Get the UK out of europe
2. close the border/send them back

If they HAVE any more policy I would love to here it because the 2 above are all they ever talk about.

Hence the title.

Half (or at least some of) the problem is the Labour Council. New Council, clean slate, fresh ideas - investment etc.

Labour Councils in Coventry have watched over:

Cathedral Lanes
The loss of the Car Industry
Stagnation of the canal basin development
No train station to Ricoh (when it was needed)
Now we have the sports centre debacles
So many other things

Personally I don't see why people on Coventry keep voting Labour, it's madness.

I agree 100% I find it hard to believe a party that fanned the flames of political correctness, did things that were detrimental to community cohesion and made so many appalling decisions still get votes!! All I can say is people must not read much belyond the headlines.

Labour are superb at passing the buck and slagging off other peoples policies. A funny recent example was Trisrum Hunt on question time who stated how bad the government were doing as we owed lots more to Europe. What he forgot to mention until it was pointed out to him by a comedian on the panel, is we only owe more because our economy is preforming better than expected!!

As for CCFC I hope SISU give Ann Lucas the good shoeing in court she deserves Ann has sold this clubs sporting crown jewels (Ricoh) down the river to a totally money orientated capitalist franchise. Lets not forget this was a lady who claimed to the national press she had been watching |CCFC for 50 years!!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...gn-Marlon-King-sparks-protest-female-fan.html really Ann? IF you loved the club would she have created a sporting rival on the doorstep of her "beloved" sky blues??
Or is this just more grandstanding and cynical opportunism from Lucas and her political party to look good and we were just a vehicle to ride on to get her there?

For whatever reason, UKIP in Coventry are second favourites at the bookies (ODDSCHECKER) (ahead of Libdems, ahead of Conservatives, ahead of Greens) for the next General Election - hence the comment only alternative to Labour.

I personally dislike Labour - you personally dislike UKIP.

I dislike racism, my Dad from India and all that.

I used to agree about UKIP - I had heard that UKIP are racist - somebody told me so I believed them. But then I thought I would look, because being prejudiced means "pre-judging" without finding out.

From the BBC today. Fairly left-wing biased but nonetheless:

http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-29642613

At the moment, Labour supports a policy of European Immigration over anyone else. Doctors from India must apply to get in, anyone from Europe is free to do so no matter their background or criminal record. UKIP want an Aussie/US/Canadian style system. Is that racist?

Immigrants are VITAL, but we need to be fair to everyone no matter their colour or background. At the moment, the system is - factually - EU open, rest of the world closed / screened.

Racist?

Carry on with having a pop chaps - don't care, really don't.

in fairness UKIP have suffered with their own vetting procedure to find suitable candidates for the party....let alone to be trusted with vetting who should come into the country. Sounds a bit elitist to me.

True, UKIP have attracted more than their fair share of unsuitable people and when they do the press go to town.

UKIP find it hard to find people who can stand being yelled "Racist!!!" "Fascist!!!" at by the uninformed / over opinionated.

The harsh, inevitable truth is that you either have:-

1)A total open door, open border, open to all, immigration policy.
2)A selective policy based on Origin (I.e. open to EU, selective outside)
3)A selective policy based on the Aussie / Canadian / US model

2) exists at present. Is that fair to those outside of the EU?

It should be trained border officials that vet who comes in, not politicians. Politicians should exercise the will of The People who vote for them - not promise one thing and fail to deliver.

I agree with the Labour hypocrite mantra - so very evident even today.

CCFC had originally invested in the Ricoh and got a raw deal in the end - no question.

SISU brought a lot their own problems on themselves by trying to bully the Council and ACL. It's backfired.

SISU will struggle in Court, they are taking on the Council, and by extension the Establishment - the Government.

That's pretty much the current situation in a nutshell

There is still a Massive Opportunity out there, it may need a change of Council, may need a change of owner, may need both, may need a change of philosophy on both sides.

A football stadium near a Rugby Stadium is not such a lunatic plan.

It is a lunatic plan when you consider Wasps can play in the existing stadium on Sunday and CCFC on Saturday. Why spend 30 million on a new stadium for a L1 team who will likely be in L2 next season.

Geoffrey Robinson, labour MP let SISU in thinking he could somehow get his money back (how he earned that money is worth research).

[/QUOTEIam not sticking up for Geoffrey Robinson, far from it, but I think you will find he was against SISU's involvement from the outset and tried to bring someone else to the table, don't know who they were or whether they would have been a better bet than SISU and would probably have suited Robinson better, but to reiterate to my knowledge Geoffrey Robnson didn't want SISU

That is of course where it all falls apart.

Who is it that has this dosh anyway.

In terms if money it is very possible.

The Council "loaned" ACL about £15m to pay if the bank loan and have now got it back. They (Council) originally stated that the Loan was on Commercial Terms since they would get a better return on the money and be able to secure a Community Asset.

So, it may be suggested that the Council have £15m sat in the bank (or available to them credit wise) that they could invest in an infrastructure building project.

Rightly or wrongly, Labour's economic ethos is a partial Keynesian policy of invest in infrastructure (by borrowing if necessary) rather than the (Tory) policy of spending cuts. By investing in public infrastructure the theory is job creation, reduced unemployment (and therefore less cost of benefits) and the ripple effect of personal spending thereon in which creates tax revenue.

SISU would love to be able to get their hands on a bricks and mortar asset that creates revenue. A finished stadium, like a house in many ways, is valued often at more than it's build cost upon completion. SISU could do a revaluation provision on their balance sheet to plug the hole they now have.

I don't think any of the above points are particularly disputed?

Costings wise,

They could (SISU) easily raise £15m on the money markets (add to the council loan and any possible grants) - they are a hedge find, CCFC would be seen as the revenue provider to service the debt cost (say 3.5pc pa I reckon SISU could pull the money for, council would need to cover same, so 3.5pc of 30m is about £1m per year in cost of loan). CCFC income should settle at about £6m at this level.

Cost, £1m per year in interest (dead money)

At present the club claim to be losing about £1m per year in rent and food and bev, naming rights, advertising rev etc. that this balances out. This will be more with any success.

In terms of sense, SISU / CCFC have assets of about zero and liabilities (through the SISU murky structure) of about 40m

Building and owning a stadium actually improves the ratios and makes things stack up better financially.

Just my views, but obviously just a lunatic idea.
