Nouble is at his best when he drops turns and runs at players, he's only ever looked good with a partner who runs in behind (like jackson or Samuel) as that pushes the back 4 deeper creating more space for him. I wouldn't play him as a number 9 purely for football long reasons, I've never seen williams play but it would be a toss up between Nouble / williams in that deeper role, with Samuel leading the line, pushing the back 4 back and creating more space for our midfield.

ok,found the LOLing rude but i can accept it wa sbanter

never used the R word though, please dont accuse me of such things.

i havnt seen samuel play and wont till scunthorpe game next tuesday so maybe thats why i put nouble in. to be honest be it strength or pace in the middle its exciting.

i just like the idea of willis and reda at fullback because they are competent there,can attack a little bit but are cbs at heart which helps with the defending.

with so much pace upfront now we can perhaps afford to play big men at FB

GK - Charles-Cook (Boy doesn't lack in confidence and did very well at Nuneaton earlier in the season).

RB - Phillips (Tidy on the ball, strong in the tackle and gets up and down well. Eye for goal to).

CB - Martin (Have a lot of time for Martin, composed in possession but can also mix it up like every strong centre half should. Like many (basically every player) would flourish under a decent manager).

CB - Johnson (Is a natural leader of men and for me is more suited to CB than LB as he offers nothing going forward down the left side. Just needs to stay fit).

LB - Haynes (Although he isn't the messiah as many thought early in the season, he is still a decent young player, who currently looks bereft of confidence).

DM - Fleck (Everyone hates him at the moment, but he has more ability than the rest of our midfielders combined despite rarely showing it this season. If you sit him in front of the back four and give him options in front to utilise his passing range, he could be a revelation there. Loves a tackle to which would help him in that role).

RM - Jim O'Brien (Committed and accomplished footballer, need I say anymore).

LM - Odelusi/Turgott (Both have pace and trickery, ideal wide men in the division).

CAM - Luke Williams (Like all Boro youth products a very good ball player, with an eye for a pass if you listen to Boro and Scunny fans. The creativity we need).

ST - Nouble (So much potential if he can be arsed to work).

ST - Samuel (Looks a decent player and at this level thats good enough for 20 a season).

4-1-3-2 when attacking and 4-1-2-1-2 when defending.

Obviously Pressley needs to be gone before anything of this could potentially come to fruition.

As I've never seen williams or turgott play, I can only assume they are better than we have, with two pace widemen we can probably play a 433 variant,

The fact that very few (if any) of us have seen some of the new signings play, yet they are in the majority of people's starting XI's says alout about our current squad.

Anyway, if I was in the hot seat I would go with:

Jones

Phillips Martin Pennington Haynes

JOB Barton

Odelusi Williams Turgott

Samuels

Debatable Selections:

Pennington > Willis - not much in that at all, easily interchangeable. Pennington nudges it due to his enhanced composure.
Haynes > Reda - again, quite a tough one, however Reda doesn't offer enough going forwards, and as much as he is seemingly a fans favourite with many, is a liability. Both in terms of his injury record and positioning, especially when at CB as part of a two. Haynes isn't a world beater but in a positive attacking team would improve.
Barton > Fleck - would love to accommodate both but a CM of those two would be too weak for League One. Not much between the two in terms of both ability and potential, but neither are performing anywhere near the heights they should be. Barton edges it on current form, predominantly because he retains possession. Fans may get annoyed at his 'short backwards/sideways passes' but he keeps the ball, which is pretty essential. With a pacey attacking four in front of them, Barton and/or Fleck should flourish.
Turgott > Nouble - put my arguments forward for why I am not as big a fan of Nouble as the world seems to be numerous times, it mainly consists of temprement, attitude and laziness.

Nice to hear someone talk a bit of sense RE Barton. He's one of the few players in our team with a 'football' brain. Everyone loves the excitement of players who will run at people but at the same time need players who can control a game and slow it down when necessary. Barton gets a tough time on this forum yet if he was playing in a side that was semi decent in possession with actual ability he'd be a pivotal player at this level. Always takes the ball in tight spaces and gives to someone in space. Whilst he's clearly a long long long way off the level of someone like Sergio busquets he could play a similarly pivotal role in a team of where we currently are and I'm sure he'll leave start playing well and people on here will start singing his praises. The midfields/whole teams issue is we have no style of play and we don't have players good in possession, great passers or fast skilful players (possibly do after the loans) so we're continually imbalanced and all our players flaws become evident, something Pressley can't seem to see. Yes we have no money but if he was getting a kind of style together and getting players to suit a specific style it wouldn't be so depressing, instead we get a mixture of players in a mixture of formations that is continually dross

Bartons done quite well when he's played this season, I don't really think he has much of a future here long term but it was definitely harsh on him being dropped.
