I am so tired of watching this man at CB for us. He is slow and makes so many mistakes, too compound the issue he is always blaming those around him for his own failings. How can SP justify staring him ahead of Willis is bemusing and frustrating to say the least.

Webster - capped 34 times..................thirty fucking four!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember when we used to sign centre halfs from Halesowen who were twice the player he is.

A million times better than Aaron Martin.

Did you see the 3rd goal, he fucked up twice for it!!

Do you mean when Webster was on his arse and his man scored?

The 3rd goal?

First Martin went to go for the ball and inexplicably changed his mind, letting it roll past him when he could easily have cut it out. Then he slides in as Allsopp was about to collect the ball and passes it straight to their player for a simple tap in. Just pathetic defending.

Webster is absolute dogshit. Retirement fodder. Pennington and Martin were also very poor. If I was Jordan Willis, I'd be very frustrated right now...

He was a bit of a donkey by top-flight standards when he first signed, but boy would I take an Andy Pearce right now!

Webster played how is always plays bloody shocking...god knows he must be giving elvis head in the shower to keep getting back in this team. Willis must feel terrible that this display is keeping him out

What happened to the pressing game.?
why change the whole team after last weeks win? 3 changes , players not knowing their job ,out of position!!!
Pressley got the tactics wrong from the start. No pace , their wingers/wing backs went past us like a knife through butter.
Then after we were 0-2 down he changes the formation by telling JOB to cover.Tooooo late.
we had no pace, no passion and no leader.
either get rid of Pressley or he should get get rid of all the shit around him, McFarlane ..the ex Nuneaton Scot and sorry Oggie but you are my hero but goalkeeping coach, Bob Wesson would do a better job.
if research was done on the opposition why were we so crap in the first half and chasing the game in the second..??.
Anger management here I come.

For all Webster fans

There are no "fans" just a reality check.

Webster as a league one defender was more capable than the useless immobile lump Konjik at premier league level. A dire defender, no positional ability, no ability to command premier league forwards. A basket case.

And yet.......

It is quite amusing that Webster gets scapegoated for a game we were comprehensively outplayed across the park, in particular midfield where they gave us a footballing lesson in the first half. Their 19 year old loanee swift and gladwin signed form non league Marlow (7-8 tier) took the piss out of JOB, fleck and Thomas in midfield.

Webster was SP's pet, if not for SP he would have been dropped a lot earlier, the Swindon game followed a competent defensive performance at Walsall where Webster didn't play. Swindon was chaos. As for Mo didn't play that often in the PL played most of his games in the championship, he had a cult status as opposed to Webster who had zero status, life isn't always fair but most Cov fans are pleased to see the back of Webster.

konjik was crap at championship level. Cult status just shows fans know fuck all about football - well "fans" like you though I gather you are picking and choosing going forward.

Greg Downes was a cult hero but clearly a very poor footballer. Webster was also a very poor footballer but disliked by a lot of fans not sure what that means but in the Downes era we were quite sucessful with Webster lowest point for decades fans less tolerant of incompetence. Mo won player of the year in 2003 for his effort levels and committment fans liked him but not Webster, doesn't get away from the fact 33 year old Andy webster is not good enough for league 1 and we will see where he ends up

Webster was average. very slow too which didn't help. Better than Aaron Martin though.

Wow...

At the point he was dropped we were a bottom 6 club, so clearly the majority of our regular players were less than average he would be part of that majority. Part of his inability is his lack of pace which will only get wose at his age.

I thought until just after Christmas 2013 he was pretty decent., but like the rest of the team bombed once Clarke left.

Certainly don't think he's any worse than Martin or Willis.

Martin was poor too.

To be fair to Willis, most of his crap games were when he was played at right back and think we all now agree that, that bloke is no right back.

Webster was a liability unfortunately and Martin too.

Yep. It was his pace that was his achiiles heel. If a player has a bit of pace about him and quick feet he can recover more easily from a mistake he's made. When Webster made mistakes, more often than not he couldn't rectify them.

I'm sure with a bit more agility about him he wouldn't be a bad player, but when you are that slow and lack the necessary distribution skills, well, then you're asking for trouble.

Agree - cult hero's in sport essentially mean a well-liked player who isn't particularly fantastic at their day job, but because they endear themselves to fans their ability is masked to an extent. So yes, Greg Downes, Mo Konjic, Reda Johnson to name a few (outside football, think someone like Monty Panesar). Not to be confused with the talisman - see D. Wise, S. Dann (and outside football again, A. Flintoff).

Webster is not an terrible player but just has no mobility or desire at this stage of his career to scrap in L1.. Not worth wages as a squad player but not bothered if he hangs around to help the young kids in passing on his knowledge.. Also makes me smile when peoples view on any pro player, is they are shit,, any pro will be the best player you have played with or against..

Agreed.

But isn't Sam Ricketts the same age?

I think people are dining out on Ricketts of a few years back.......on later appearances I think he is worse than Webster on a par at best
will probably want good wages too!

If Webster trains hard and lowers wage demands TM may give him a chance, he may not, more impressive attitude than many people's
beloved Reda I hasten to add.......

I believe his attitude and dedication is by far better than Reda but I don't think he is good enough.

I do not think Webster is a great player but he is a lot better than some give him credit for.
I have seen him in a Cov shirt have some very solid performances where he has been a rock for us.

He may have got too comfortable under SP but who knows if he has a full pre-season with us impresses TM
and comes back hungry there may still be a worthy addition to the squad,

You do not get to Scottish international status with numerous caps without having something about you!

Sensible assessment as always - one of the most knowledgable posters on the playing side.
