Two questions. Who do we have to replace him that is better? Do you trust SP to bring in someone better?

To be fair not many of our other players have done much either.

Fair comment, that's why the vast majority of the squad are replaceable. fleck is no exception.

Fleck has been a disappointment in his 3 seasons, still think there is the potential for him to be a great player but his goals scoring is very poor.

We don't need him as such but there is no one better and can be brilliant on his day. Who would come in better?

Nah, he's pretty hopeless. Our new signings look fantastic in their Youtube videos but not so good on a pitch playing for us.

Of course we need him. Fleck is our only creative player. He has nt set the world alight this season but he is still our most consistant player. It seems some want him to be this seasons boo boy. Very short memories , think alot of the moans come from people who are nt actually going to the games.

2 assists this season, both against peterborough......very creative. He's no boo boy, that's reserved for Coventry born players - Thomas and Clarke. And yes, I go to games.

wasn't that when he played a more attacking role against p'boro when we were 2 down?

This season mostly he has played a holding midfield role. Last season he was one of our best players when he played a more creative role when we were scoring goals. I think SP this season told him to sit back which he is ineffective as.

Was superb saturday and has been playing a deeper defensive midfielder role this season sitting infront of the two centre backs offering protection, has not been given the freedom this season to go forward.

People on about his goal scoring is pathetic hes not in the team to score goals.

I think your spot on with the people who are moaning are ones who go to very few matches

I have always personally rated him, think this season he has had off moments but far better than others. Maybe I'm in the minority then.

Need him, No real surprise for me that he had his best game in a while playing alongside Thomas. Him and Thomas sitting deep allows us to play with the 3 forwards and also give JOB the license to push on. That being said, I dont think he has had a great season and has struggled since the Gillingham game, I do however believe thats down to the fact he has not not really had a consistent partner in the middle of the park all season, plus the fact he has played out wide on occasions.

I think he needs to play alongside a decent attacking midfielder. Flecks a defensive player, and should be used to link the defence and strikers. He does a lot of unnoticed work imo, highlighted by his lack of goals. He does need to work on his final ball though, and I'd like to see him taking free kicks more...

Yeah he did play more attacking in the second half vs peterborough.

He played the same role last season as he is this season, just 5 assists in the league last season isn't great given the amount of goals we scored. Difference is he had 4 players scoring for fun.

And I'm not saying he is rubbish, just that he is replaceable. I can't see him signing another contract so we're going to have to cope without him next season anyway...

In my opinion Fleck needs a tough guy next to him, the team needs a tough nut. He can play, he can create, he does put his foot in but he is not an out and out ball winner in a Shaun Derry mould, get someone like him and Fleck will play a lot better more consistently.

Can't believe there's even a doubt in whether we need him or not. It's a definite YES from me. I think the same thread was started 6 months ago except the name Fleck was replaced with Baker. Look how well that turned out............

Couldn't agree more.
Has had to adapt to a more defensive role which isn't easy, for me he is the only midfielder we've got who can 'spray' a pass and switch the play.

While I always say Thomas is awful, what is frustrating is that one minute he can switch the ball with a 60 yard pass to feet, the next minute he can't pass 5 yards and it goes out of play. I have seen him do some great cross field passes and defence splitting passes though to be fair.

I like Fleck but admit he's been very disappointed, especially this season. If he pulls his finger out, he could be a decent player. But is 3 years enough time to realise it's not going to happen here? I think so.

He does seem to perform better alongside Thomas, which is a shame a it would mean Thomas would have to play more if we kept Fleck on ;)

Our best player by a long way. His use of the ball is excellent - he isn't on the pitch to create or score goals, he's on the pitch to receive the ball from the defence and help the transition to attack. He's also very clever in closing people down. Both of last seasons purple patches were when Fleck and Thomas were on form.

Do we need him probably not, but I don't want to see him sold as none of the money will be re-invested in the side so may as well keep the body as I can't stand the idea of Finch running around aimlessly or Barton mincing around .

Thats what makes us Cov fans smarter than Bournemouth & Wolves scouts / managers, they went for Clarke & Wilson whereas we know the true genius lay in Fleck. Moussa and Baker have moved on also to higher level teams but why not Fleck. Don't rate him, at 23 can't be considered as unrealized potential. Too inconsistent and don't care how deep he plays should score more goals.

Well said, someone that can spot what the players actual role is and judging them on that rather than some Roy of the Rovers fantasy game plan.
