Nice pay day for him. But none of us know what goes clauses go into these contracts do we? They could be performance and win related, with a set target of points each season to achieve, so if it looks mathematically that those targets won't be reached, you've breached the contract and get sacked.... maybe? Seems legit.

From a supporters point of view our main gripe for the past few years has been SISU. The increasing calls of "we want SISU out" from the home supporters have, to a large degree, helped Pressley dodge the bullet as far as the supporters are concerned. I have heard not one chant of Pressley out to date , only last night (Scunthorpe) were the first mass chant of any nature against S.P., when O'Brien was substituted.

I think once the supporters en mass (all 6,000 as it will soon be ) call for Pressley to go, as WILL happen if the next 2 games bring no wins, the owners may finally run out of patience.

I don't know; Villa fans have been calling for this for some time now. Not surprised it's happened but it's been a long time coming!

odd isn't it him being under pressure by fans, owners seem adamant to keep hold of him, give him a new contract this season. Sounds all too familiar!

maybe Randy is one of SISU's secret investors!

But while we all keep going on about asking for Pressleys head we are not putting pressure on the real culprits, our owners.
They will keep SP for as long as possible as it means less hassle from supporters asking them to leave.

I blame SISU for most of our problems, but until now there has not been any reason to consider Pressley's position. Now there is. They have to make a big decision based on the financial implications of relegation against gambling in the Manager market.

From the B'ham Mail (before the sacking):

Aston Villa is a proud and noble name in English football.

It is an historic club at the heart of our community, a founding father of the beautiful game.

But this great club is now on its knees and the Holte End is hurting - and we can no longer stand by and watch that happen.

Today the Birmingham Mail makes one simple, stark request to the Aston Villa board: sack the manager.

Paul Lambert is not the man to save this club from relegation and the long-term damage that disaster will bring.

We do not say this lightly, nor do we take any pleasure in saying that Lambert should go.

The Birmingham Mail has been as patient as many of the claret and blue fans, standing by and hoping things will improve.

Despite the results, despite the performances.

But time is now up.

No progress has been made under Lambert. In fact, this once mighty club is now staring relegation in the face.

A relegation that would cost the club a lucrative share of the new £2 billion Sky and BT television deal.

Dropping down a division would be a disaster financially, and one from which Villa may never recover.

As custodian of the club, Randy Lerner must ensure it doesn’t happen.

Lambert has presided over just two Premier League victories in 20 matches since agreeing a bumper new four-year deal in mid-September.

The poor, and too often dull, performances mean the team is last on Match Of The Day nearly every week - and at this rate destined for an even later Saturday night slot on the Football League show next season.

That’s why Villa must act now - before it’s too late.

Awful football, declining attendances, and post-match excuses that beggar belief.

Aston Villa should not be aiming to survive - they should be aiming to strive, to compete in the higher reaches of the league.

Long-ball football has been replaced by an equally unsuccessful possession-based style of play.

Now the manager says his side must play ugly football to get themselves clear of relegation - and they will, he says.

We don’t believe Lambert anymore. He is out of ideas, there is nothing left for him to say to his players that he hasn’t said already.

We respect his integrity and loyalty, but the fans don’t want him.

The fans deserve better.

Enough is enough.

Amazing how that reads when you swap 'Lambert' for SP and 'Aston Villa' for CCFC.

Yes, I wonder if the CT would print an article that strong? And weather CWR would follow suit?

On that, it will be interesting to hear what Stuart, Clive, Geoff etc say should he eventually gets the bullet. Probably will be allowed off the fence for a change.

It would be nice to have a bit more support from our local media. If the Mail can do it for the Villa fans why can't the Telegraph do it for us?

Me too but this isn't about Villa as a club it's about how a crap manager has been dealt with by the media and that perhaps the pressure applied by them that has been listened to by the club.

So nothing to do with Lerner having the club up for sale thinking shit with the new Sky deal and the fact the club will lose over 90m if relegated, I might never find a buyer for this club if it drops down to the championship and would have to sell at a fraction of the price if I did find a buyer?

But seriously, why the fuck are we discussing them bunch of cunts, who gives a toss what happens there or what the media do about them.
