The 21-year old striker joins the Sky Blues until the end of the 2014/15 League One season and bolster's Steven Pressley's attack...
Coventry City have signed Middlesbrough striker Luke Williams on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season.

Williams joins the Sky Blues for the rest of the 2014/15 season campaign and will bolster Steven Pressley's attacking options.

The 21-year old came through the ranks at the Riverside and has already made 34 appearances, scoring two goals, for his hometown club.

Williams enjoyed a loan spell with Hartlepool United last season and Scunthorpe United this season, scoring two goals in six appearances at Glanford Park.

City boss Steven Pressley said: "We're delighted to welcome Luke to the club and he will give another valuable option going forward.

"As I've said in recent weeks, I want to see my side score more goals and I'm sure by bringing Luke in until the end of the season, it will help us achieve that aim.

"He is another young and hungry player that will bring good energy to the squad."

What is the problem with Pressley everyone knows we need a ball player in midfield. You can have as many strikers as you like but if theirs no supply they may as well be defenders.

Sky Blues sign Luke Williams from Boro
This is a really exciting signing for the Sky Blues!
Luke Williams joins on loan from Middlesbrough, he's a 21-year-old attacking midfielder.
Williams was previously on loan with Scunthorpe and he really impressed with the Iron before returning to Boro due to injury.
Despite the club calling him a striker, he is a midfielder.

although his WIKI and soccer base say he's a striker.

Not sure who to believe.

CET adamant he's a midfielder, but CCFC, Wiki, Soccerbase saying forward.....

Hi all, Boro fan here, I was curious to see Coventry fans' reaction to Luke Williams joining you and I thought while I was here I'd clarify his position for you. While calling him a striker isn't entirely wrong, he's more of an attacking midfielder, and could also play on the wings. He definitely is not an out and out striker, and hopefully he does the business for you lot, he's always had a lot of potential but has really struggled to fulfill it and is at a sort of make or break stage in his Boro career, as at 21 is isn't a youth player anymore, and really needs to step up to the mark sooner rather than later

Are they even aware what they've signed? Which one is relying on Wiki? CCFC or CET? ;)

For a man who played Jordan Clarke up top, I don't think he cares what position he 'specialises' in :)

Good stuff, we were short on strikers :sarcasm:

I have no idea if the players we sign these days are any good or not. Long gone are the days when we signed players I'd heard of.

Just spoke to my mate who is a Scunny fan as he had a spell with them earlier in his career and his exact words were: "He's a cracking player, too good for league one and was gutted when he seen we've signed him on loan" sounds promising lets give the lad a chance cant be any worse than the shower we have present!

I'm not bemoaning the fact we haven't bought a goalkeeper or central midfielder in but I do find it rather funny that people complain about how few goals our strikers have scored and how shit they are.

Only for them to also complain when we bring in new strikers.

But surely watching us play it is obvious we would score more goals with a better midfield and more chances created.

Can't help but feel that Presseley's naive response to needing more goals is just to sign as many strikers as possible. Of course he will then put our best striker on the wing and play 4-5-1.
He does not seem to grasp that to score goals you first have to create chances, and it is the midfield that first puts that in motion.

I think he's realised it to an extent, he's gone out and signed Turgott, Odelusi and Williams. None are out and out strikers but are attacking midfielders/wingers. Just a shame he didn't put a higher priority on a centre midfielder imo

2 goals in 32 starts did I read at the beginning of this thread. Oh dear!

His strike rate on loan and at youth international levels is about 2 Or 3 every 6 games. Most his Boro appearances have been off the bench. Why not give him a chance.

Because we never do. Easier to slay someone off before seeing him play.

Besides, I read he was an attacking midfielder who can play up front rather than an out and out striker. Maybe we will move to a diamond type formation with Fleck sitting and Williams behind the strikers. Then maybe tough away games can play 2 holding and 1 up front without leaving no attacking threat.

I think you might be right about the diamond. Or drop him just behind the main striker. There seems a few options he could go with, although most of our fans only accept 4-4-2 as a valid formation. I believe you need various formations even at this level.

hope he does play in hole behind striker, hopefully stop the central figure being so isolated and also alot of the attackingp lay can be initiated from this position

You made sense until the last comment, then I decided you needed to take your medication again, a great addition to the squad though, a very talented young player.

First thoughts as with all these incomings is that I don't know anything about them. I'd honestly never heard of any of them but I guess they'll also be gone by the time you get to know what they can offer ! Players out, players in, clutching at straws springs to mind and giving game time to other clubs players so they can assess them for their future plans !! Hope it works but have to be doubtful !

Rather young energetic players looking to establish themselves in the game rather than has been's looking for a pay packet.

Just because not heard of them, does not mean they are not any good, Luke Williams is a very very clever signing btw.
